Quiz/trivia on Marina?

We have become addicted to quizzes during the day on cruises and always come home with a load of prizes (all in a drawer somewhere)

Do they have them on Oceania? Lunchtime or several throughout the day?

the schedule has been only 1 per day at 4:30 pm....this was spring and winter of this year....they did schedule 1 "Name that Tune" one...at 10:30 PM...

Also last year the Trivia was at 4:30 pm as well( spring TA)...since we have only done TA's recently not sure what the schedule would look like on a port intensive cruise. Could be much different?

Anyway...enjoy ....we LOVE them as well. On "O" you collect "O POINTS" based on winning 1st,2nd or 3rd. place in Trivia...then you can turn in your points at the end of the cruise to collect a "prize"...based on the number of points you have...BTW...you can win O points by playing/doing other activities as well!!!

Have fun....we love playing as well!!!! LuAnn

Trivia is played everyday usually at 4:30 p.m. and is highly competitive. There are teams of 8 and a lot of fun!! Each cruise director has his/her own variety of trivia. There are daily crossword puzzles and written trivia questions. You should have lots to keep your brains going!! Arlene

Can you provide some insight as to what kinds of "prizes" we're talking about? Anything worthwhile or the standard cheezy fare? Certainly don't need any more tote bags, key chains, or travel mugs...:D

It is "the standard fare" - add to the list T-shirts, visors, baseball caps, etc. I am afraid money (as in Bingo) or free cruises are not one of the prizes you can get for O points :D

That said, I would like to think that nobody really plays trivia for the prizes; if they are, they should try their luck in the casino instead.

The only bad thing about trivia on the Marina/Riviera is the place where they hold the trivia (the theater with very poor seating for this type of activity).

I agree that this theater with seats that are immovable is a bad location for this type of activity. One of the very lovely things which I enjoyed about my recent first Azamara cruise experience was that trivia was held in the so comfortable and friendly Mosaic Cafe. The ambience was perfect for this very fun activity, as well as the delicious coffees and yummy pastries.

I agree - Trivia on Regent is always held right after tea is served in the Horizon Lounge or in Gallileos. You get together for tea and then play. Great atmosphere. I am not at all sure that I would enjoy going to the theatre just to play Trivia!!

We were on the Marina for a b2b in August/September and we played Trivia in Martinis which had lots of room and the bar was close. When we first starting sailing with Oceania in 2003, we played in Martinis. Seems we've come full circle. On the "R" ships Trivia is played in the lounge whose seats are movable!! All in all, wherever it's played, you'll have lot of fun. Arlene ;)

Our current trivia arrangement on the Marina is quite unsatisfactory.

Not only is it held in the theater (as there are as many as 23 teams of 8+ players) at 4:30 but the tea is at 4 PM.

Thus if you enjoy trivia as much as we do (and have made a commitment to similarly commited people on your team), you essentially cannot have tea or have an occasional "quickly tea" - not very good.

Ther ought to be a better time and place for trivia, IMO.

The evening trivia is at 8:45PM in Martinis.

You are so right!!! No tea if you play Trivia...theater is the worse place to hold it!!!! The eening Trivia at the Martinis location was great...except we kept getting passengers walking through and "shouting" out the answers as they walked by.....Duhhhhhhh??? LuAnn

On our 14-night Regatta to Alaska cruise, trivia was held in the showroom, on Deck 5. There were loads of people. Teams were, in my opinion, a bit too large at eight people, versus six maximum on some other lines.

I am glad that trivia was held down down on Deck 5, since Horizons on Regatta was a very, very smoky venue on our cruise and would not have been suitable. Besides, I think that the forward lounge should generally be available for people to observe the view and the generally quiet atmosphere there.

I found trivia on Oceania to be enjoyable mostly because Dottie did a wonderful job of directing the activity, but I didn't care for the "O" points system, where at the end of the cruise you exchange your points for an inexpensive logo item or two instead of the instant reward of getting something for your efforts.

Except that by the nature of the beast, your instant rewards are likely to be cr**py (like a book mark or a pen). By accumulating enough Big O points you have a chance to get something a little less cr**py (like a thingy to weigh your luggage, etc) :D

I just got off of Riviera today. I played Trivia every day. It was held at 10 AM on sea days and at 5:15 on port days, always in Horizons, which worked very well. Sometimes I would just stay after tea time as our friends and we enjoyed tea time and tended to linger.

Yes, it was very competitive, as it should be, but no one is really playing for the modest prizes. I ended up, after 10 days with enough O points to get a tee shirt, but I also entered a couple of putting contests. If someone was really obsessive about points, he or she could enter croquet, shuffleboard and ping pong competitions in addition to trivia. It is really all about having fun, and on the day that we redeemed points, passengers were giving each other O cards, if someone needed a couple to get to the next gift level. I have played on other ships where the winning team received prizes each day, but really, how big a deal is a luggage tag or passport cover? Cruise director Nolen Dean made trivia a lot of fun. Our team was very competitive and never placed worse than third.
