The definitive Cheers program Thread

Thanks for your response! I had planned to buy ahead for the very reason you mentioned but just wanted to make sure.

Some will tell you that they don't want to just let Carnival have their money before they absolutely have to.

Some others will also wait because if for some reason something happens where they need the money @ home for an emergency, it's not tied up elsewhere. Or if you miss the cruise for whatever reason and it's not a refundable fare...you could be out your CHEERS! money.

I'll probably buy it ahead of time though. I'd rather get on board and start my vacation ASAP.

I agree with both points and plan to purchase the CHEERS! as late as the website will allow me to.

Can anyone please tell me the total cost of the Cheers package including gratuity for a 7 day cruise out of Port Canaveral, Fla. Are you charged 6 days or 7? The program begins on the embarkation day but does not include disembarkation day? So confused. Just want a total price. Thanks much.

Hello,

Am I correct in saying that if you only drink beer the Cheer package is not for you. 15 beers is easy to drink in a day when you are on vacation. Are there any just beer drinkers out there and do you get the package? Thanks,

Dan :)

I drink mostly beer (Coor's Light) and yes, the package is well worth it. On my first Carnival cruise (8 day) I didn't do Cheers and would have saved $125.00 overall had I done so. A few weeks later I cruised the same ship and bought CHEERS.

For the full 7 days it's $49.95/day plus a 15% gratuity. ($57.44/day)

You aren't required to buy it on embarkation day but must purchase it by day 2 if you are going to have it.

402.15 pp for a 7 night, 8 day cruise. It's 49.95, plus 15% gratuity. The 8th day is embarkation morning. You can also wait until day 2 to purchase the program, but then you lose out on consuming alcohol during sailaway and day one happy hour when you're excited and want to start your vacation. But many people fly in the day of their cruise and after getting up at an ungodly hour, they are tired and feel they will not get their monies worth so they wait until day 2 to purchase. And no, day 2 does not start at 12:01 AM, it starts the following morning when the first bar opens up around 9:00 am for your bloody mary or mimosa. :)

I think that is where people get confused. embarkation is the first day of a 7 day cruise. and disembarkation is the morning of the 8th day and the start of the next cruise. So you are not charged for the 8th day.

Another way to look at it. Your cruise starts on Sunday at 12:00 when you first get onboard. It ends the next Sunday at 08:00 when you leave. So you are not charged the day you leave.

I believe that to plug this loophole in the system, you need to have made your original reservations with the 2 guys in the same cabin and then the 2 guys purchase the program as soon as you get on board. After purchasing, duplicate keys can be obtained or switching can occur. I don't know the exact details because it does not apply to me.

If you have already made your reservations for your cruise with spouses and husbands in their proper cabins, I believe you're SOL regarding having only the guys get the program. If you're before final payment, maybe names can be changed, but I guess it depends upon what rate your reservation was made at.

Good luck. It's worth it. Just got off the Freedom and I enjoyed about 50 drinks at the Alchemy bar, while my GF had about 30. Everything else we had at all of the other bars on board was gravy since the Alchemy Drinks were 9.95 and 80 of them over 8 days covered the cost of the program. I have not sat down and done an exact dollar count, but I believe we saved around 250 or so with the program.

You are my kind of drinker and I will infer from your post that the drinks at Alchemy are all covered by the program. That being said, I know some drinks are listed at $10.50, where those covered or not?

Also a topic I have not seen covered is the BlueIguana or Red Frog... Are there drinks served in those pubs that exceed the $10 limit (I know buckets and tubes are excluded) such as high end rums or tequilas.

Thanks

Yes, there are some tequilas such as Don Julio Reposado and Anejo that are above the limit and not covered. There is also a Margarita that's over 10, I think it's called Blue's Margarita or something like that. I can say that the Alchemy Bar was my favorite and the Red Frog Pub our second favorite. Be on the lookout for pre-mixed concoctions at the rum and Tequila bars that are pool side.

On my last cruise with Carnival (2014) I got the Cheers package. The problem was terrible wait and bar service. It seems they cut back on the servers from the decks to the shows. Long lines at the bars, and even the lounges. During the day inside wasn't too bad, but by the pools it was a long wait.

We're trying Victory in March. Has it got any better?

How was it getting drinks the rest of the cruise? That's where we had the problems.

No issues at all. He mostly used the bar at the adult pool location. There was never a line. He also used the casino bar often and it seemed to be the busiest but still never took more than a few minutes. The longest waits were in the comedy club or during karaoke if he placed the order as they came around so he actually would just get up and walk to the bar himself to get the drink and it was much quicker , no wait when he did that.

Argh! I keep going back and forth to whether or not we should get the Cheers program!!

I barely drink, but my husband likes his beers.....it makes me sick to think of potentially spending $1000 (Canadian) on alcohol (6 day Western on Breeze)......but then I don't want to necessarily be watching the account every day and possibly putting a limit on our fun....help!!!

Don't do it. Have your husband get his favorite beer be the bucket whether it be domestic or import. The best bang would be the Foster's Oil can

Since you don't really drink, if I were in your shoes I wouldn't purchase the package since both of you would have to buy it.

Instead I'd probably set aside 3/4 of what you would have spent on the Cheers package and put that towards our liquor budget.
