MDR Menu Rotation?

Recommended Posts

Are the new menus rotated in the same order on every ship? Mojo, Saffron, Jasmine, Pimento, Shiitake, Basil, Pomodoro? The Fishermans Plate in the past has been served on a formal night, is this still the case (Shiitake)? On a cruise over 7 nghts, are the menus repeated again after the first 7 nights? Which menus are served on 3, 4, and 5 night cruises?

This is what I found for Oasis Eastern. I would love to have someone who has actually cruise tell me if its right.

We are doing Allure Eastern and want to make dinner reservations based on our least fave nights in the MDR

Are the menus order the same between Oasis and Allure? I found them to be:

1....Mojo

2.... Saffron....formal night

3....Pimento

4.......Shiitake

5......Basil

6....Jasmine....formal night

7....Pomodoro

I would also like to know if the menu order is the same, for the same reason that I would like to make reservations in restaurants based on the nights.

My personal observation, after scouring the boards and making a spreadsheet of the information that has been provided by past cruisers....Jenjer's list is accurate.

Anyone contribute anything to the contrary?

Thank you so much for the information - these boards are great!!! :)

Could you make that spreadsheet a google spreadsheet that is accessible to the masses? :)

Ok Jenjer, I have seen that same listing from prior reading of Allure/Oasis reviews. But I copied a spreadsheet a while back (wish I could remember who made it and which thread it's on) According to that spreadsheet ****akke has Fishermans platter and according to both my and your research that would be offered on Day 4- not a formal night. Ordinarily on Allure and Oasis have formal night on day 2 and day 6.

Anyone have any ideas about this? or a link to the spread sheet, could it have been wrong and really Fisherman Platter is found on the Jasmine menu?

Here is a link with pics:

http://s654.beta.photobucket.com/user/clamett/media/P8050001.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0

based on this and the order is as you said, but the day 4 has the fisherman's plate. So I guess the "lobster" is no longer being offered on formal night?? Im confused!

I found the spread sheet- see Shiitake- Fisherman Plate day 4; and yet the compasses I have seen show formal night on All/OA on 2 and 6 (I also experienced this OA) I just cant figure this out?? Is is possible that the reviews weve read the folks had formal night on day 4 for some reason and Shiitake would be offered on day 6??

I found a 4 night Cruise on the NOS. It did not include the Shiitake Menu. :(

The above drop box spread sheet has a mistake _ Jasmine and Shiitake menus are switched.

So Shiitake is shrimp goya, sole, lamb, veal scallopine, conchiglioni pasta. Jasmine is the traditional formal night menu, Snow crab salad, fishermans plate, braised beef, thai chicken breast, and soy meatballs.

According to various reviews these days move around. Lots of folks report Jasmine (formal night) being offered on Day 5. So I guess the way I would plan is that if you can figure out the second formal night it will be the Jasmine menu and then the rest of the menus fill in around them with Mojo always being day 1, Saffron (first formal night) always being day 2, Pimento day 3, ****itake day 4, Jasmine and Basil menus offered on 5 and 6 or day 6 and day 5 depending on the formal night for that particular cruise. Pomodoro is always day 7.

Sheesh! We are planning to skip the MDR a few nights, so I want to make sure we arent' missing menus we want to see in the MDR;)

Jenjer, I think this is what is confusing us!!

The SHIITAKE menu items you listed above is actually the food listed on the JASMINE menu on the photo graph of the menu in the review above and the JASMNINE menu items youve listed above are on the SHIITAKE menu in the photograph. SO it appears the person who made the spread sheet switched the menus (not the days) Does that make sense?? I'm trusting the photos of the menus as a confirmed source and just thinking the person making the spreadsheet put the wrong menu under the wrong name.

So...Jasmine is offered on formal night,( 5 or 6 seems to move from cruise to cruise, tho All and OA is always day 6) but it is the snow crab, fishermans plate, tortellini, braised beef, Thai chicken and soy meatballs according to the actual photos of the menu.

Shiitake is offered on day 4 and is Chicken Caesar

Shrimp Gyoza, Pan Seared Fillet of Sole, Roasted Rack of Lamb, Veal Scaloppine Oscar, Conchiglioni Pasta according to the actual photograph of the menu.

So yup, that switch would put lobster back on day 6 Formal night, where it belongs ;-)

I didn't correct the days because there still seems to be some confusion about which menu is offered which night. But I am treating it like SHIITAKE is night 4 and JASMINE is night 6. Hopefully, someone who has traveled recently can confirm! But I'm going off the photos from the menus in the link above!

Here is another thread that is "in process" as of today. It looks like the Eastern and Western routes on Oasis/Allure have different formal nights so Jasmine is switched with Basil. The latest posts (as of today) are from night 5 (western) which is formal night with the Jasmine menu which includes Lobster.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1796326

So, Eastern has formal nights day 2 & 6, Western has formal nights day 2 & 5. Menus are Mojo, Saffron, Pimento Shiitake, Jasmine/Basil or Basil/Jasmine (depending on itinerary, with Jasmine on formal night), Pomodoro.

Clear as mud, right?

Someone did a review of Oasis-Eastern a couple of weeks ago and actually posted the menus for the different nights. I printed them out, so I could discuss with DH when we should do speciality dining.

They match exactly what Jenjer posted:

1-Mojo (Mojo marinated pork chop)

2-Saffron (Roasted Duck)

3-Pimiento (Chicken Marsala)

4-****ake (Roasted Rack of Lamb)

5-Basil (Filet & Shrimp)

6-Jasmine (Fisherman's Plate)

7-Pomodoro (Roasted Turkey)

I didn't make note of which night's were formal night, but it would stand to reason that 3 & 6 would be, since they are sea days on this route.

Hi Ann,

Its weird, but on Oasis, first formal night is always day 2 East or West, so on East it's Bahama day (but it is a short day- we leave the Bahamas at 2PM) On OA and ALL its always day 2 and day 6, rather than the traditional "first sea day". Thanks for confirming the menus, that's what weve finally come up with and we seem to have finally figured it out;)

Thanks for all of the help with this! I now have a tentative plan for my Enchantment cruise on 3/18.

I hope we get some feedback on the menu rotation on Jewel's 5 night from Tampa to Grand Cayman and Coz?

There is a recent jewel review on the boards right now. I didn't read it since it will be year before I do Brilliance on that itinerary. But mAybe there is something there? worth checking anyway!

Hi, I know that these new menus have been introduced over the past couple of months. As a repeat RCI cruiser amd looking forward to the new menus. Any reviews on how this is working out, is it seen by most cruisers as an improvement in the dining experience...

I am with you, we were really starting to get bored with the menus, I'm excited to try new stuff, and as a vegetarian, I am happy to see an entree salad, meatless pasta and more meat analog vegetarian options each night. I've never been a big " curry" fan and the Indian style options offered every night on the old menus, always felt very "British Empire" to me for the American market. I think the new menus reflect a difference in the way many Americans are eating today, vs the "traditional" cruise offerings. I don't eat meat analogs generally, but many of my vegetarian friends do look for these, rather than just a plate full of vegetables. Most American kids will try any sort of pasta, and every American restaurant has a selection of entree salads these days. JMO, but I'm excited to try it out next month!

In the past, I never reviewed food on cruises extensively because 1- I'm not a cook (in addition to not eating meat) so I don't feel terribly knowledgable to comment and 2- the menus had been around so long that doing a food review of the same menu seemed redundant. But I'm thinking I may try to do a more comprehensive food review since we will be eating in the MDR every night.

Also, we've had so many recent Allure reviews with ship pics that I was considering not doing that again.

LOL, just told my DH I am considering this, and he said " oh oh, my food photography (bad)" - except he didn't use that word, he used an S word:p  He says he's going to get a book, so he can take better pictures of food!;). So in 2 months I can answer these questions!

Not sure if this will work but I've tried attaching a menu that I hope is a correct rotation for the new menu on a 7 day Oasis/Allure Western Caribbean cruise. Please let me know if there needs to be any corrections made.

This looks right for Western. This is exactly what I have, except that I'm traveling on Eastern, so for us Basil and Jasmine are switched Basil day 5 and Jasmine day 6. But this now appears to be the correct menu items listed under the correct spices now according to the photos of menus others have posted:D

Thanks for doing it!!

DH and I just reviewed the menus, we aren't planning any major specialty meals but there are at least a couple of nights we could miss for Rita's party or to have tapas at Vintages. We rarely eat 3 big meals anymore, so we can skip on, I just want to make sure we don't miss something we like!;)

Out of interest do all the Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises start on a Sunday?

The menus posted previously all mention Sunday = Mojo, Monday = Saffron, etc. rather than Day 1 = Mojo, Day 2 = Saffron, etc., but I'm wondering what happens if you were on a 7 day cruise starting on a different day, for example, on a Friday. Do you think you would still get the Mojo menu on Day 1 menu like those above, or do you think would get the one that has been listed for Friday?

I hope we get some feedback on the menu rotation on Jewel's 5 night from Tampa to Grand Cayman and Coz?

On our January 5 nite Jewel cruise to KW and Coz the menu was:

1 Mojo

2 Saffron Key West Formal night

3 Pimento

4 Jasmine

5 Pomodoro
