Anybody bought an alcoholic drink package on Victory?

If this program goes fleetwide hopefully Carnival will set up convenient vomit stations that include barf bags, paper towels, water, and aspirin and antacids! They will surely need more security too for all the out of control people.

Lol! At first I thought it would be a good idea, but I would never get my money's worth.....

Why I changed my comment from money to profit.

Besides, the smarter ones switch to top shelf anyway. I know I did.

Gerry's job is to show Micky x amount of Revenue per passenger. Why volunteer to cut everyone's bar bill by less then half.

Carnival has a target amount of money to give back to corporate. How they do it is irrelevant as is how many passengers it takes.

Liquored up people are generally looser with their money.

Why do land based casinos give away free drinks - I definitely order top shelf on those. Casinos are not in the business of losing money.

Your best straw man ever, congrats.

Revenue goals are revenue goals no matter how you slice it.

P.S. I truly believe Gerry has missed his revenue goals for at least the last quarter or two and this isn't going to help.

If he did, it's Costa's fault and the effect is temporary. But I doubt it since the cost of my cruises hasn't been plummeting but going up.

I would buy it as if you got 5 to 6 frozen drinks a day and a nice glass of wine at dinner it would pay for its self.

I disagree with some 15 drink all day long will not get me drunk and I only drink once or twice during my college break.

Even for a person who might drink a glass of wine a dinner and 3 DOD a day and the rest in cokes

12 cans of cokes at 1.95 =23.4

3 frozen drinks at 7.25 = 21.75

nice glass of wine at 9.50

for a total of 55.1

port day might be a little harder to drink moneys worth but I wonder if you could go to the bar and ask for 2 or 3 cokes pp unopened to take off the ship if they would have a problem with that? shouldn't but you never know?

how they make their money is also by making the kids in your room by the same package only thing is they have to order non-alcholic drinks. I would get this even if I had a 3 of my kids in the same room as they love to order the non-alcholic frozen drinks and even with them it will pay for its self. My oldest son can very well drink over 15 cokes a day, so we get him the unlimited soda card, as we do not buy cokes at home except one in a blue moon. This would limit his cokes and let him have more frozen drinks.

I wonder if they will gain money by ppl haveing this option and hoping ppl that smugle will buy this instead!!!

This is not a rumor.

I was on the Victory last week; the package was listed both on signs on at least one bar (martini/wine) AND IN THE DAILIES.

I talked to at least 2 couples and a group of two guys (who traveled together) who bought the package and were not in a group either.

Again: the package was publicly advertised on both signs and in the dailies.

Caveats:

All in cabin must buy (not sure about what happens if you have multiple cabins)

15 drink max @ no more than $10 value each

Must buy within first two days of cruise

42.95/day, does not include gratuities (which are charged based on drink value)

Hope they implement this fleet wide - would be nice to know exactly what the cruise will cost without the sticker shock at the end when you get your S & S bill. Thanks for the update.

They have a package for alcoholics??

Well aren't you a ray of judgmental sunshine

I've been to two different AI's for a total of 14 days, and never saw a drunk person. (They were AI's that were couples only, no singles, so that might make a difference).

CNBC did a report on AI's and concluded that they were MORE profitable than resorts that were room only (no meals or alcohol). They said that people tend to eat and drink more than normal for the first two or three days, but then it tapers off considerably.

Considering the drink prices on board ship, it really doesn't take many drinks to break even on this deal. A couple of DOD's, a glass or two of wine at dinner, soft drinks, etc., and you are well on you way to doing just that.

i really like the idea of a drink package. Sailing on Carnival for the first time in 10 days but i have been on a couple of Celebrity cruises and they have drink packages. First I will admit that i tend to try and hit the daily amount of the package. But i do tend to drink a fair amount when on vacation anyway.

However, it's not so much that i drink more alcohol but it's other liquids (sparkling water, soda and specialty teas ) that I usually would not order that I will since it's included. i can go through a couple of bottles of sparkling water at dinner and 3-4 bottles of evian water during the day and that adds up.

Plus it's nice to know up front what my bar bill will be. No guessing with a package.

Ditto to all the above.

Having spent the last 2 years going to AI's where the drinks flow free of charge, have not seen any more drunks than one would encounter on a cruise.

Agreed stayed at sandals twice. First day people arrive they have unlimited drinks and feel no pain, day 2 never see them, day 3 they drink far less. Of course always have the hard core ones that could do it 24x7.

Interestingly tested on the most port intensive cruise in the fleet.

That make it worse somehow. Come back on the ship at 3pm and you have some "catching up to do" - 16 hours of drinking condensed down to 8.

If everyone in the cabin has to opt-in, I see lighter drinkers being pressured into

buying this by the heavier drinkers in their cabin "Come on, we're on a cruise -

live it up a little.. I'll pay 1/2! Can't finish 15 a day? Just order it but give it to me".

Lighter drinkers become heavy drinkers and heavy drinkers become lushes.

I can see the next onboard adult activity:

Where does it say that? It only states all over 21 in the same stateroom must buy it.

Carnival Cruise Lines began testing a new all-inclusive beverage program aboard the Carnival Victory starting with the ship’s Aug. 5 departure.

Under the “My Awesome Bar Program,” guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer, and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails, throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. All wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced $10 and lower are available within the program. Full bottles of wine and champagne, as well as wines by the glass, beers and individual cocktails priced above $10, are available at a 25 percent discount.

Guests can sign up for the “My Awesome Bar Program” at Carnival Victory’s atrium and casino bars, as well as a bar within the main pool area. Each guest aged 21 years and over in the same stateroom must purchase the beverage package. Guests must be 21 years or older to consume alcohol on Carnival ships.

The cost for program is $42.95 per person per day, plus a 15 percent gratuity.

That's because there is no limit. The minute you say "You get 15 drinks for $50" people will feel the need to "get their moneys" worth and drink what they paid for.

Carnival would be better off going unlimited - people would drink LESS.

I don't think so but ok.

On any other line who offers this (RCI/ X) there is no such caveat. Maybe I will give Carnival management people some credit on this one and say they know their target market.

From my own personal position, I would buy this in a minute as our S & S bill for drinks is the major part of the cruise cost but also a major unknown. This way we know what the entire trip will cost us. I won't be cruising though with a clicker in my hand saying "OMG it is 11pm and we have only had 9 drinks. Giddyup woman, tie on the liquor bag"

Who is going to remember the cruise with all this binge drinking going on:D? 15 cokes in a day? Hope you have a good dentist! No need to go to the MDR as one can consume more than enough calories just from drinking.

Your right sorry I misread it. Some how, maybe being to excited about it, I skiped the whole over the whole had to be 21 to buy it, just seen the 21 to drink alcohol.

They need a drink package for kids to get frozen drink cause man they can add up fast too.

LOL... like you could get away with saying "Giddyup woman"

She would throw you overboard! :)

I just hope your right, Steve. I enjoy drinking, but I

can't stand drunks.

Neither can I but having experienced both cruises and AI's in the last couple of year, the number of drunks witnessed at each was about equal. The drunks at the AI were happier as it was already paid for.

And yes, I can say giddy up to my wife and not get thrown overboard. She might kick me in the nether regions but there is no way she can hoist me over the rail.
