Want to book RCI cruise for late December 2012.

How do I handle my Visa points to get dollars off the price of the cruise? I have plenty of points.

Do I notify BofA first, then book?

Should I book while on the Brilliance later this month? Would Future Cruise OBC be accepted along with Visa points?

Does shareholder OBC come into play at all?

Help, I'm confused!

If you were sure the price of your Dec cruise would not go up more than the OBC you will get for booking on board, then I'd wait and book on board. After booking, I'd get on the B of A web site and redeem the points for your credit. You can combine Visa points benefits with future cruise OBC.

If you are not planning to book a balcony (or you're not entitled to a balcony discount), then you can book now and use the shareholder benefit OBC. The advantage of this is that you lock in the price of the cruise now.

Shareholder benefit OBC cannot be combined with either on board booking OBC or balcony discount.

Using Visa points is different than it used to be. No more waiting for certificates to arrive, filling them out and sending them to C&A. Now, you will have to have a cruise booked (in order to have a booking number) before you apply the points. You will have to go to the redemption site and enter the cruise booking number for which you want the points applied. Fill out the required information and your points will be applied.
