I don't think Copper is kidding. :)

I'm pretty sure they do have a TOGA Night each cruise. :D

Kinda have to agree with S7S as far as pax on the open decks on Costa's ships. Taken from a departing Maasdam @ St. John's, Antigua of Costa Luminosa, 2 different times, and from Bridgetown, Barbados of Costa Mediterranea

Costa caters to a different market with different cultures. years ago a RCCL ship was grounded to keep from sinking (I believe late 1990s). The ship is still sailing.

The disaster was caused by human error, no fault of the ship.

CCL has taken the position not to discount the fares, and are willing to wait for a rebound in bookings.

I don't think that they're going anywhere. Many have already stated that they're an Italian first line and Europe is being hit crazily hard with the economic downturn now. I would bet any problems with bookings are due to that as much as their recent float problems.

I wouldn't expect them to go anywhere.

I believe that anticipating the end of Costa as a brand as a result of the disaster with CONCORDIA and incident with ALLEGRA is extreme.

White Star Line remained in business for 20+ years after the loss of TITANIC, Louis Cruises is highly successful in Europe after losing SEA DIAMOND off Santorini a couple of years ago.

Also, if in fact Costa were to divest some tonnage, I don't see even their "Vista" derived ships being absorbed by HAL, far too different internally.

The only interesting possibility could be COSTA VOYAGER as a partner or replacement for PRINSENDAM. Look up this ship and see what you think.

Excellent! Thanks for posting!

Btw, did you know Voyager has a sister?

Wow...I'm looking at this photo of the rear of Luminosa...I believe if you painted it blue you would have something looking very similar to Eurodam. I don't know what the inside is like, but wouldn't be too difficult on the outside. ;) ;)

as a former costa cruiser:

toga nights are only on carib. sailings. not in europe or anywhere else

smoking policies are quite restrictive now. pretty much like hal, except smoking in the cabins is allowed (though discouraged). one lounge has a smoking area and then, of course, the casino.

elevators - yes, this is funny. elevators are not common in europe, so it is fun to watch people try to figure it out.

I hate to disillusion you but the smoking policies are still very liberal. The only places where smoking is banned are in the dining rooms and the theatre. All bars and lounges had smoking areas - it was great:D

that was not my experience as of 2011. wish it were true, though.

White Star Line remained in business for 20+ years after the loss of TITANIC...

White Star's most profitable year was 1913 - So many people booked crossings aboard Olympic to get a feel for what Titanic had been like...

...White Star really only merged w/ Cunard due to the Depression - among the terms from the British Government to subsidize the completion of the Queen Mary for Cunard.

WOW, I've only been on one Costa ship, the Mediterranea, and actually loved it. Gotta say, we were rather bored with HAL :o and knowing the menus, activities, yada yada yada daily.

So, we decided to branch out and tried a few other lines, including Costa with a low priced transatlantic so we could rent a car and travel around Italy for a bit before returning to the US. It was actually quite fun for us. As DH is of Sicilian descent and I'm willing to eat almost anything, we loved the food.

Italian lessons were a hoot. Trivia in five language was even more interesting. There were only 300 of us with English as a first language and some of those were actually transplants who preferred to speak in their native tongue - anybody speak the language of Montenegro here? :)

All that said, we had a lovely cabin, loved the entertainment which is so totally different that any US oriented line. We had a great time.

So, the ship was lovely, very colorful - a real Venice theme to it, with lots of glass (Murano or not) everywhere. There's probably not an empty inch of wall space anywhere in the public areas of the ship. And we loved it for its' differences.

So, I would love to see what HAL might do with one of these ships to bring it into line with HAL's MUCH more sedate decor. DH had also done a cruise on the Atlantica prior meeting up (thanks to HAL Prinsendam). :D

Anyway, it could be a really interesting transition. And yes, we did participate in Toga night. You have to see to believe.......fond memories, I must say........

to redecorate the interiors of the ships to go with the flow of HAL decor, if our cruise on the Atlantica several years ago is any indication of all the current Costa ships.

I agree. We were on the Magica several years ago. TACKY.
