cruisetail, uh I am new to Celebrity and not too familiar with the deck plans. Can you please tell me what decks are these and what category so I can know to stay away. I think I am familiar with the lifeboat decks I think on 5 and 6, but this overhang thing is new to me:eek:

Please keep in mind that cruisetrail has not been on Reflection, but that hasn't stopped him from complaining about her, and even before she was completed. Take his comments with a large does of skepticism about the validity of his opinions. I have been on her and I can describe her from actual experience, not opinion.

The photos he posted show decks 11 and 12 under the overhang. Because the pool deck has been raised on Reflection (making it easier to move around on the upper levels, by the way), these staterooms are one deck higher than her sisters. These would be decks 10 and 11 on the other four S-class ships. All the staterooms in these photos are Aquaclass on Reflection, some of them the new AQ suites.

The upper decks are wider to provide more space around the pools and the deck above, creating the overhang. The staterooms under the overhang are a favorite for some people, especially in hot, sunny climates such as the Caribbean, because the overhang provides good shading and keeps the staterooms a bit cooler. Most (but not all) cruise ships have similar overhanging decks.

Unlike Cruisetrail, I consider Reflection to be the best of the five S-class ships. But then, what do I know. I only spent 14 nights on her, while Cruisetrail has refused to sail on her, so I can't possibly be as knowledgeable about her as he is.:rolleyes:

Things I've gleaned from this post:

Don't be surprised if there is noise on a cruise ship - and lots of other people

Buy the premium package and frequent only bars that don't honor the elite coupons.

Avoid Captains Club and Elite functions - they will be crowded and full of people bemoaning the way things used to be

Plan to dine in Blu at the least popular times

Form my own opinions based on my experience on the ship

Sandi, your comment seems eminently reasonable to me. Good old human nature.

That said, we booked the TA cruise departing civitavecchia on 11/1/13. We will be midship on deck 8. Nothing fancy but one hopes in a decent port side location. This will be my first crossing, though not my partner's.

I detest the idea of formal nights, which I understand will number 3 on this cruise. Aside from eating dinner in a cramped stateroom, what might be the non-dressy alternatives?

Thanks.

Terry

The buffet will be serving a limited menu - including pizza, pasta, some Asian, and the sandwich bar. The specialty restaurants will all be open, and business casual is all that is required there. Bistro on Five will also be open for a minimal $5 charge if you like diner salads, soups and diner crepes, also business casual.

I am sorry for the onboard staff, which has to deal with this new ship.

From what I have heard from friends who were on her 2nd cruise, the staff was very pleased to be on Celebrity's new flagship. They said the crew was the happiest, and best, they have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I suggest that you go with an open mind. This will be my first cruise on Celebrity and I'm looking forward to cruising on this ship. The person in question has an agenda with Celebrity. I suggest taking his comments with a grain of salt.

Sailing on the reflection from 10/21-11/4, we found the crew to be the "best of the best". We saw many crew we know from previous salings. We have cruised in excess of 25 times. This was our best cruise! Best wait staff! Shubert and mike. Shubert will eventually be a maitre d and mike will certainly be promoted to waiter very soon. The asst maitre d jayson, was excellent. Service oriented, wonderful problem solving skills and an ability to make everyone feel special. Best mdr ever! Best butler and cabin attendants! Our butler, Margrarito was perfect for our needs.

Of course on a daily basis, these our the crew that affect the experience the most. Dining and cabin. For us the next most important are the casino team. Well, what a complete pleasure for 14 days! Familiar faces all around, great atmosphere, good times.

Brand new beautiful ship, perfect weather, nice fellow passengers. We're it into the elite breakfast or cocktails. We feel the expense of the drink packages provides and excellent value and flexibility. On vacation we enjoy not having to sign for drinks, coffees, juices, water and more. It works for us.

We look forward to sailing on the reflection or silhouette soon. These are our favorite s class so far!

She is a beautiful and well thought out design. Our favorite areas for relaxing were the Hideaway, the aft bar, and the front of the ship on deck 15, where we can now enjoy spending time without being blown away because they have added glass wind shields above the railings, a real plus if you like to watch the ocean in front of you, and the Ensemble Lounge when a drink is desired. There are many areas to just hang out, some more vibrant than others.

For specialty restaurants, my favorites in order were Q-sine, Murano, Lawn Club Grill, and Tuscan Grille. We had so much fun in Q-sine that we went a 2nd time. The MDR was a real surprise - the food there was almost as good as in the specialty restaurants. We also frequented Bistro on Five and the new Porch, going to both several times. Even the buffet area was good. My biggest disappointment for food was the Pool Grill, where the burgers tasted strangely odd (perhaps that is due to purchasing the patties from a European supplier with a different way of grinding the meat).

The shows were better than expected, and the entertainment covered a wide range, from a string trio, to a capella, to jazz, to piano, to pop, to disco.

We were so impressed with the ship that we are looking over future itineraries to see when we can sail on her again. Our traveling companions are primarily Princess cruisers, and they were quite impressed and are now thinking about switching loyalties and focusing on Celebrity in the future.

You won't be disappointed. :)

I wore my best suit and fit right in. You don't need a tux to honor the dress code - a dark suit and tie will be fine if you want to participate in formal night.

I feel sorry for the staff dealing with some of the passengers onboard!

Me, too, Librarylady! I picture all these people storming around the ship with scowls on their faces, because they hated the Reflection before they ever set foot on her! I personally can't wait to see her for myself!

Celebrity Reflection regular cabin location & specific issues.

Deck 12

All cabins on this deck are located directly under public areas and can be avoided just for that reason.

Additionally directly affected by the overhang: port side from 2107 to 2153, from 2169 to 2215; starboard from 2106 to 2150, from 2166 to 2206.

Note that some of the affected cabins have a sort of compesation - larger (much deeper) balconies: 2107, 2153, 2169, 2106, 2150 and 2166

2215 and 2206 have a slightly larger slanted "a sort of a private corner" balconies.

Also there is a chance that 2169 and 2166 cabins are larger - if it's not a mistake on deck plans.

2102 and 2104 are less affected but can be overlooked from above.

Cabins not affected by the overhang: port side from 2155 to 2167; starboard from 2152 to 2164.

Deck 11

Port side from 1501 to 1505 - views are somewhat affected by the bridge.

Port side from 1549 to 1599 - balconies with beams that support the overhang.

Port side from 1615 to 1661 - balconies with beams that support the overhang.

Starboard from 1502 to 1546 - located under fitness center.

Port side from 1554 to 1614 - balconies with beams that support the overhang.

Port side from 1638 to 1684 - balconies with beams that support the overhang.

Aft looking balconies 1667, 1669, 1673, 1690, 1692, 1694, 1696 - privacy issue (overlooked from above), some reports of soot from the funnels on sister ships.

Best cabins: 1634, 1605, 1620, 1547, 1552 - extra large balconies, second best - 1626, 1628, 1630, 1632 on the hump.

Deck 10

Badly affected by the presence of the bridge: 1001, 1003, 1002, 1004.

Less affected: 1005, 1007, 1006, 1008.

Aft looking balconies 1216, 1218, 1220, 1222, 1407, 1409, 1411, 1415 - privacy issue (overlooked from above), some reports of soot from the funnels on sister ships.

Best cabins: 1243, 1132, 1075, 1044 - extra large balconies.

Deck 9

Avoid 9101 and 9102 - bridge factor.

Aft looking balconies 9303, 9305, 9307, 9309, 9378, 9380, 9382, 9384 - privacy issue (overlooked from above), some reports of soot from the funnels on sister ships.

Best cabins: 9237, 9292, 9215, 9270, 9155, 9192 - extra large balconies.

Deck 8

Aft looking balconies 8342, 8344, 8346, 8348, 8349, 8351, 8353, 8355 - privacy issue (overlooked from above), some reports of soot from the funnels on sister ships, noise from the wake.

Best cabins: 8279, 8252, 8257, 8230, 8197, 8160 - extra large balconies.

Deck 7

Aft looking balconies 7311, 7313, 7319, 7360, 7362, 7364, 7366 - privacy issue (overlooked from above), some reports of soot from the funnels on sister ships, noise from the wake.

Best cabins: 7241, 7286, 7219, 7264, 7159, 7206 - extra large balconies.

Deck 6

To be avoided completely with an important exception.

The best balconies on the ship, so unusual for Celebrity (no obstructions at all, sticking out a bit, closest to the sea) - port side from 6109 to 1621 and starboard from 6108 to 6118.

The only downside is forward location that is challenging but exciting!

Note.

There were some fears about Celebrity reintroduce the old way of connecting cabins design on the Reflection (a door in the wall).

Yes or no?

I will appreciate it if someone can clarify (document) this (I missed this info).

The connecting cabins have never been an issue on the Solstice class ship due to clever desing decision.

Hopefully they did not change it on the Reflection.

This summary is based on the official Celebrity deck plans as published on their website.

However, they demonstrate unusual way of presenting information.

They just put "Reflection" on the photo of a different ship.

So they themselves don't know how their ship looks like.

Quite unprofessional.

So there may be some discrepancies in deck plans.

It's unlikely, but possible.

Enjoy your cruise!

zales,

I provided you with the info about the Reflection assuming you are going to cruise on this ship.

However this ship is the worst representation of the Solstice class because they have made significant changes on this ship in favor of the revenue, not in favor of passengers.

The detailed description of the chanches is here.

If you want to try Solstice class ships I would recommend the best one - the Eclipse.

Take comments of Celebrity fans with grain of salt. They cruise on Celebrity only and have little idea of what is going on in cruising industry.

I cruise on all cruise lines and can compare.

Totally untrue. Until you have been on Reflection, as several of us have, you have no experience with the real ship, but only toxic opinions to spew. You, of all people, with your well observed obsession with condemning Reflection, are the last person anyone should listen to for details on this ship. You CANNOT compare something you have no experience with.

Sail on her - I dare you. Then, and only then, will you have ANY credibility with your observations. And even then I suspect they will be tinged with negative bias.

I totally agree Boogs. I certainly hope people don't pick their cruise and cabin location based on cruise trail's biased opinions that are not even based in any experience or first-hand reports from other passengers.

I specifically switched my reservation from Silhouette to Reflection to experience the new features such as the Sunset Bar and expanded Persian Garden options.

I urge Reflection cruisers to report their experiences in the S class sticky so we can have accurate reports to consider.

This is a perfect example of how you talk about things that you have no experience with. The answer is "Yes", they did move the connecting door into the wall between the desk and the entry door. And the result? Zero - ZERO - impact! Nothing to fear as the doors are well insulated. Not one sound from the other cabin we shared a connecting pair of doors with. ZERO!

Again, you have demonstrated your bias and lack of experience to back your "information" up. That you didn't know this simple design change, which has been discussed in several threads already, proves that you are the last person someone should turn to to learn details about Reflection.

Cruisetrail-Aren't the third cabins off the hump also among the largest balconies( same as the first off the hump)? You left them off your list on each deck.

Yes, the third cabins off the hump have the largest balconies too, but those cabins are deeper under the overhang, deeper above lifeboats so I haven't marked them as "the best".

Hi friends:)....I so appreciate what you are trying to do but as a friend

you are never going to win this argument. There are people in this world

who will never admit others have different opinions and that opinions

are just like -------- we all have them.

There are people who think they are never wrong about anything...from

cruiseships and deckplans to how old a person should be in order to enjoy

a cruiseline.....

It gets so very old.....

You are both trying to get a different viewpoint and I understand and

appreciate it. Unfortunetly, there is always the person who thinks we

are all wrong and they are always right..........

Well, I remember this issue from the first day it was mentioned on CC boards (noticed on the video).

But I did not follow the continuation of the topic.

The fact I am asking for clarification just says that I am trying to be as presice as possible with the information I post on CC.

Boogs, I am sick and tired of your constant insulting personal attacks on me.

What a shame to see your posts like this one.

Stop it immediately.

Be civilized.

Thanks, but I'm not trying to win an argument with him. That is as futile as trying to push a rope uphill.

I'm trying to correct his misinformation for those readers who need facts, not bias, to make decisions. Posting falsehoods, incorrect details, and guesses do a great disservice to the readers of these boards. Posters should be honest, factual, and unbiased when sharing information that many people will use to decide on their next cruise adventure. Cruisetrail displays none of those traits.

Hopefully our challenges to his bad information will be helpful to most people.
