tobymonster Posted April 16, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2012 Sorry if I should know how to find this information, but I'm wondering who the captain and cruise director are for Silhouette right now? (and if they're staying on - we'll be boarding May 5 in Rome). And who is at Molecular Bar? Kelby was there on Solstice on our last cruise and we loved him! Also hoping that Beliz is still in Blu when we're there! Also, I can't remember from our last cruise... I know we tipped some folks in cash on the last night/day, but I can't remember if we brought a bunch of cash with us, or if there is an ATM on the ship so we don't have to carry so much. Gonzo70 Posted April 16, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2012 There is an ATM, but it charges a $6 per transaction fee (plus any additional fees your bank charges). You may get cash against your on board account at the casino or guest relations for a 5% fee as another option. Better to just bring the cash with you (or traveler checks, wish can be cashed at guest relations for no charge) to avoid paying any fees.

I just got off the Silhouette on April 10th. The Captain was Demitris Kafitzis (sp) and the Cruise Director was Paul Baya. I am not sure of the name of the mixologist at the Molecular Bar. tobymonster Posted April 16, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted April 16, 2012 Thank you for the info! I'll have to see about getting travelers checks... although I don't mind paying the $6 fee as long as we're only planning to use it once. Our bank refunds atm fees up to a certain amount per month. schmidlapp Posted April 17, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2012 We'll be on the same cruise except we plan on boarding the next day in Naples. As far as $ for tipping since the ship will be in Europe for the summer, the staff won't turn away Euros and they are readily avaialable at "bankomats" in all ports. Our bank charges a very minimal fee so thats the way we will get cash... We leave next Friday and will be touring for a week prior, see you on the ship, my favorite is the Sunset Bar.
cruzeluver Posted April 17, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 17, 2012 If Captain Kafitzis i still the master you are in for a treat! Do not miss his noon announcements, talks or any other opportunity to interact with him. He is warm, engaging and funnier than most comedians. I am still laughing about a comment in one of his noon announcements when he informed the passengers he hopes he is able to find St. Thomas!:p

The tipping is no longer cash as the default. They will add the tips daily for all personnel who will normally be tipped.
miched Posted April 17, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 17, 2012 When you go to the Captain's Party and he and the staff shake your hand are they expecting a tip?
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted April 18, 2012 #9 Share Posted April 18, 2012 When you go to the Captain's Party and he and the staff shake your hand are they expecting a tip? I take it this is a facetious comment. One does not tip the officers. They shake hands with you because they are polite.

Thanks, I know, and we'll still do the automatic tipping that is included in our bill, but there are some folks who we build a relationship with and like to leave a little extra for. The auto-tips aren't really that much. Last time I think we gave envelopes with some cash and a thank you note to our waitress, asst waiter, sommelier, and the bartender at Molecular where we spent a good deal of time. And maybe the asst maitre d in Blu... DH has a random mushroom allergy, and they were really good about showing us the menu the night before to coordinate with DH to get him something mushroom-free. We appreciate good service and folks who go the extra mile, and like to acknowledge it.

That way they get to keep the cash.
