Issues I have encountered over the Years

Recommended Posts

We love cruising and feel it is by far the best value. That being said, as I am just a few months away from hitting my 50 cruise mark, I was thinking back to the crazy "minor" things that have happened to me. Some may be preventable, some just bad luck. Hopefully someone who may read this might get some value out of what to watch out for. Here goes.....

  • Ordered chops steak in the main dining room and after an eternity of waiting they tried to slip past me a regular anytime menu sirloin steak.
  • Twice I have been charged for full mini bar charges even though we never touched the mini bar/refridgerator.
  • Twice after the cruise was completed, I was charged $25.00 for towels "assigned to my room", even though we never use them.
  • Had a passenger swipe my winnings off the roulette table and make a break for the exit.
  • Assigned a D1 cabin filled with choking cigarette smell from previous passengers. Room attendent said all they did was sit in the room and smoke the entire 7 day cruise.
  • Called to naughty room for luggage and had to open up luggage to be searched for alcohol. I did not bring any so there was no alcohol to be found. Waste of about an hour.
  • Used babysitting service, while walking through the promenade saw my unattended child sitting in her stroller in one of the shops. Turns out the babysitters were busy shopping instead of attending to my child.
  • Towards end of cruise my room attendant came by to collect my tux. Trouble is the tux was my tux not a rental. He left and said he would have to talk to his manager. I never heard anything back.
  • Won the end of cruise snowball jackpot bingo and was given 400.00 dollars even though it was guaranteed via the daily paper to be minimum 1000.00. We didnt say anything, collected the money and left happy to win what we won, yet oddly a call to my room departure morning from staff saying they were sorry there was a misprint in the paper. Looking back this has to be the smallest snowball jackpot for a seven day cruise on record.
  • Cruised solo and asked for a large table. Was assigned a table for four, sitting with a family of 3 who were extremely upset as to why I was at their table. To this day this is the only time I swapped tables.

On that one you should have taken your kid and watched the babysitter scramble to find your missing child.

RE: The "naughty room"

I've been summoned there once. They pulled aside the suitcase in which I'd packed all my liquid bathroom sundries...shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, etc. They must have looked like alcohol.

I'm trying to think of issues I've encountered, which might be helpful to new cruisers.

  • On my first cruise, we booked a low-deck/aft cabin (inside...we're were budgeting) and heard (and FELT) the anchor drop at each port of call. Not a huge deal, but easily avoidable.
  • Nearly missed the Quest Show on my first RCL cruise. Had no idea what it was and didn't plan to attend until the CD ran into us outside our cabin and insisted we should go. We did...and it was GREAT!
  • Booked the early seating on our very first Carnival cruise and found ourselves sitting with a group of passengers who had literally never left their cabin that day. While 8:30 was late for us to eat, we switched in order to be seated with a more lively group of passengers. (The Maitre'D informed us that early seating is typically older and more sedate passengers or families with young kids. I use MyTime Dining now.)
  • I booked a CONNECTING flight for my day-of-cruise travel to my departure port. ('nuff said)

My list is much shorter out of about the same amount of cruises. The list is made up anyway. :) It's a joke.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk (now used more often because of the bad ad placement on the full CC website)

Not sure whose list you are talking about, my list is 100% legit.

I wonder if anyone who has been put through that for no good reason has ever gone up to guest services and handed them a bill for "vacation time wasted" ?

O.K.....here's my $.02

Re: the person stealing your money.....you got it back and that was the end of it??? No further ID'ing this guy ? (via casino staff/Mgr) If he did once, he would have done it again. They needed to (attempt) to ban him from there.

Re: The baby thing....that's been covered....I would have been raising hate and discontent with the highest ranking person that I could have got their ear

Re: Tux.....You never really said whether he took it or not. You said he was going to talk to somebody, but didn't really say if he took and never brought it back.....I assume he didn't take it, but just curious

Re: Bingo....I assume you followed the jackpot amounts the past 6 days and everything was on the up and up??? Another words the program the day before said that there was like a $350 jackpot that day?.....and the one before that $300 etc.....did $400 sound right? I have never heard of a $400 pot on even a 3 day cruise I doubt, let alone 7 nights....as much as they charge, they had to have over $400 in the pot other than one reason-----> somebody actually hit the jackpot in the last day or two....short of that I can't imagine there only being $400 after a week of people donating money

The casino issue was not reported. He gave me the money back immediately upon request. It all happened within about 30 seconds. Keep in mind I am on vacation and not going to let some jerk completely spoil it. Yes, he probably has done it before and was successful. I would have to say there is a percentage of people who would not attempt to run after the guy.

The tux incident happened with my wife in the room and not me. No way in hell she was handing over my tux. According to her he was serious about taking it though and did not believe it was ours. I did run into him later in the evening and asked him about it and he just kind of smiled and said have a good evening sir as if there was some kind of language barrier. Wierd, that is why it made the list.

As for bingo, I am one of those guys the real bingo players hate, because I only show up for the snowball end of cruise pot. You have to figure, one has about a 1 out of 200 chance of winning that pot so it is good odds to show up for it. I was amazed it was so small but I had already won the slot tournament earlier in the cruise so we were basically elated at our good fortune and since only showing up for the last event had no basis for arguement. Only when we received the phone call explaining themselves (for no reason) did we get suspicious of the amount.

  • 4 months later...

Cruised solo and asked for a large table. Was assigned a table for four, sitting with a family of 3 who were extremely upset as to why I was at their table. To this day this is the only time I swapped tables.

And aren't you glad you did, look who you ended up with.
