A Note on Table for Two Requests

Mskala

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but a few weeks before we left for our Pride cruise (just returned today), I emailed the Maitre'd and requested a table for two for my BF and I. It was our first cruise without family and I wanted it to be special.

I never got a response and had assumed my request was received too late to accommodate. When we arrived for dinner the first night, assigned time 8:15p, we were seated in a booth set up for four but our tablemates never showed, so we thought. The second night was the same. On the third night, we got a personal visit from the Maitre'd asking if the booth was to our liking, which is was. He then explained that while he is not able to fulfill all requests, he was able to grant ours but they are no longer allowed to respond to the emails anymore in the event something has to change at the last minute.

Just a note for anyone that may have made a request but not received a response.

Congratulations!

Curious though, how did you know the maitre'd's email address? Where would we find this info?

I did a search here on the boards and found the list. I'll post it here if I find it again...

I emailed the maitre'd before our last cruise asking for a nice round table towards the back of the ship for the 8 of us because we were taking our parents (their first time ever cruising) with us. I never heard back, but we got a perfect table. I just assumed we got lucky. Thanks for the insight.

Mskala, thanks for the heads up. I am the kind who likes confirmation and would be going nuts waiting to hear something. At least now I know not to think my request got eaten by cyber gremlins when I don't hear back before the cruise.

Did you have set dining? We have ATD and am wondering if it would be worth it to let the Maitre'd know ahead of time that we will always be requesting a table for 2.

Just from what I have read on here I don't think it would be worth it. Every post I've read from others who have had ATD got a table fit for the amount of people they showed up with unless they specifically requested to sit at a larger table with others. That was the reason my husband and I decided to go with ATD, so we could sit alone or if we met others and wanted to have dinner with them, we could do that too. :)

Thanks for the info. I plan on emailing the Maitre'd to request a table for 2 on our B2B in January. Now I know not to look for a response.

I will go to the MDR to check our table assignment during the time the Maitre'd is available.

When cruising alone, my wife and I generally like to sit by ourselves, also.

When we requested a table for two, they would take a table for 4 and pull them apart about 3 inches. They would then seats us, and then sit someone, literally, 3 inches beside us. It was pretty laughable, and the folks were always nice that we sat next to, but I would've enjoyed a bit more privacy when talking with my wife over dinner, especially since I had made a special request for a solo table.

How far out do you typically email the Maitre D? I am cruising on Dec. 9 with my buddy, and we'd like a large table at dinner to meet new friends!

I could be wrong so someone will correct me if I am but I believe the tables are attached to the floor. Three inches apart is just how it is with some of these tables. My husband and I had a table for two with another couple three inches from us. Pretty normal.

I emailed on 9/11 for our 9/23 sailing so if you email now for December, you may be good to go!

Thanks for the info... I emailed the pride last nite and rec'd a response this morning

All it said was "ok". "Kind regards" and his name

I did put our booking number and cabin number along with the date, and our request for early seating table for 2.

I was excited because we were wait listed for early dining

I never emailed, but I would say 1 to 2 weeks.

I did a b2b in June and on night 3 or 4 of the first 8 day cruise I requested to stay at the same table. I stood there for about 10 minutes as he downloaded the info for the next cruise.

Good to know! as we just got off our cruise yesterday and were UNSUCESSFUL in obtaining a table for two.....despite what everyone has been reporting on CC.

AND despite being in a suite, being invited guests of the casino dept......and despite standing in that "help me I need a table assignment change" line for over 30 minutes instead of being able to enjoy our trip from the time that we boarded!

Ok....so I was a "bit" miffed at having to sit with a large group as DH and I do not have that many opps to spend time with just the two of us...but the tablemates were nice...and I will try the e mail thing next time!

Thanks again for the info! Of course now that a LOT of people know how to do this.....do you think that it will carry less weight? Hope not!
