Is a suite necessary or just a sweettreat?

The only way to cruise without paying for things you don't use is to cruise with Easycruise. I pay for the teenclub but I don't use it, I pay for the Garden Café but I don't use it etc. I don't mind to pay for some things I don't use because I don't want to pay extra for everything I use and I can't expect NCL to include everything I want and exclude everything I don't want!

That's true. You don't have control over those things. You're subsidizing those things even though you don't want them. However, nobody is forcing you to upgrade to a suite. You have control over that decision, so it's up to you whether it's worth paying for them.

I probably use most of the suiteperks I pay extra for when booking a suite but the Cagney's/Epic Club perk is the most important.

Cagney's is a fair point. I didn't partake in the Crab Cake Benedict, but I did like the french press coffee. I didn't think it was worth it, but you do, so that's all that matters. If it's worth thousands extra to you along with the other perks, enjoy.

Well, you'd never find me sailing on spring break. But if I were only able to sail at that time, I'd for ding-dang sure try to get the most comfortable cabin possible in order to get away from the screaming hordes.

I love spring break cruises. DH and I plan on continuing the tradition even after our teenage daughters are out on their own. We love it lively so what better time to sail.

Ok lets think about this so you think your spending less but really your not i booked a DOS for 7 days on the gem 500 obc included now thats 4500.00 ok now that I get unliumited soda and bottled water .another 100.00 , a bottle of moet another 100,

now lets see 3 bottles of booze of my choice thats 35 shots per bottle that equals 105 shots at the going rate on a ship thats 8.00 and 12.00 a drink thats 840.00 or 1260

so lets round it off to 1000.00 now 4500-1200 now your down to 3300.00 which is 1650 per person plus 1200 square feet of space and all those wonderful perks that worth it for us So you actually pay for that suite and you just dont realize it and you dont get all the perks and your in a much smaller room P.S. I like to enjoy my vacations only 3 weeks a year so I'm going to live it up.

"1650 per person plus 1200 square feet of space and all those wonderful perks that worth it for us So you actually pay for that suite and you just dont realize it "

To be sure I understand you, your estimate is that we would spend:

3,300.00 (1,650.00 per person) on the cabin

1,000.00 on drinks

100.00 for a bottle of champagne, and

100.00 for soda and water

Sorry, but that logic only works if the other cabin we booked cost us 1,650 per person. The balcony on our upcoming cruise cost us 699 per person, nowhere near 1650

If you can afford it, and if it is worth it to you, enjoy. We can all calculate the cost vs. benefit ratio for our own situation.

Suites come with champagne included. Nothing is stopping you from buying champagne on your own. Someone brings food to your suite everyday (whether you want it or not). Every room comes with room service. Food is a phone call away for everyone. Sure, if you want to borrow old DVDs and play them in your room, that's something you need a suite for. It's up to you whether it's a perk that's worth it.

In most suites, Champagne is not included. Even when it is included, it's just one bottle.

Why do you care what I spend my money on? Some people gamble and I don't but why shall I care about how they spend their money?

Noone is forcing me to book a suite, except me! I want a suite and book a suite, it's my decision.

The food in Cagney's/Epic Club is not the only reason to like that restaurant.

And it's not a very good bottle of champagne to boot. :(

I couldn't care less what you do. Take your money and burn it, if you like. It's your money. I'm just commenting that it may not be a wise use of that money.

The Champagne included in the most expensive suites is NOT a bad Champagne. It's not a super Champagne but it's incorrect to call it "not a very good bottle of champagne". The sparkling wine included in the cheaper suites is not very good but it's still drinkable.

You use the casino and say that paying for a suite is not a wise use of money, I can't even comment that because it's too stupid to comment.

If you want to burn your money in the casino I don't care.

With some of this back abd forth pi##ing contest IMHO here is my synopsis:

WE ALL CRUISE FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. SOME TO EXPLORE THE WORLD, SOME TO ESCAPE STRESSFUL LIVES, SOME TO SOCIALIZE OR ROMANCE OR MANY OTHER REASONS.

NCL IS A GREAT LINE. YOU CAN CRUISE IN AN INSIDE ROOM, ONLY PAY THE DSC AND HAVE A BLAST.

OR YOU CAN LIVE LIKE ROYALTY IN A GARDEN VILLA.

OR ANYTHING IN BETWEEN... ALL IS GOOD. IT'S CALLED CHOICE.

PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE SUITES ARE NOT STUCK UP SNOBS.

PEOPLE WHO CRUISE INSIDES ATE NOT BUMPKINS.

PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE SPECIALTY RESTAURANTS ARE NOT JUST FOOD SNOBS.

PEOPLE WHO FREQUENT THE CASINOS ARE NOT LOSERS, (MIGHT I MENTION I WON MORE THAN THE AMOUNT OF MY FIRST CRUISE... AND THAT MEANS PROFIT).

PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE NCL EXCURSIONS ARE NOT STUPID AND PEOPLE WHO BOOK THEIR OWN AREN't EITTHER.

PEOPLE WHO SPEND TIME ON THEIR CABINS AND EVEN WATCH TV OR DVDS AREN'T GASP LAZY, ANTISOCIAL DEADBEATS.

PEOPLE WHO ONLY SLEEP, SHOWER AND CHANGE IN THEIR CABINS AREN'T "MISSING SOMETHING".

THOSE WHO DO SPA, ART AUTIONS, EMERALDS, ETC. AREN'T THROWING THEIR MONEY AWAY... IT'S THEIR MONEY AND THEY DETERMINE THE VALUE.

MY PERFECT CRUISE IS NOT YOUR PERFECT CRUISE.

BUT LET'S NOT PICK EACH OTHER TO DEATH BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT WANTS AND NEEDS. B

LET'S EMBRANCE THE FACT NCL GIVES US ALL THAT CHOICE!

IN THE MEANTIME, COME VISIT ME IN MY SUITE. VI PACKED MY MINI BLENDER AND I MAKE A MEAN FROZEN COSMO.

YES, I TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NCL'S OVERPRICED BAR SETUP... GLADLY!

HAPPY CRUISING.

mfw you imply the "champagne" they give you is Champagne vs. "sparkling wine."

Did you know the water from the faucets in the suites is sweeter than the regular cabins? My butler told me so I know it's true.

No need to imply - in the OS, DOS and GV's - it is CHAMPAGNE!

Looks like a lowercase "c" to me: http://www2.ncl.com/freestyle-cruise/freestyle-accommodations/suites-and-penthouses

From that link:

"Champagne, custom selection of liquor, fruit, bottled water and sodas"

Pretty much the same stuff available to anyone.

"Sparkling wine, bottled water and fruit on Embarkation Day"

Ahahahaha! sverigecruiser, you're so adorable. Champagne. *snort*

"Mini-bar and espresso/cappuccino machine"

Translation: a refrigerator and a coffee machine that uses k-cups. (Okay, maybe the OS, GV and DOS has a real espresso/cappuccino machine, but I doubt it. The lawsuits from someone getting burned by the frother makes this highly unlikely.)

"24-hour Room Service"

Just like every other room.

"Special Suite menus"

Perfect for people who like to eat alone.

"Treats delivered right to your door each night"

Old sushi and gummy bears! Yum!

The suite room service menu IS DIFFERENT.

OUR TREATS WERE GREAT. Never had sushi or fish.

Like I said, why judge others for what they like and choose? It might just backfire on ya.

If you like it, enjoy it. Pardon me for pointing out, IMHO, that some of the perks aren't what they're cracked up to be and correcting misinformation when I see it. The OP of this thread was asking if a suite is worth it. I'm just providing perspective. If you like to eat in your room by yourself, then maybe a suite is for you. I don't judge.

After the 12 hour Antarctic Landing excursion which was about 12 hours, taking a shower, changing into pjs and having Le Bistro in my suite, looking out the stern balcony was perfect. It was wonderful.

People who have met me through CC and cruised with me know I am not one to stay in my suite and eat dinner alone every night. I like getting out. But it is a nice option.

Actually, I thought your tone was a bit judgemental and I wasn't alone in that conclusion, see above post. However, if I misjudged you, sorry about that.

From reading these boards I do believe those who actually try the NCL suite life either as an upgrade from previous cruises or for their first cruise rave. Occasionally someone who tries it thinks it's not worth the extra cost, but they are in the minority.

I like to eat Le Bistro in my room, I enjoy the butler services, I enjoy a huge balcony and the Moet in the Gem's 15000 DOS! I will have a DOS on my Epic cruise, and we booked it because that is the ship my very favorite butler Maxi will be on in January.

Freestyle cruise means choices. We can choose to cruise however we like. I love my way of doing it, but if I had to choose I would rather sail w/o a suite than not sail at all. No, I do think it is a must, but it sure is wonderful! There is nothing like a romantic dinner on my balcony served course by course by a wonderful butler as we sail into the sunset.

Just my thoughts,

Cherie

Just a couple of corrections-- it was real Champagne in our suites, and a perfectly good one. My French family is in the beverage business, so I know of what I speak. And yes, the espresso machine in both of our suites had a real frother, and no one was harmed in the making of cappuccinos. The coffee was Lavazza, the same one I use at home and love most in the world. What you call a refrigerator actually was stocked (and restocked) as requested by us, thereby qualifying as mini-bar, and I never encountered old sushi, so no clue where you got that one, either. I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that you have never been in one of NCL's suites, or you would at least be giving factual information. Different levels of suites may have slightly different perks, but certainly in our case, everything was as advertised and we were very happy to have spent our money on such an excellent experience!
