Norwegian Epic - Dec. 8, 2012 - RT Miami

We were watching the debate as your post came through last night. I did see the thread on the main board about the Norwegian Epic. I have been following it. The only thing at this point that I am interested in is what time is the Friends of Dorothy; on the current sailing, the time is 8pm but I cannot remember the location. This may be the current time for FOD, but we have no idea if the Epic will have the same cruise director or what.

As for planning meals; I will wait until I am on the ship to do that. We very seldom eat at the specialty restaurants.

I also saw that your friend Ann has been on that thread.

We have never been to a FOD meeting on any ship. I remember wanting to go on our first cruise but then never got around to it. A few cruises later, Ray and I walked past one and there were three people sitting there so we just kept walking. I know, RUDE! Hopefully this cruise has a better turn out.

FOD always seems to be hit and miss. Our first cruise which was on the star and before NCL started to also put GLBT next to FOD; only 2 other couples showed up. We never went back. Once when we were on the Pearl, 17 couples showed up including a single guy who was traveling with his family and was obviously not out to them. He thought we were going to have an orgy. The turnout when we were on the Sky wasn't too bad. And most of our Princess cruises, the turnout wasn't too bad either.

Well hopefully the turn out is a little better on a ship of 4000 people. Either way, I hope we will see you at sail-away. In past Cruise Critic groups, we were so excited that we started the party a little early and didn't wait until the official Meet & Greet the next day. This group seems a bit more subdued even though they keep saying that over 100 of us that will be at the meeting.

I agree, I really doubt you will have a 100 people showing up at your meet and greet. Maybe if the weather is nasty then you might. When we were on the Caribbean Princess last year over Halloween, we had roughly 100 people show up at the meet and greet. But also, it was cold and a snow storm was hitting the Northeast; We sailed out of New York and the captain made the decision not to debark until the following morning at 6am. I was glad he did. The Norwegian Jewell sailed right past us and went on out to sea during the snow storm. We were hearing horror stories about how rough it was for them that first night. TV's were falling off the shelves, etc.

If it would have been a beautiful day, I really doubt the turnout would have been as good as it was. Also, your meet and greet on the Epic is at an earlier time than ours was, so maybe the turnout will be better.

I still have another 15 pounds to lose before we sail, otherwise, I would probably have to buy some new slacks!

Scott

LOL...I know what you mean. I always like to lose 5-10 pounds before we sail so I can stuff my face all week long and not worry about it.

Did you see on CC that someone in our group is trying to organize a flashmob for his wife's birthday on embarkation day? That would be fun if he can pull it off and teach us a dance in the next 49 days.

I did see that about the flash mob . . . that would be a hoot! Even though, I can't make the meet and greet maybe, I should go ahead and join in on the main roll call.

Glad you came over to the other board...it was getting really boring in there with only a few people talking..

Thanks, yes I am one who likes the chit chat on roll calls. On our last cruise there was this one guy who would get so mad with all the chit chat.

It's the chit chat that makes for a fun board...if it were all info about the cruise, why would anyone want to meet each other.

I have to say, that board is the lamest out of all the boards we have been on over the years. The people seem so disinterested in knowing each other and except for a few of the regulars, I really don't have any interest in meeting most of the them. I was looking back at some of our older threads and there are hundreds of pages of "chit chat" which made us so excited about meeting each other. We even used caution tape on our carry-ons so we can find each other in line at embarkation, that's how excited we were.

What an innovative idea with using the cautious tape or what ever we said.

One thing a lot of us did on our last cruise was; our ship was the Caribbean Princess and we were doing a Report cruise from New York to Ft. Lauderdale. Every Saturday prior to our cruise, we would all gather at our computers and have a sail away party as we would watch the Caribbean Princess on the New York Harbor Cam sail past the Statue of Liberty, go under the V bridge and out to sea. Some people would add to the excitement by providing a sail away you tube link so we could also listen to music as we were watching our ship.

This activity was fun and we interacted with each other. We had over 100 post count per viewing. Prior to our cruise we had over 3000 posts.

Hey Michael, You are right; the main board doesn't seem to have a lot of regular contributors. But it does look like that a lot have signed up for the Meet and Greet. There are going to be a lot of travel agents on the ship. I just learned yesterday that another travel agent group is also having a Seminar @ Sea besides the one I am on. That brings to a total of three that I am aware of.

So does that mean we won't be seeing much of you? Between classes and homework, I hope you have time to let loose and have some fun.

For this Seminar @ Sea that I am going on; NCL has yet to charge my credit card. I have the money just sitting there waiting for them to take. On a NCL group facebook page for travel agents I participate in; none of the other two Seminars have been charged, yet either. I am hoping they will carge us next week so I can do our on-line check in, find out which room we are in, and go ahead and make a few pre purchases.

Regarding my seminars, one reason this particular seminar was appealing to me was because it included a lot of free time. All of our sessions are only on sea days and are over before noon. Cory can either sleep in or wake up and go to breakfast with me before my seminars. On the first sea day, they do have a ship tour planned for us in the afternoon. We will also have two hosted cocktail parties, which I am hoping, we can go to those and then on to Friends of Dorothy or whatever? There is nothing planned on port days.

It depends...if we want to see a show, then we usually eat around 7 or 7:30 so we can be done around 9 or 9:30. I'm more a "lay around the pool" drinker and then of course, as the evening winds down, we usually head to the casino or out for a few drinks in the club (providing they play some disco). I'm also an early riser so I'm sure I will stagger outside to see Ann doing her laps around the deck. Don't know if this ship does BINGO but have loved doing that in the past.

We also like to lay around the pool, but we will sometimes take a nap before we start what ever we are doing for the evening. When on a cruise, we normally just wake up when we wake up with the exception on port days. But for this cruise, I will wake up fairly early so I can eat breakfast before my sessions begin.

I am watching the Alabama LSU game now and my team got beat pretty badly. Baylor beat us! We are a basketball school. However, the University of Missouri got beat and I enjoyed watching it.
