Just in case anyone missed it. Go to (Hsn.com keyword:cruise) to order your brochure to get $100 OBC. It is combinable with other promotions, I just did it today. What I have noticed is they seem to change your latitudes number but your cruise history should transition with the change. So you will not lose that.

Takes about 3-4days for you to receive an email stating your latitudes number has changed then call your PCC or TA to apply the $100 OBC.:)

Is it just me.... Every picture I see of the pool deck has these big large white boxes taking up massive deck space :/

What are these??? They are an eyesore!!! Hoping when I get on board they aren't as noticeable or "annoying" as they are in pictures. Why block out prime deck space with white blocks of.....?????

Can you only use the OBC for dinner at Ocean Blue and a bottle of wine? I don't eat seafood :(

It is just applied as $100 OBC to reservation. You can use it anywhere on the ship(not towards tips though). I believe it's meant for speciality restaurants but, but no there is no restrictions of use besides for tips. It is non-refundable. So make sure you use it all. Between the shops and drinks I'm sure I'm not going to have any problems.:D:p

Stair case and elevator lobby, restrooms, buffet kitchen, kids area, just the essentials. lol

They did put a touch of art work on them.

Oh good grief

That's exactly what I say every time a non smoker brings up smoking. In case you haven't noticed its the non smokers that have to bring the subject every day and a half. The smokers just go about their NCL given right to smoke and go about their business. The non smokers should do the same.

New topic...

Noticing the reviews are coming in...kind of so-so. One common theme, though, is the fact that there was really nothing special to mark the TA sailing. Do you think this coloured the view of the writers of some of those negative reviews? My experience with cruising is relatively non-existent....and I really want to enjoy our July cruise. I am trying to keep my expectations minimal. Is it common for there to be too much hype and then some let down with a new a new ship? New to this world of cruise forums too.....

I've written some negative reviews, too...and it is usually when I am really unhappy, and maybe even a little....well, hurt...that I didn't feel like the hotel was interested in me as a customer. So I understand the view of the writers.

I'm gonna ask a question to get off the other subject. What hotel that has been either newly renovated or brand new that s like under 400 on a Saturday nite?? Should I take a taxi or car service from LGA?? Anyone stayed at Marriott Marquis Times Square or the Conrad?? These seems price right..but any other suggestions r good. Just want something clean and convenient to the pier. Thank u in advance.

We're staying the Marriott Marquis, but it will be our first time so hopefully it lives up to the reviews! :D

It will also be our first trip to NY. We're flying in Fri afternoon. I booked a tour for Sat with newyorktours dot onboardtours dot com. They take you to see many attractions in NY, and it's a small group tour. I don't think we'd be able to see everything on our own that's included in the tour.

Love the Marriott Marquis! Had a room with reward points before our cruise on Gem in September. Got upgraded to a larger room with view of Times Square at check-in. :) The room was nicely furnished, very clean, and HUGE by NYC standards.

I understand the higher rooms on the other side of the building look out toward the Intrepid Museum and the pier. Should be able to have a view of the ship when she comes in.

I needed a few things before we got on the ship and ordered them online through Food Emporium on 43rd Street. Everything was delivered right on time, just a little hiccup on the hotel's end.

There are shops galore along this stretch of Times Square in case you forget something - like your makeup bag as I did! You can also see the GMA windows from the Times Square side.

Thanks for this info!! I had read good reviews about the hotel, but it's good to know there are lots of shops close by. :D

Marriott is nice and in the middle of Times Square... Take the subway to lower manhattan and go to the 9/11 memorial or take the circle lines around the island.

Make sure you go to the View for a drink at the Marriott great views of the city and it rotates

Thank U so much! And I never been on a subway....wanna try but scared I will end up somewhere I'm not supposed to go. Lol. All right New Yorkers.....what's the one place I have to visit when I get there??

you could take the subway to the Bronx (HOLLER!) and watch a yankee game as well :p :p .... sorry, had to shout out my team!

best part of being raised in nyc is that there are so many things to do! so i can't give you a real suggestion, because i don't know you and what catches your fancy. shopping you can do in times square-- will be crazy, unnecessary expensive but if money is not an issue, have at it. museums are all over the place. restaurants pretty much anywhere. broadway shows, off-broadway shows, opera if you ride the 1 train a few stops uptown.... it's a helluva town!!

On Breakawaycozy space. Upper decks today. Awesome! Nice arrangment on public decks. A lot of people onboard, easy to get around.

Will try pics later, have to resize to download.

Few comments:

Casino- not as tight as Epic. More spread out, easier for people to move through.

Shops- nice layout, not cramped.

Garden Cafe-crowded, easy to find seating. Found food to be very good.

Deck 8, in warm weather like today works, while narrow, can move around, easy away to meet folks.

Theater, attractive good site lines.

Spiegel Tent, not as tight as EPIC, looked like a bigger stage.

Cabins, feel bigger than EPIC. Balconies, some small, deck 17 forward owners suites, very nice, huge balcony.

Manhattan, like decor, big dance floor

Cagneys, again, nice decor, good layout.

O, sheehan, s pretty good size. Handled crowd well.

Pool decks- bigger pools than EPIC, sports deck, people loved the ropes course.

Haven area, cozy space. Upper decks plenty of sun space.

Deck 7 , while no loungers, still a nice area to take in the sea.

With apologies to the let's-move-on people ... there's really not much going on here, so my two cents shouldn't take up any valuable real estate. Feel free to skip if not interested in the great smoking controversy.

I don't think a vocal opponent like Joeski is entitled, or feels entitled. I think he's trying to carve out his space in a situation where the world isn't forming itself the way he feels it should. I definitely agree with the people saying let's wait and see what it's actually like on the ship (although that flies in the face of the essence of this thread :)). But if NCL neglected to announce or enforce that smokers should give diners a little room, I don't believe non-smokers should have to choose between 'dealing with it' or heading inside. And I suspect smokers (if not smoker defenders) who argue as much are seeing the world through smoker-colored glasses. I bet NCL doesn't have rules against body odor on the ship, but if I shelled out for Ocean Blue and were upwind of someone stinky, I wouldn't think that fair, and I don't think I'd be 'feeling entitled' for feeling that way. Just like if you worked third shift and I lived downstairs/next door and liked to play loud music while you were trying to sleep; you wouldn't be 'feeling entitled' to sleep, you'd just want to sleep and think it unfair that you couldn't.

The ideal situation is the one that probably plays itself out 99 times out of 100: smokers who are courteous enough to give diners a little room (and, maybe 70 percent of the time, non-smokers who decide the smokers aren't putting thm out sufficiently for them to make an issue of it). But I don't think the Joeskis of the world are obligated to endure the 100th just to honor the good intentions of the other 99.

I also think some smokers don't understand how the smoke affects some non-smokers. I'll go downstairs with a coworker and stand next to him and talk to him while he smokes (by the entrance of the building, where people have to pass to come in; another instance where the rules aren't sufficient). Maybe it doesn't bother me so much because I have smoked occasionally. My wife, meanwhile, hates smelling smoke on people's clothes/hair when they come back from a break. It's easy to say non-smokers should 'deal with it' when 'it' is something you like, not something that bothers you as much as it does some others.

I absolutely believe that if NCL lets the waterfront be a smoking venue they are making a terrible mistake since there are restaurants nearby.

As for the smell in their hair and clothes, I really don't think they realize how bad they smell. I used to wash my hands, spray perfume, and chew gum after smoking, and my friends still complained. It wasn't until I quit myself that I realized exactly how nasty of a smell stale smoke is!

Don't forget the taste when you kiss a smoker! Also I don't think gum works because the air coming from your lungs is tainted (figured that out from the kissing :))

I've never been on the subway either or to a Professional Baseball game. I'm doing both before the cruise. The Mets are playing and I was told to go to Grand Central Station and take the 7 train to CITI stadium or Millet stop. It sounds easy. I'll see.

The subways are super easy.... assuming you don't accidentally pick up an express. That has messed me up before, not fun to watch your stops go by and you have no clue where you are getting off.

Won't try to dissuade you from the tour, but you might want to consider the HOHO buses on your next trip.

Doing the Yankees/Red Sox in September. The atmosphere better live up the hype I have developed in my mind. :)

You'll get lots of information that isn't specific to NCL or the Breakaway over on the East Coast Ports forum at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=415

Glad to hear that about the casino - I did feel the other was poorly laid out and difficult to navigate in places.

In two weeks I don't think we ever stepped foot in the buffet area on the Epic... I guess I'll have to check this out!

Thanks,

Tom

I was just on Adventure of the Seas and we had a superior balcony which is listed at 52 sq ft and the deluxe is listed at 57 sq ft. So this is 6 x 9ish vs 4 x 8 for the standard balcony on the Breakaway. This is not tremendously larger.

Our balcony on Oasis was only 53sq ft and this is the largest passenger ship in the world.

We did not have room for longers and only had a small table as well. To stretch out my legs I had to put them up on the railing.

So, I don't think the balconies on Breakaway are exceptionally small, but just smaller then the expectations for such a hyped new ship.

In reference to the HSN on board credit - we are already booked to sail in October - can we get this obc or is it ONLY for new bookings? Thank you!

i was able to get it and i booked back in February for my Oct 2014 sailing. Just give NCL a call after you go to hsn.com to apply for the brochure. In about 4-5 business days you should be able to call NCL and tell them you should have a $100 OBC promotion waiting under your name to be applied. You should be able to combine it with any promotions. While HSN wants you to use in in Ocean Blue or a specialty restaurant it is a generic $100 OBC that could be used for anything once you are onboard (other than tips).
