cruisingcouple15 Posted January 23, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 23, 2013 The comment "There are few if any cruiser newbies, which creates a noticeably pleasant atmosphere. We are on with a loosely connected group of 18" is highly offensive. I guess this person never had a first time cruise. Was born into this world as a veteran cruiser I suppose. PirateShark Posted January 23, 2013 #27 Share Posted January 23, 2013 I am still quite stunned that Mr. Del Rio actually takes the time to not only read this board but respond  Talk about personalized service! Just makes me wish I was boarding Marina March 2013 instead of March 2014 now.
sldispatcher Posted January 27, 2013 #28 Share Posted January 27, 2013 I want to be quick to point out that although I wholeheartedly agree that it is nice that Mr. FDR has a personal ear towards this forum, it is my wish that we acknowledge the many people up and down the corporate chain at Prestige who take ownership in their business. I know I've only experienced it once, and will soon do so again, but Oceania has an obvious top to bottom corporate culture that makes these things happen. Yes, we'll continue to give kudos to a CEO who takes customer loyalty and responsiveness as a personal task. I just want to let all the other Oceania folks from reservations (who I recently had a great experience with) to the behind the scenes folks and all of the onboard staff. Job.. Well.. Done.. HeatherInFlorida Posted January 27, 2013 #29 Share Posted January 27, 2013 I'm a "cruiser newbie" that just completed my first Oceania vacation. If you were on board, I'm terribly sorry if I spoiled your pleasant atmosphere. My wife and I shared dinner tables each night with very nice people, all of whom were seasoned travellers. I hope no one was disappointed that we had no previous Oceania experience to discuss. Not to worry. Most people would not make that observation about cruiser "newbie". Nothing I love more than meeting people who are on their first cruise and in so many ways I envy them. I'll never forget mine:) Getting back to the original theme, we spend part of the year in South Florida and have been told NEVER to use WD-40 on any of our metal tracks, window parts, etc because it turns into a "black gunky mess interacting with salt spray" (thus sayeth the "window guy.") Instead, we are encouraged to use silicone spray regularly on sliders, windows, hurricane shutter tracks and parts. Having said that, I'm pretty sure that the ships' crews know what to use and don't need my advice!! c South Floridians have learned what a mess WD40 makes ... yuck! The best product to use on tracks and sliders is "L.C.Wax" aluminum lubricant ... better than silicone spray and best in an ocean environment. Mura Posted January 27, 2013 #30 Share Posted January 27, 2013 Absolutely right! I cannot imagine why "cruiser newbies" would be considered a problem or people to be avoided. Mura
Pipkins Posted January 27, 2013 #31 Share Posted January 27, 2013 Dear ALL: I'm happy to report that as of this morning, all broken curtain mechanisms have been replaced aboard Marina. Sorry for the inconvenience. Also, a full inspection of each stateroom is being conducted and any curtain sheers or curtains found not to be in perfect condition and/or soiled will be first dry cleaned. If cleaning fails to restore them to like new condition, they will be promptly replaced. FDR We took our first cruise on Oceania last year - we were confirmed Seabourn fans - but Marina swept us away. Now waiting for our trip Jewels of the Pacific this March for 25 days - it is the attention to detail that so impressed us last time. Fantastic. Wendy The Wanderer Posted January 27, 2013 #32 Share Posted January 27, 2013 ... Staff is great, as are the passengers. There are few if any cruiser newbies, which creates a noticeably pleasant atmosphere. I agree with others that find this a highly offensive remark. I will be an Oceania "newbie" this November. hondorner Posted January 28, 2013 #34 Share Posted January 28, 2013 The best part is that most Oceania newbies become loyal repeat cruisers! Except possibly those who hunt for faults like sticky curtain slides...:p
cbb Posted January 28, 2013 #35 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Having had the flu shot I still managed to get the flu, albeit less severely, so my best wishes go to Mr. FDR and hope that he is getting well. This thing is terrible. Here's hoping for his speedy recovery. Take a nap and go to the beach to breathe that salt air....that's what I'm doing! If you have major skills, you can do both at the same time!! c
