che5904 Posted March 18, 2013 Author #52 Share Posted March 18, 2013 I have another "D" for you: DDP - Dear Domestic Partner For those of us who really want to get married. But legally can't. Yet. womp womp. --Michael Thanks, thats probably one I wouldn't have thought of since it's legal here since sometime I believe the early 2000s. But thank you for the addition. che5904 Posted March 18, 2013 Author #53 Share Posted March 18, 2013 List is great. As others have said, some of them are obvious but others have been difficult to figure out. If we keep posting, the thread will stay in the New Posts section so will be seen more. Thanks for starting it.:) Thank you, I was very confused when I first started on forums, so I think this list is quite useful for newbies.
che5904 Posted March 18, 2013 Author #54 Share Posted March 18, 2013 One that I have seen mentioned a lot recently and I had to google because it stopped me was "smh" It has appeared all over the board lately and it is "shaking my head" I even asked my 13 year old ;) I knew all the rest of them. Great list! Thanks Michele, it's so funny when we have to rely on teens to keep us up to date on the latest.

(in the context of this thread below) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1953263 Muggle: In the fictional world of J. K. Rowling's book series Harry Potter, a muggle is a person who lacks any sort of magical ability and was not born into the magical world. Muggles also do not have any magical blood. M.o.M, well in my world it was the one who changed my dirty diapers as a baby. But in this particular case, I really have no idea. If you want my guess it would probably be referring to the "M"uggles and "M"oderators. I'm seriously surprised that thread has not been pulled LOL BTW I'd never tell anyone to "look it up". It used to drive me crazy in school when I would ask how to spell something and a teacher would tell me just look it up. Like, I'd need to know how to spell it to look it up. It's how HP fans seem to shorten the name (I googled it when writing that post) of "Ministry of Magic" which (according to Wikipedia) is the government of the Magical community of Britain in JKR's works. Sorry if that acronym caused some kind of distress. :D EDIT: The thread seemed to cause distress at least to the moderators because the whole thread is now gone. Conspiracy, I say, conspiracy! :D :D Edited December 7, 2013 by Demonyte

But they rarely used his lingo. I'm surprised you didn't get your patties slapped. But maybe they had a sense of humor this morning, and just didn't want it to turn into a big thing. Thank you for posting Very glad people are finding it helpful. I've requested twice that they make a sticky out of it to make it easier access, especially to new CC fans. But I have never received an email back from them, answering my request. It's too bad because I know how much I struggled when I first started with CC to figure out what people were talking about. Now poor DH has to listen to my tails of CC in cruise acronym language :D "So and so (with a very strange CC name) said that he and his DW went to GSC on their cruise, its was a on B2B and they really had a good time". "They said it was best to get the DOD in a non-souvenir glass though". "They had originally book a GTY mini-suite but the upgrade fairy, phone them with an offer of PH". "At the M&G a few of them decided to have dinner that night together in the aft MDR. :D :D Edited December 8, 2013 by che5904

$hip$hape Posted December 15, 2013 #66 Share Posted December 15, 2013 I'm happy to see this thread for reference. Acronyms can be confusing. Thank you for posting found on the internet... Important thing to consider before using an acronym... If you're going to use acronyms in your writing, remember: The first time you use an acronym, the words should be written out with the short form placed in parentheses immediately after. This way, it's clear to the readers exactly what the letters mean. Thank You ! "TY"

However, since this is not a business letter, nor do many on these boards care if they make an impression on anyone else, I'm pretty sure proper writing etiquette flew out the window on this board. ;)

Will Sail For Food Posted January 5, 2014 #70 Share Posted January 5, 2014 Yay! I finally figured out what CAS means! I've seen that used so many times. Most acronyms were easy to figure. That one had left me stumped. It appears this thread isn't being updated any longer, which is too bad. New posters could benefit from having things like UBP defined, which doesn't appear in this list. I think the NCL acronyms were lost in the mess of generic web/text acronyms though. There are very few new ones but yes, there are a few. No I didn't bother updating the actual list because my requests for this list to become a sticky (which was my original intention when I started this thread) fell short. But you are welcome to copy my list and add what you wish to in a reply post, if you feel there are important ones missing. Sorry you felt NCL acronyms were lost in the "mess", I put them in alphabetical order for more ease of finding. Web/texting acronyms may be common acronyms to some but to others that don't use this technology and only visit NCL boards, they have all been found and used on this board since I have joined CC.
