jstducky Posted August 3, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Sorry to ask, but it's been a few years since I've been on an RCI cruise. When I get my Sea Pass card, can I take it to the front desk to get hole-punched so I can use it with my lanyard?
Ren1216 Posted August 3, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2012 It's been a few years for me too since my last RCI cruise, but I'm pretty sure you can still have this done. If I'm not mistaken, they did ours right at check-in last time in Port Canaveral. So ask there first, and if they can't, go to Guest Services once on board. chipq Posted August 3, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Either at Guest Services or in the casino once it opens is where I have had the cards punchef. http://luv2cruise.blogspot.com
alfaeric Posted August 3, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Yes, you can. We've done that for lanyards as recently as a month ago.
diskris Posted August 3, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2012 When you do lanyards do you get ones where the card is just clipped on or where it has a pouch? Bed Bath and Beyond has these really nice ones, but it is just a clip so I was nervous to buy it.

Bed Bath and Beyond has these really nice ones, but it is just a clip so I was nervous to buy it. We do the simple hole/clip. And one that's not all that easy to open. The ship has one that needs a rectangle shaped hole, but We've only been on a few ships that have that kind of hole punch. I'm not big on the pouch- having had a few for work, the clear plastic fails over time. YMMV.
Ren1216 Posted August 3, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 3, 2012 I have not tried the ones with the pouch and clip, we punch a round hole in our cards and then use a key ring to attach to the lanyard. The last time I asked about lanyards on these boards, I was informed that this practice had become "unfashionable" and "tacky" in recent years. (Yeah! no joke) Sooo.... in order to keep the ladies in my family looking spiffy, I took a shot at making beaded lanyards. I finish them off with some sort of metal hoop, then attach a small key ring to the hole-punched cards along with a lobster clasp for easy removal. I have a rhinestone one with a lobster clasp but I didn't know if that would be good enough to hold them. I wouldn't use it on the islands, but would a lobster clasp work (as in it won't open easily)?
FLACRUISER99 Posted August 3, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 3, 2012 I bring my own, but sooner or later I just know some security rent-a cop is going to confiscate it saying its a weapon!

I wouldn't plan to hook the lobster clasp directly to your card, could be tricky depending where they punch the hole. If your lanyard ends with a clasp, then I would attach a split ring to the card first, and then clip the lobster clasp to that as it will be easier to get on and off. If your lanyard ends with a metal ring (like in my pics), attach a split ring and then a lobster clasp to your card. Here are a few pics of the metal hardware that I used, found in the jewelry making dept of any craft store. This ring looks larger than the clasp, but it's actually only about the size of a nickel. They come in several sizes and gauges, and are inexpensive though you may have to buy a box of ten. A small single key ring from the hardware store will work just the same. Rare Lionesss Posted August 4, 2012 #13 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Just got off the Freedom July 22 sailing. Had two choices, found out the hardway ( I will get there in a minute) Round hole or small rectangle at customer service. I had two of each on my 4, yes 4 sea pass cards. Stupid me purchased a very pretty beaded lanyard holder from Staples, and I put it over my neck. Well I did not realize it had a magnetic clasp that held the back of it together. Every time when I tried to get in the cabin, my sea pass did not work. The first day I had two sea pass cards, and the second as I was getting my fourth the attendant goes, let me see you lanyard, low and behold the magnetic clasp was de-activating my sea pass. I know you read about it, and are told not to put it near anything magnetic, but, I did not knowabout the clasp I just put it over my head, I did not open it. Once I pulled out another lanyard I brought from home I had no trouble. Safe travels Sue and crew
Georgiagolfer Posted August 4, 2012 #14 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Didn't know about the casino, might be a nice option as guest services when you get on board can be quite busy. DW and I always get ours punched in the casino on RCI and CCL.
Rare Lionesss Posted August 4, 2012 #15 Share Posted August 4, 2012 When we got on board, we walked upto customer service and there was no wait, too many people were exploring the ship. No crowds. Just wondering how people get their sea pass punched in the Casino when they get on board, if it is closed in Port and does not open till out at sea. Do they wait till after sail-a-way?? What do they do with their sea pass, keep in pocket? Safe travels Sue and crew

beachgoerzz Posted August 4, 2012 #19 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Sorry to ask, but it's been a few years since I've been on an RCI cruise. When I get my Sea Pass card, can I take it to the front desk to get hole-punched so I can use it with my lanyard? When we went on the Allure, we went to guest services and they had a man walking through the line to see what people needed. He took us right to the side and hole punched our cards. This took all of 5 minutes. We always just use the card with no cover. Have fun!
Rare rafinmd Posted August 4, 2012 #20 Share Posted August 4, 2012 On the Enchantment they only had the round punches. I had a square clip, and they punched 2 holes side by side which worked perfectly. Towards the end of the cruise the card demagnetized and they put 2 holes in the replacement card without me even having to ask. Roy
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted August 4, 2012 #21 Share Posted August 4, 2012 I have a clear plastic sleeve that was a name tag at a conference I attended. It has a blue (fake) bead necklace attached. It is not as classy as the ones "ren1216" makes--but, very convenient. When I get towels at the pool they can scan my card right through the clear plastic, the beads do not get wet at the pool as cloth lanyards do, and I can even put a couple of folded $$ bills behind the card and go to the casino. In the evening I carry a small purse and just take the card out of the sleeve (much easier than off the lanyard) to carry. I have used the same name tag/necklace for 3 years. Several name brand (Nautica, Guess, etc) vendors sell card holders. They are intended to hold government or company IDs. But, mine was free and a good way to recycle. Cute, I made some beaded lanyards for a few of my friends who cruised a couple of years ago. They are more stylish. ocdcruisenut Posted August 4, 2012 #24 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Several years ago when we signed our DD up for the kids club, they had the lanyards with a blue octopus on them. If I remember correctly, there's usually someone in the cage area of the casino during embarkation. That's where we get out lanyards and cards punched.
