More Changes At Carnival....

LHP

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately .... some very good people (some of whom we have gotten to know over the years) were let go on Monday to make way for this individual.

And while he has a boat load of achievements....none of them are specifically in the cruise industry.

Last time I was at Sea World....I was not empressed because they had replaced a lot of an animal acts with acrobats....and I do not go to Sea World to see acrobats....

Hope this is not yet another "mistake" on Carnival's part.....

Adrian Fischer has been named vice president, entertainment for Carnival Cruise Lines. Fischer will oversee all aspects of entertainment and programming for Carnival’s 23-ship fleet, including production shows, live musical performances, comedy clubs, guest activities, cruise directors/entertainment staff and youth programs. He will also focus on developing new entertainment concepts for the brand.

Fischer will lead the roll-out of new entertainment programming recently announced as part of Carnival’s Fun Ship 2.0 initiative. These include Playlist Productions, which combines live performances with high-tech LED effects; the Punchliner Comedy Clubs Presented by George Lopez, who will serve as the line’s curator of comedy and as a consultant in the vetting and hiring of comedic talent; and Hasbro, The Game Show, featuring larger-than-life stage adaptations of the brand’s popular and iconic board games. Fischer will report to Mark Tamis, Carnival’s senior vice president of guest operations.

Prior to joining Carnival, Fischer served as vice president, entertainment for Sea World Parks and Entertainment where he oversaw the production and operation of all shows and special events at the company’s San Diego park. He also spent three years as senior vice president, live productions with the Blue Man Group, responsible for artistic, casting, production and general management for the group’s 10 theatrical shows worldwide.

Fischer’s experience also includes nine years with the Walt Disney Company, serving as director of entertainment operations for the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., and producer/manager for the company’s entertainment programming in California, Florida, Singapore and Taiwan. He also spent 14 years in the music and theatre industry, working at the San Francisco Opera, Theatre Calgary, the Sydney Opera House and the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, holding a variety of managerial and technical production positions.

Fischer earned a master of fine arts from the University of California Los Angeles, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

Interesting

Carnival has been consistently changing thru out the last several years

One can see it as mistakes ( I do miss the old carnival )

Others see it as targeted marketing to a certain customer

The results will measure if it's a mistake or not

I know it harsh , but things change

Btw sea world it got old , was in dire straights it morphed into something differnt from years ago

Not saying it is better but it does attract crowds and is doing pretty good

All I need to know about changes made by Carnival. Do a search on this board if you need a refresher on this.

Well the old Carnival shows were getting stale. And while Punchliners has been going okay, the PL Brunch seems to be an overpriced waste of a decent brunch with little entertainment ina poor venue for comedy. So maybe he'll monkey around a bit and improve things. All things change, some for better some for worse, some for something completely different.

But who was let go for this guy?

Hiya, sweet Linda!!!

I checked around here locally and some were/are thinking that was already in place for some time.

Is it a promotion from previous CCL position perhaps??

<< hug> to you

.

I am thinking it is a promotion from within to this new "position"....lots of shake ups....

One individual that we know very well....(and all the Bloggers know him)...but I do not want to post his name here without his permission.

Also a very dear lady that handled most of the comedians ....

Another individual that worked in entertainment....

and an individual that worked with Camp Carnival (which I believe is unrelated to this new position)....

I am thinking that the position of Cruise Director is a unique animal....

this is not just about "entertainment"....this is about the ability to handle the worse case scenerios of customer service....

when someone is unhappy...it is the cruise director that they seek out....

CDs also have to be extremely organized and mentors that will garner the respect of those who work with them....

just because someone can handle "entertainment"...that does not mean they are the entire CD package.....

It takes a rare breed to be a CD and an even rarer breed to be able to spot and cultivate that kind of talent.....

Is there an extra charge for the Punchliner Brunch? How did I miss this???

Carnival entertainment can certainly use freshening up so this might be a good change.

If some of the "new" comedians we have heard recently is any indication of what Carnival got for their 2 Million Dollars for George Lopez to screen them...

they got totally ripped off.....

One has to wonder why in the world Carnival would spend 2 Million dollars to "promote" a Punchliner Comedy Club that was already standing room only every night....

some things just don't make sense????

We are fresh off the Destiny and each and every comedy show was standing room only. This caused a few near fights to break out among the more inebriated (or just rude) cruisers. One wonders why they didn't put the comedians in the main auditorium--it would have been packed but wouldn't have caused the pushing, sitting on the tables that we experienced. Just a thought.

On the new Carnival Sunshine, that *may* be a possibility. :)

I'm really not trying to sound rude, but wasn't this announced months ago? Shortly after the 2.0 stuff was announced? I totally remember this being announced on JH Facebook back then.

Edited to add:

(I'm only pointing this out because I'm pretty sure these changes are already in effect. I don't think it's going to be "more" changes. I just did a quick google search and it was announced in Oct of 2011.)
