magandab Posted September 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Does anyone know if there is a half-sized roll-on bag out there anywhere. Qantas limits the weight of carry-ons to 15 pounds each. Mom and I could put our meds, jewelry, and cameras, etc in one smaller bag, but it would be much easier if it rolled, even better if it spun! I was thinking 10-12 inches or so. But, most are within 15x15 inches instead of the 10-12 you are hunting for. But, it's a starting point!

Thanks for the tip. Actually 15x15 is still better than 21-22 inches for most carry on luggage.
SadieN Posted September 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Trouble with anything with wheels is that the wheels use 5-6lbs of your alloted weight. http://www.ebags.com/category/luggage/z/under-seat/f/carry-on?origin=left_nav An idea for a wheeless tote http://www.ebags.com/product/baggallini/bagg-in-a-pouch-medium-crinkle-nylon/47366?productid=510124 ****** Since there is a very limited weight requirement first weigh what you need to take on the plane with you. Wear your jacket and pack the pockets ;)

Wear your jacket and pack the pockets ;) Great idea about wearing all your heavy stuff prior to bag being weighed. When they start weighing people, we'll all stop traveling! I just bought a small bag that has a laptop compartment and will fit under the seat. I don't mind the weight of the wheels, I use them to my benefit. My "personal item" has a sleeve on the back, so I put it over the handle of my carry on so I don't have to carry anything! :) This bag is 18" and weighs about 7 pounds. It's just the right size for a weekend's wardrobe.

Wear your jacket and pack the pockets ;) True about the weight. But, if she really wants the wheels, she'll have to deal with the weight. ALWAYS wear or carry your bulkiest jacket - it isn't usually counted as something when you carry. I say "usually" because there is probably some LCC out there in Europe that charges for each item you bring on board:eek:
magandab Posted September 5, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted September 5, 2012 The main reason for wanting the wheels is that we are checking three pieces, so Mom will have to lug this one, and she's 84!
sail7seas Posted September 6, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2012 If you are limited to 15 pounds, how about forgoing wheels and getting a shoulder Baggalini type carryon or a Vera Bradley. Or a Vera Bradley backpack? The severe weight limit really does make it wise to skip the wheels and use those 5-7 pounds for items you want to carryon. Would you Mom be able to manage a softly quilted Vera Bradley backpack? I made note of her advanced age but perhaps she might be up to it? I agree about stuffing the pockets of your jacket, pants etc
luvscruising2007 Posted September 6, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2012 What about a wheeled back pack. DD had one that worked well. Weight my be a problem. Just a thought.
