Port Rituals?

I've never been one much for cheap trinket souvenirs and I rarely buy anything. We usually spend our time outside with our cameras and completely skip the shops. I saw a really cute idea recently though that I might start doing. Collect pebbles or shells from your travels and make a craft project from each trip. Cute idea!

Please check local laws and regulations. In some jurisdictions/beaches collecting shells and corals is not allowed/illegal.

Likely dry shells from a beach are okay, but there are restrictions on bringing back this sort of thing https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1226/~/seashells,-sand,-pebbles,-driftwood-for-personal-use

Collecting even one or two shells/pebbles may seem innocuous. But multiply this by the hundreds of thousands of visitors these locations get every year and within a few years the supply may become visibly depleted.

Most shops in ports sell shells and rocks for souvenirs so it shouldn't be a problem. You just buy a few in each port, then make your craft when you get home.

I have read posts warning not to buy conch shells from shops because immigration will take them away from you.
