Put your toothbrush in the safe? WHY??

I wonder if the comment on visine being put into food was removed. All I could find was one from a ships nurse directed "@Maria" apparently the one who posted about visine. & I could not find any comment from a Maria.

What does the visine do? Mess up your GI tract? It's a vasoconstrictor, but it seems like you'd have to use quite a bit to really do something if it's mixed up in food etc. I carry something similar - afrin - because I'm prone to nosebleeds, helps stop one really quick.

Visine might be good for your eyes...but not your insides...yikes! http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/visine.asp

Maybe it's just that i'm the odd one - but every hotel i stay at i always pack away all of my toiletries before i leave the room - i can't even contemplate leaving out a toothbrush. I always try to make sure everything is up off the floor, put away and is tidy so that it's easier for them to clean - i always figure if it's easier to clean then they'll clean it.

That and i know i'd be annoyed to have to clean around other people's crap - so i can't imagine leaving anything & everything out and a room wrecked.

Not sure i'd leave it in the safe tho - I always have a tote i put all toiletries in that i hide away in a closet or on a corner of the bathroom area wherever i go (and trust me - i've spent a good chunk of my life in hotels). That's a good enough safe for me. The only time i've put toiletries in a safe is when i've been on prescription pain killers i didn't want to tote around.

Recently while watching "Cruise Ship Diaries", during an interview of a crew member, I noticed a cabin stewardess wearing yellow latex cleaning gloves, pick up and move the guests toothbrushes so she could clean the glass shelf they were sitting on.

It's unknown whether or not she had already cleaned the toilet before doing this.

I did a search here on cruise critic for a packing list a few days ago. I'm just going over it now, and I found the strangest thing listed under Cabin/Clothing Tips. It says:

"Lock your toothbrush in your safe when you leave your cabin."

I'm almost afraid to ask, but.............WHY???

I always do alone with my medications, mouth wash. Basically, anything that can be contaminated, whether on a ship or in a hotel.

You are all a bunch of paranoid freaks. Do as I do, leave your toothbrush at home, you are on v a c a t i o n. Before I go on a cruise, I go to the dentist and get my teeth cleaned. That will give you a 5-7 day buffer where toothbrushes will not benefit you. True story, ask me if I am lying.

WOW ! ! !

Reading this thread makes me so glad I grew up in the 40s and 50s :D . . . Just how friggin' paranoid can some of you get ?

Want to worry about something? Worry about our National Debt (soon to put us in the category of Italy & Greece). Worry about the ACTUAL number of unemployed not just those that still qualify for benefits. Worry about our crumbling cities, many now run by gangs and dope dealers. Worry about the daily trampling of our Constitution and the headlong rush our country is doing as it moves to Socialism. These are things worth worrying about.

Sorry about the rant (couldn't help myself).

I've lived to the ripe old of "something", and I drank out of garden hoses, rode my bike without a helmet, my mother drank and smoked whilest pregnant with me (and my siblings), ate children's aspirin like they were candy, ate unwrapped halloween candy, and brushed my teeth with a toothbrush that was left in the bathroom whereever I was (home, hotel, cruise ship).

Like you said, paranoia is a waste of time.

I think you owe George Carlin a royalty.

I was just having fun. I'm sure there are people

that worry about people messing with their TB -

The real reason to cover and/or store your toothbrush

is explained in this very short, yet informative, video:

The crews quarters are quite limited and possibly no room for a bulky toothbrush. So first cabin of the day they borrow to brush their . Crazy thought or maybe not.

Of course they don't have room for a toothbrush.....too many nice little trinkets from the pax home states in there! LOL

as a side note....any poster who thinks it is paranoid to hide away their toothbrush is actually the paranoid one IMHO....

I haven't left my toothbrush in view in any hotel or ship in years....for all the obvious reasons stated here...

as a matter of fact...if they weren't so darn expensive...and I like to travel for long stretches of time....I would actually travel with the individual pre pasted disposable one time use toothbrushes....

but they are like $2 each!!!! and we always travel with the family....so best thing...we always buy new toothbrushes with covers at the dollar store for each trip...and keep them covered and in a cosmetic bag...that does not stay in the bathroom but in a drawer....

On my last cruise I did start hiding away meds in the vault.....a small cosmetic bag that would fit a toothbrush and small comb/brush left in the vault aint such a bad idea....thanks for this thread OP!

Now we know what happens to those who remove the tips from their sail and sign account. LOL!!
