I recall talking to a British ship's officer - who told me that they have "difficulty" when sailing in Ozzie waters -- BECAUSE the Poms can be relied on to always turn up 30 minutes late to a venue , BUT the Aussies always turn up an hour early. Hence any organisation that they make tends to turn to custard. Reminds me of many a cruise where they say that tender tickets can be collected from the somewhere or other place at 7.30 AM - but people start queuing up at 6.30AM

I can therefore imagine on a BIG ship like VOS with LOTS of passengers - but many venues that can only take a much smaller number before they are full eg the ice skating , that there will be many venues where to get a seat, you will need to turn up fairly early.

Can you kindly comment on that thought please??

Hi Shiona

Just so you know that tomorrow in Melbourne many of the roads will be closed between 8am and 12pm for the City to Sea race all along St Kilda road and the St Kilda foreshore area, so bear that in mind when you go to the shrine. I know cause I'll be doing it (slowly, not really racing in any way :p)... And am looking forward to a view of the lovely Voyager when we get to the bay!

It will be a beautiful day in Melbourne, sunny and 27 degrees, but I bet you know that from your daily compass

Barry the the ice rink holds approx 800 ...4 shows are staged to accommodate everyone we are getting one extra for those that didn't go and are now regretting .. La Scala Theatre holds approx 1200 most nights two shows .. best seats go early we get there 30 mins before for drinkies no problem finding good seats ...English Pub is always busy small venue people come and go we have always been lucky enough to find seats after 9.30pm . Windjammer can get busy but there is plenty of seats...especially when we go to breakfast after our walk at 0630... lol... to be honest we were worried about overcrowding especially as our last cruise only held 640 but it's not too bad certain times it is crazy especially when leaving shows and when the $12 markets are on but other than that the ship runs smoothly .... cant comment on the pool areas its been too cold to be out there ...

Voyager of The seas

I did the 14 Night Cruise from Singapore To Fremantle

Of Course you will get 5 different outlooks saying things like looks tired, getting old but let me tell you, it is a wonderful ship.

Carpets getting a bit tired near cabins but she is well maintained has many, many things to do. You will find skating shows are limited so do not miss your chance , as i did, Evceryone raved about them.

I did a couple of lots- Laundry and found reasonable priced and lets face it who wants to be sitting in a laundry half the day.

Personally i loved every minute, My balcony cabin was much bigger than Princess - about 30% +. I have done almost 50 days on Princess- Sun and this ship leaves it for dead. Personally i thought the food was great. but i am sure people will complain. I also found in the true Aussie tradition if you embrace the staff, chat and have some fun you will get a great return.

Anyone who says drinks are expensive are wrong, cocktail of the day was about $6.50 and you get to keep the glass. VB was about $5.50 and after paying $16 in Singapore it was a bargain. They also have 3D movies on board and show them in the main theatre. Having been on mostly mid sized ships this was a wonderful experience. I have booked Sydney to Fremantle on Feb 19th and can't wait

In your room there is a kettle and you get Tea milk and sugar but no coffee. If like me you enjoy a coffee -take a jar with you.

In the bathroom you only get shampoo and condtioner. I did look at some inside cabins and they were very spacious.

The promenade Cafe on deck 5 is open 24 hours where you can get coffee, tea, cakes, rolls pizza etc no charge which is great. I went to Johnny Rockets 3 times and it is worth the $4.95 i promise. All you can eat and you get a dance show from the staff.

Gym area is outstanding, Promenade makes you feel like you are in a shopping centre and not on a ship.

For me the 1450 seat main theatre was awesome, 3 levels and was like being in a grand ol theatre

If i had any issues it was i was on second sitting for dinner at 8.30. This was too late for me , by the time it was finished it was almost 10PM.

The guy who played piano in the shooner bar was good singer but played the same songs every night and i got the feeling he did not want to be there.

All up- loved the ship- MOST staff were outstanding and i enjoyed every minute

cheers

Forgot to mention, when using your sea pass check the card when you get it back.

1 time i got the wrong card back, went to my room, discovered i had the wrong card. Went to reception and got a new 1 which was no problem BUT the person who got my card racked up $50 in drinks in about 10 min.

This was no problem, reported it to reception and they deleted it

cheers

So glad you enjoyed the ice show Shiona, I said you would LOVE it. It really is an amazing performance and you do forget you're actually on a ship watching the performance.

Have you been out to the Heli Pad at the front of the ship and the 'Peek a Boo' window to view at the Bridge and check out who's in control yet?

Must be a cruise ship phenomenon, as since coming to live here in this great land we have never found that Aussies arrive early for anything..so your comment made me smile.

Especially as my other half would prefer to arrive 3hours early than 3 minutes late!! Many times we have sat in sporting stadiums wondering if we were there on the wrong day/time.

So was a bit of a shock on a ship to find people at places ahead of time.

Well now that you mention it!! - yes, I am really only talking about the situation on the cruise ships. But then again, I don't really go anywhere else that involves large numbers of people turning up on time to something.

We were also on this cruise and completely agree with everything said. Great ship but an awesome crew who really embrassed the Aussie's. So many of them haven't been to Australia and are really excited about visiting so many places.

I really liked Kinetic, the Malaysia (??) band who mostly played in

Cleopatra's Needle. They took requests and whilst they repeated some songs, they were able to play most requests.

We often had dinner late in the dining room, and whilst we got out of there late, it was our choice, we lingered over dinner (My time dining), food always came out quickly and was always hot.

We had a Promenade room, was great overlooking the Pig and Whistle and whilst you could hear a bit of noise at night, it was minor - it was more the people going back to their rooms at 3 and 4 in the morning and slamming doors and having arguments that kept me awake!!

You will have fun on this ship, it is amazing.

No problems. Smaller than our HAL cruises, but still more than enough space. Found the cupboard/drawers a little lacking, had a bit of trouble fitting everything in. Still had king size bed and you could move around easily, double sofa next to the bed and then a sofa against the window overlooking the Promenade.

Was great to look out and see people rather than just an inside room. Very little noise from the Promenade (we were one floor up).

Would book again.

For everyone sailing on voyager we have just returned and it was a wonderful trip and she is an amazing ship, we had a balcony cabin on deck 6 and our cabin steward was Ramill, he looked after us very well and made our trip very comfortable. We where on our familymoon as we had just got married prior to the trip and bought our teenage boys with us and they had a great time. I found people complained daily about trivial things but we just made the most of everything even when our room flooded, it took 3 days to dry but the staff do everything to make your time on the ship perfect. Food was the only thing that was a bit of an issue, it was always hot ,plenty of choice ,served quickly, but just a bit boring, we had booked portifino,s for two nights and that was amazing. There are heaps of choices on this ship every day and we tried lots of the things in the daily compass, the grog is really cheap and leave a bit of space to take home the glass wear that comes with the daily cocktail it's quite nice and the smaller martini type glasses are wonderful, I hope everyone booked on this amazing ship has a wonderful time as we did, we loved it so much we have booked our next cruise on radiance of the sea to Hawaii in 2014.

Enjoy Judy :)
