Joline21 Posted January 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2013 Is it true that the AC in the Dining Rooms and Public Rooms on the Westerdam is very cool. It will be a shame if I have to cover up with wraps each night. Is it best to bring some tops with longer sleeves. Will that keep me warm enough, or don't I have to worry. sail7seas Posted January 21, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2013 I didn't find the public rooms too cool..... I was comfortable for two weeks aboard but definitley suggest you bring a wrap of some sort in case you don't feel as comfortable as I did. Krazy Kruizers Posted January 21, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2013 I have never been cold in the public areas/rooms on any HAL ship. But do take a wrap if you tend to chill easily.
Viesczy Posted January 21, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2013 We were just on her for the 30 days South Pacific cruise, she was comfy every night. About the only cold we felt was the thermostat in our room. You get that bad boy 1 degree past 12 o'clock and it is cold! I was going to prop open the balcony door... but then out of nowhere the cruise critic balcony door cops pepper sprayed me so I didn't! ;) Derek
tartanmum Posted January 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2013 We were on the Westerdam in Dec. 2011 and found the common areas to be FREEZING!!! We ended up spending a fair bit of money on assorted colored pashmina shawls that we could wear during the evenings.

Rare Hlitner Posted January 21, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2013 We were recently on the Westerdam for 2 weeks and found, typical of many ships, that there are warm spots and cold spots scattered around the ship (and even in the same public venues). DW has learned about 100 cruises ago to always bring some kind of light cover-up wrap on all cruises and carry it when she is wearing a lighter outfit. Joline21 Posted January 22, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted January 22, 2013 Thanks everyone for your replies. Will certainly pack a wrap in case I need one.
Joline21 Posted April 5, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted April 5, 2013 We have returned from our cruise on the Westerdam and we found all the public areas and dining rooms to be extremely cold. Everyone complained about it. I wore wraps at night all the time and a cardigan or jacket during the day. I was disappointed my lovely tops and dresses were always covered up. It would free up so much more time that can be spent on smoke and/or dress code patrol.

jaguarstyper Posted April 5, 2013 #12 Share Posted April 5, 2013 I was on Westerdam in December and thought the public areas were very cool, borderline cold. And, I am never really cold. One evening in the Casino, it was downright cold, I literally had to keep rubbing my hands together because my fingers were getting cold. If you're susceptible to being cold, you really should bring something to keep you warm, especially in the main dining room, main show lounge and casino. jtl513 Posted April 5, 2013 #13 Share Posted April 5, 2013 We find the MDR on all HAL ships to be chilly when we first go in around 5:30, but they gradually warm up to comfortable as they fill with people and activity. We've never done Main dining, but I can see that they could become too warm for our liking by the end of the later sitting.
RuthC Posted April 5, 2013 #14 Share Posted April 5, 2013 We've never done Main dining, but I can see that they could become too warm for our liking by the end of the later sitting. And how! Not only is there the additional body heat build-up, but (I swear) the A/C has been diverted to the show lounge to chill it there for the first seating passengers. Dramatically cooled. I always wear a wrap or similar, and by the end of the meal, have it removed. But it is CHILLY when we arrive at 8 pm.
