Hard Bed and neglected in the MDR what to do?

We got back from the Triumph last Thursday and although we had a good cruise, there were elements that made us feel like we were in steerage.

So I was hoping some of you may have experienced the same and who did you complain to and what results you had?

1st-Room 1216 had a really hard bed. I thought it was just me, but my dh took a nap on my side and noted how hard it was. The DH said it didn't remember there always being a large gap between the beds. We pulled the sheets off the final morning and and saw where there was just a thin mattress cover that held the two twins together. I thought I had checked the set up on a previous cruise and saw that there was a pillow top like mattress cover that held the beds together?

If we would've reported, what could they have done?

2nd-In the MDR, we would receive our main course while the others around us were receiving their desserts. This happened every night regardless of what time or what order we arrived. Once, we were early and got there before any of the other tables assigned to our waitstaff and we still got our served last. It was close to 7:15 by the time we got our desserts.

We would get our menu, drinks and bread fine. But after that, we were at the mercy of the galley. Our runner would disappear for long periods of time and I could even see our head waiter looking anxious. Eventually when the runner returned to our area, we'd get our food.

You'd think they'd see us sitting there twiddling our thumbs, butter knife fighting, arranging our glasses like Easter Island statues hoping that someone would notice they were empty, and apologize for the delay, but not a word, explanation or apology was given.

I really felt that it was the low man on the totem pole causing the delay and didn't want to get the other two in trouble, but if we complained, we were likely to get bumped to Late Dining?

So what do you do?

For the bed you should have told your cabin steward and he would have done whatever he could to make you comfortable~ our bed on the Spirit was really hard so he got one of those egg crate pads and it made a world of difference!

As for the MDR ~ had that happen before~ we told the MD and it was shockingly fixed from then on~

Whenever there is an issue on board, go to the head person ie: room steward, MD or guest services if you don't know where to go~ and they will do whatever they can to make it right if they have the capability to!

I agree with Allie.

I also must add that Carnival's beds are being switched over to the hard ones. It sounds like you had one of the new, hard beds, and one of the older, comfy beds that Carnival has been well-known for. They are doing away with the comfy beds for the cheaper hard ones. Since mattresses are changed out somewhat often, they will all eventually be that way. So just be prepared to ask for that egg crate pad right away.

For dinner, I really wonder what we have done wrong now. Except for this last cruise, we're usually getting dessert around 7:30-7:40. I was starting to think that that was normal. But we still knew we were one of the last ones to get it. I guess I just have bad luck.

I've had the meal delivery problem. My table was late while the waiter catered to a table near us. He seemed to be there almost constantly delivering or changing "something". Meanwhile, the prepared meals for others sat on his table getting cold before delivery.

Now that I would complain about.

Will the room steward deliver desserts on time?:D

Hmmmm. Too early to be more specific answering as to OP questions.

Never understood the rush to get thru dinner especially if you have nice table mates.

Sounds like you need a daiquiri and move on

We always have early dinner and never receive our dessert untill after the song and dance routine, ( 7:20 or so ). Would have talked to steward about the bed, as i would not have made it the whole cruise being unable to sleep well.

I think the servers get used to taking care of the tables in a certain order. But when you said 7:15 for desert I was shocked... that is more then reasonable! We were the first ones served and done in our section on this last cruise every night and we still didn't finish until between 7:30 and 7:45... much ado about nothing there...

The mattress thing I noticed last May on the Liberty... It just wasn't as comfortable as I remember it. You are not the only one.

Me neither, you are on a cruise and you can't go nowhere anyways. But this is typical something american. The service in a restaurant in the states and europe is like day and night. In the states they go to eat and in europe they go for a night out.

Say something or leave a note when you first get to your cabin. I also Give a $20 then and have never had an issue with service to the cabin.

Last cruise they didnt know about an eggcrate.

So I asked for several blankets and folded them up and put them on top of mattress.

Slept much better.

MDR, same thing tell the MD and it will speed it up.

Hey Stu, my group is a rusher also... think it has something to do with casino ;)

That table probably received special service because they tipped the waiter something extra at the beginning of the cruise;).

OP, as others have said I would have spoken to the steward and maitre'd immediately.

We used to look forward to those awesome Carnival beds. On our recent Conquest cruise, the bed was really hard. We asked for the egg crate and were told they were no longer available. Room steward was very sweet and added a few of those coverlet things, but it wasn't the same. Yep. Miss those old beds.

I think it may be because someone was complaining about a lot of things.

We had one meal like that-- the table next to us had a whiny biddy- I mean she complained about everything-- something not hot enough something not cold enough-- not enough ice in her drink and on and on and on.

Our table suffered through service because the waiter was spending way more then enough time on just that one lady

Getting desserts at 7 15 is pretty reasonable to me, what is the big rush? Like a leisurely dinner.

Would have discussed this with room steward.

so do you really think everybody should conform to your way of doing things. Or could they have their own wants and desires according to them and their schedule. Or maybe they should check with you each time they cruise so you could tell them how to do things?

This is CC and gave my opinion. Why the hostility?

If the OP is not happy with the service in the DR he should have complained than.

Why would you think you would get bumped to late dining? Last cruise, we had a problem with a waiter and told the M'D. We were moved to a much better table in about 3 minutes. Regarding the mattress, sorry to read you had a problem and sincerely hope this does not happen on our next cruise. If it does and we are uncomfortable, we will speak up and get it fixed.

No one can fix a problem if they do not know it exists.

Be well!

There's no such thing as a hard bed, imho. I want extra extra firm, thanks. The bedding, not the mattress, is what's so wonderful about Carnival, anyway. My last couple of cruises, I thought the mattress was way too soft.

Maybe the table that was getting all the attention was a large one that had 8 or 10 people who sent everything back or wanted to try seconds and didn't ask for them at the time they placed their order.

I mean, everyone here just tells people "order as many menu items as you want! Ask for seconds! etc etc." without taking into account that their "exra" demands puts a strain on the waitstaff.

All that extra work that has to be done for one table means that someone else probably won't get the attention that they should.

If I think I'm going to want extras, I tell the waiter when I order. It's very simple.

To the OP, if there's a problem, SAY SOMETHING then. The time to ask for resolution is when something happens. Waiting until you're home and complaining on Cruise Critic won't really resolve the issues. Unless, of course, you're hoping for some sort of compensation, like a discount on your next cruise. And considering your concerns, I wouldn't think any compensation of any sort should be expected or given!

My husband and I usually don't like to spend a long time in the dining room, so we will let our waiter know that in advance. I would have told him if I were you. Everyone is different and you can tell that from reading the posts above. Some like to have a long leisurely dinner and some don't. But, we have always told our waiters that we like to eat quickly and it works. Usually they will have the next course right after you finish the one you are working on.

As far as the beds go, it can't hurt you to ask. We asked on Princess and we ended up getting a memory foam mattress pad that was meant for the suites but our stewardess had an extra in her closet and put it on our bed.
