gbenjo Posted December 31, 2012 #26 Share Posted December 31, 2012 WoW not a cyclone in sight! No way would a cruise company allow a change in a cruise itinerary without the passengers knowing the real reason? Like as "if" a captain and his girlfriend would want to see fireworks in Sydney on New Year Just as much as a captain wants to get as close to an Island as possible just to sound his horn to a friend and impress his girlfriend :D:D:D Den WOW not a cyclone in site......That's Royal Caribbean's goal... To deliver the WOW. By the way the cyclone was in Noumea not Sydney so you would not expect to see it here:confused::confused: Maybe just one ciggy just to clear the mind a little perhaps ???? I have not had a single craving although I have been a bit grumpy and argumentitive with some other CC members in some threads! Better the ones you dont know because they dont say "for God sake have a smoke" and leave me alone lol:D:D:D The Banner works well,I am half way saved to my first Grand Suite already;) Den Fantastic news...keep it up.. fishtaco Posted December 31, 2012 #29 Share Posted December 31, 2012 Rubbish ....... The decision was not made until lunchtime yesterday...but it was a "bonus" for most of the passengers The vast majority of them were more than happy to watch the fireworks rather than sail through cyclonic conditions.............RCL will also lose a fair bit of revenue due to the fact they will not be able to open the casino until New Years Day when they sail so I don't think it was done on purpose. We should become friends! anyone who knows the vast majority of any cruise ships passengers on any given cruise must be a great person to know!:D:D:D Almost as popular as me:cool: :D Den

I think the banner is a great idea by making more of a commitment. It is amazing that you haven't had a single craving. I hope it continues this way, making it easier for you to keep off the cigs. Aussieflyer Posted December 31, 2012 #31 Share Posted December 31, 2012 gbenjo Do you know if Radiance got away? I see that Crystal was round at Barangaroo but is to move to OPT today, though I know that you do not handle embarkation for that line. Was she round at Darling Harbour to keep her away from the OPT for NYE?
Kiwi Kruzer Posted December 31, 2012 #32 Share Posted December 31, 2012 The OPT is never available for cruise ships on NYE. Not only would a ship spoil the view , but that area is a no go area for craft during the fireworks display. Meanwhile in Funchal , Madeira the cruise ships have gathered and are ready for their fireworks display.. I assumed that there was a safety reason for keeping ships away from the fireworks in case something went wrong. Would make terrible headlines! avalon007 Posted January 1, 2013 #34 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Den, I don't quite understand your posts directed at Gbenjo. He works at the OPT for the company that organises the passenger boarding for Royal. It isn't unreasonable to expect he would have a good feel for what passengers are saying about staying in Sydney as they boarded. But what that has to do with CC members born on Jan 1st I don't know. The WOW he refers to is the marketing slogan Royal uses - for an example they have several WOW sales each year. It is not realistic to believe Royal would alter an itinerary because the captain wanted to see the fireworks to impress a girlfriend if that is what you were suggesting? Changing a cruise itinerary has far reaching & costly consequences, I know because our cruise had to reshuffle it's ports due to a cyclone & we heard all about what is involved. But I do applaud you for kicking the smoking habit & I hope you stay free of their clutches, as they too have costly consequences well beyond the financial costs. :) Happy New Year to all. The_Big_M Posted January 1, 2013 #35 Share Posted January 1, 2013 It is not realistic to believe Royal would alter an itinerary because the captain wanted to see the fireworks to impress a girlfriend if that is what you were suggesting? I don't believe they would have altered the itinerary just because of the fireworks, clearly that wouldn't have worked. The cyclone is a valid reason, however it looks like it was a try on to stay for the fireworks. For example, the one night cruises to nowhere are just out of Sydney where there is also no cyclone. And they could just do what most other ships do which is divert their course to avoid the trouble. Again the whole of the Pacific is not a cyclone area. Was she round at Darling Harbour to keep her away from the OPT for NYE? As far as I know Radiancee was leaving Point Piper at 6am today ( that is if it was ok with the captains girlfriend:D:D:D I will check that with Fishtaco ) As has already been mentioned the OPT is never available New Years Eve. The Crystal Symphony will go to the OPT today because the Oosterdam is due into Barangaroo today.

Dizziedi Posted January 5, 2013 #42 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Happy New Year everyone - we did take off around 6am on New Years Day after the the (spectacular) fireworks. We arrived in Champagne Bay yesterday morning and had a glorious full day - about 30 degrees. Today we are in Vila (hot and humid) and heading for Lifou tonight. We have had no bad weather (so far) and with the fireworks instead of Noumea:D it has been a fabulous cruise. By the way, the Captain is a happily married man who is very proud of his 3 month old baby boy:p Hope the no-smoking campaign is going well! Cheers Di
