Seen some of the P&O at sea staff parties? and during part of "our paid for Cruise holiday" I haven't because they wouldnt let me go:D:D:D but I have joked with many a hung over staff member the next day! Also dont be fooled by the Asian staff and their seemingly "Timid polite"nature! I worked in an almost exclusive Asian Nightclub for 4 years in Australia and some of the things they get up to when away from home would raise the eyebrows of even the hardest of drunk Bogan Aussies! lol Den
nenasmum Posted November 26, 2012 #154 Share Posted November 26, 2012 Ironic. As your generalizations about Australians falls in to the same category. Whip yourself with birch twigs much my dearie or maybe that gun your using to shot them down ought to be turned around? Btw - sometimes cultural generalizations do have a grain of truth in them so get over yourself. As anyone that has travelled to the sub-continent or any number of Asia countries tries would know. Just as some cultural generalizations about Australians also hold true. As a member of an Asian Australian family I do indeed find generalizations about the hygiene standards of Asian crew members made with a patronising allusion to "cultural habits" deeply offensive. But I guess after your "dearie " commnet you specialize in sexist patronising yourself. I have indeed travelled extensively in Asia and , as I have said, have found it both the cleannest and the dirtiest place I have ever visited. I would never dream of casting aspersions on the cleanliness of the crew based on their ethnicity. If you don't find such comments racist then I pity your lack of humanity
timtam2 Posted November 26, 2012 #155 Share Posted November 26, 2012 I have no doubt that some of the new Asian crew members appeared 'timid' because this would have been their first encounter with the ugly Australian bogan en masse. I'm sure the behaviour of the passengers on the voyage down to Sydney was quite normal. But for the crew to suddenly be confronted by blind drunk people everywhere, including ' young ' ladies who didn't seem to mind that everyone was aware they weren't wearing underwear and couples openly fornicating in the jacuzzi.... I think some of the crew were in Shock!

I worked on a cruise ship as singer for a year, about 10 years ago. Yes we did party hard but we also worked hard. It never even had an effect on our duties or the passengers enjoyment. To be honest if it had we would have been thrown off the ship without question. I am sure that entertainment staff, casino etc loved the one nighter as there was a bit of life about the ship. However, I'm not sure that housekeeping would have the same view!

joejoe 59 Posted November 27, 2012 #160 Share Posted November 27, 2012 My group of 8 girls had a fantastic cruise. The ship was very grand, loved the Promenade and Pig & Whistle pub atmosphere, the schooner bar had a really good Piano man playing to all hours of the morning (songs you knew the words to), 70s show was lots of fun-threw flashing rings into the audience, the sun came out in the afternoon so we could sit around the pool area with cocktails in hand, we were lucky enough to be on the Crown & Anchor priority line so were onboard early, headed straight to Windjammer where food was fresh and staff very talkative. We were there for a good time..so much to do in so little time and I'm sure we saw most things. Dining room was lovely, I thought the food was great. I even won $100 in the casino which paid for all my expenses...so i was happy! Gee im glad I was oblivious to all the bad things that were going on...certainly didn't ruin our night :D Great to hear you had a wonderful time. Amazed by the different experiences had by guests :)

I actually read in the UK press today that the UK is having a terrible time with Norovirus. Up to 50% of hospital wards have been shut down. It's obviously terrible if this happens to you on holiday but you don't have to be on a cruise ship to get the Norovirus.

cassamanda Posted November 27, 2012 #165 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Norovirus and similar diiseases are not restricted to cruise lines. Some years ago i was operating a coach tour and during dinner at our overnight accomodation, i noticed several senior people passing the food off their plates around amongst themselves. You know the sort off thing - "I'm too full, would you like some of mine, I haven't touched it" type of thing. Guess what, next day i had 23 people come down with stomach complaints and had to pull in at a local hospital having left a trail od sick bags along the way. As a result the vehicle was quarantined under public health regulations and so were the sick people. Had to get another coach at great expense to be able to continue the tour with the few remaining people. Moral of the story. Don't share food, wash your hands and cover your mouth when coughing. avalon007 Posted November 27, 2012 #166 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Another question for you all, we know we can take wine on board now, but how about nibblies, like peanuts and potato chips etc. Hi Dave, I recall reading a similar question on the RCCL board & the answer was only if in it's original sealed packaging. But you never know when rules change.:) Gbenjo who works at the OPT & posts in some other threads may know for sure? If you post the question in it's own thread you may be able to get a more definitive answer.
