SNJCruisers Posted May 5, 2013 #351 Share Posted May 5, 2013 Anyone know if the Cheers program is going to be available on the 12 Baltic Cruises this summer out of Dover? Not sure that I would get my money out of it, but just wanted to know if we had the option.. thanks Yes...it is currently available on the Legend and will continue to be. Only the Fantasy Class ships and the Triumph do not have the program, all of the other ships do.
SNJCruisers Posted May 5, 2013 #352 Share Posted May 5, 2013 Generally, Carnival considers your age the age you were when you board so they should have no problem purchasing the program. You may want to go to the Carnival Facebook page and ask your question there. Mary or Mischelle should be able to give you the definitive answer. I would have to concur with Big Duck that Carnival would consider you to be 20, so your sister and her BF would have no problem participating in the program since they are both over 21 and technically you would not qualify for the program. Since you are not even 21 on day two, they may not let you participate in the program at all, but they should allow you to purchase drinks a la carte on the third day since you're 21. Otherwise, they would be setting a precedent by allowing you to purchase the program on day 3. Good luck in trying to convince the powers that be to make an exclusion for you. bbharris1126 Posted May 5, 2013 #353 Share Posted May 5, 2013 I have a question! For anyone who has been on CONQUEST with Cheers... I know it is still in trial phase and there are different rules being reported from all the different ships. What I am wondering is, on conquest, what happens when you hit the 15 drink max? Can you purchase beyond it if you are not too drunk or are you cut off regardless? Also, with the program you also get a percent off wines or drinks over $10 or in a souvenir cup. So if I purchase a bottle of wine at dinner, that does NOT count toward my 15 drink max? Or if I want a drink in one of the souvenir cups, I pay for it at discount and it does not count "against" my 15? Any help is appreciated!! We leave on May 19!!! :)

If you are talking about the DOD type souvenir glasses, they don't have then anymore.

The only fancy cups are like a coconut or a blowfish and they contain a very small, maybe 12 oz white plastic cup inside that holds the alcohol. You do get a 25% discount on any drinks that are over 10.00. Being the frugal person that I am, I could find many different drinks that were 10.00 or under that qualified for the program. Really struggling to decide if I want to get this package for my June sailing on the Glory..;) I am also going back and forth about!! I have been on over 20 cruises and during our last cruise on the Breeze in January we participated in the Cheers program and we really liked it. You're able to try new drinks that you've never tried before and if you see something that you might like and you don't like it, it's OK....just wait 5 minutes and try something else. Just be smart about it and don't order something simple like a Bacardi and Coke or a Grey Goose and Tonic. There are many stronger drinks to choose from that will give you your monies worth. The program is really worth it...the only people that have been complaining about it are those hard core drinkers that are getting cut off at 15 drinks. If they are beer drinkers, they can switch to the Foster's Oil Can and if they are hard alcohol drinkers, they can switch to Long Island Iced Teas. I would love to see someone try to drink 15 Long Island's or 15 Foster's Oil Cans.

But I don't WANT to "have" to choose the strongest drink on the menu in order to get drunk then I won't "need" more than 15 drinks! We are doing the program regardless, we have had a $700+ tab on a 5 day so I have no doubt we will get our money's worth! But I enjoy mimosas (not very strong), piña coladas (not very strong), etc and don't want to "worry" about how many I have had or being cut off after dinner! My husband would also rather drunk mich ultra or blue moon but could easily reach the limit on those and not be sloppy drunk. I am not "mad" about it either way, I just can't imagine why I. The world carnival wants to turn away money from individuals who can drink over 15 drinks, are not sloppy drunk, and are willing to pay for a few more! I know either way we will "get our money's worth" as you only have to drink a few a day to do that! I just don't understand why carnival doesn't want our money! ;) haha

I would imagine (just guessing) that its at the bartender's discretion based on the intoxication level of the guest. I could see SO drinking 15 over the span of a sea day and then paying for more if he wanted to and was "allowed" to. Guess we will find out :)

nhslb46 Posted May 6, 2013 #366 Share Posted May 6, 2013 I'm curious about recent experience with the Cheers package on the Magic....any new info? I'm especially curious about the 15 drink limit....do they cut you off or can you keep buying drinks? On the Magic, they will let you purchase additional drinks at full price after the first 15. You can ask for an update on your count from the bartender.
taszmom Posted May 6, 2013 #367 Share Posted May 6, 2013 That is very frustrating, but if it's because of your children's school schedule, you could always cruise over Thanksgiving, Christmas or Spring Break. Can't do that either. DH is the hotel biz so he has to work holidays UNLESS I dare go without him! LOL!

SE NC Posted May 6, 2013 #369 Share Posted May 6, 2013 On the Dream they stick by the 15 limit. The only day I reach 15, we were at the casino bar. I ordered a beer when the lady behind the bar came running over and said "sir...sir you reach your 15 drink limit and I need you to give me back the beer"! I had drink almost 1/2 of it. The poor girl looked like she was scared to death...like maybe she could lose her job. I felt bad for her so I gave her the beer and said no problem. I took my wife's sign and sail (she only had around 3 drinks that day), walk up to the young lady and said I would like to order a Mick Ultra. She said......no problem!!! :D Met several people who said they were cut off at 15 and couldn't order no matter if they paid full price. With the bride being close to a non drinker and me only hitting 15 once, it still was a little better $$$ wise buying the cheers deal. :p

Karmalady Posted May 7, 2013 #374 Share Posted May 7, 2013 I have been battling back and forth on whether to purchase the Cheers program or not. DH and I do tend to drink quite a bit more on ships than in ordinary life but I do not think we will get near the 15 drink limit mark. :) Our S and S bar tab is usually quite hefty. :p It seems a really good deal to me as we usually have several DOD's, wine with dinner, drinks before dinner and after. We usually buy the wine package which won't be necessary and can forget hauling wine on board as well. We are going to try this out on our upcoming Destiny cruise as we have a lot to celebrate! I am looking forward to trying new drinks we wouldn't normally, looking forward to bloody marys and mimosas. I appreciate all the good information and feed back on this program and will report as well when we return. After cruise, we will be drying out!

It isn't "can I drink 15 drinks a day", it's "do I drink more then 6 drinks a day", that's the value point. Edited May 7, 2013 by big_duck
