Epic Disaster

Recommended Posts

j603 & plus521 - I hear what you two are saying. I can't wait to read your reviews when you return from the Epic. Have a great sailing!

I know the truth hurts to hear.

Oh I will..... :D The truth doesn't bother me.... just contradictory statements. LOL

In all honesty, I do sincerely hope that whichever cruise you sail next, you have an awesome and amazing voyage.

I think the OP is just what is known as an "Internet Troll" who stirs up debates just to see how many responses he can get for his 15 minutes of fame or in this case 7 pages.

Odds are this guy was not on the ship or this cruise and may be an employee of another competitor cruise company.

No, I think that is highly unlikely. Far more likely is a cruiser who hated his experience on the Epic and figured he'd come and do a one-shot rant about it on Cruise Critic. The most objectionable thing about OP's post is the exaggerated title, "Epic Disaster" and IMO that casts a questionable note over the rest of the review. A few of OP's complaints have some substance but most do not.

Question for JOEDEL. You used the Haven area and were not booked into a Haven suite?

we were on the same week , I guess we did not notice due to us having so much fun running around the ship in different colored togas . we also came across a woman topless sun bathing- no one made a big deal about that!!!!!. We hung out at the haven ( you can enter by the rinse shower by the front of the ship, there is a small hallway behind the shower that leads to the upper level of the haven) Why are you people paying so much for something not so big?????

That is not cool! I am asking too joedel...were you in the Haven or snuck in?

NCL needs to address this issue with that entrance way. Please NCL if you are reading either close it back to only Haven guest or put a lock on the door! Clearly you can see by this persons post people are sneaking in.

If all these things happened to the OP they should have tried to address it to the Hotel Director...and or if that didn't work address it to NCL. Clearly they no longer want to cruise with NCL any more. This Epic cruise wasn't the greatest for my family, but ALL my other NCL cruises were great. NCL has a great product...some ships are not for some people. I am very much looking forward to my Breakaway sailing in June.

The missing of Nassau has been addressed and there is nothing that can be done. All cruise lines are allowed to change itineraries and do not owe us anything. It's the risk you take.

Kinda off topic but if you treat people nicely they will do the same, I totally agree with you. Last trip to Florida we went to pick up our car rental at Budget in the garage as we have a membership with them (if you don't you have to wait inside then go out to the garage). The guy in front of us flipped out saying he is not waiting in line inside and lost it on the poor attendant. We went up and I apologized and said wow... so sorry you had to deal with that. We went from the Ford Fusion we paid 100 bux for the week to a 2012 Camaro SS V8. All he asked me was what is your favorite color.. red.. yellow or white. Yellow baby! What a sweet car!!!

LMAO we had a similar experience at budget in miami by the pier trying to drop off our car then cab it to the ship, this lady got really mad at my husband being called to get his receipt, blocked him and was yelling at the attendent, "I am a fast break customer and I need a fast break now!" Could not stop laughing at her which ticked her off

The Feb 16, 2013 EPIC cruise was an EPIC mess. I won't cruise with NCL again.

  • There was a man "jerking off" on the man pool deck. I heard about it from two different people on two different days.
  • The deck was too crowded to enjoy.
  • The main dining rooms smelled sour. Like a musty mop. A little "febreze" would have aleviated the smell.
  • Bed mattress was hard but we got an egg crate foam topper.
  • Hubby and I loved the SPA. There was a naked man with towel in the common area of the spa. He sat down and chatted with my husband. Hubby said Spa was his favorite part of ship.
  • Service in the Cirque show was terrrible. I'm still waiting for my food.
  • Specialty restaurant La Cucina was very nice.
  • Nice show in Fat Cats. Charlie Love and the Silky smooth band was very fantastic.
  • Room service was nice.
  • Romance package $139 : roses, champagne, chocolate roses, dinner at La Cucina canapes, tea service was very nice and worth the price.
  • We missed the Bahamas stop.
  • Disembarkation was a disorganized mess.
  • Hotel director said that many of the staff had moved on to the Breakaway.

I just want to say I was on the same cruise and while we experienced things like chair hogs, the staff were excellent and spoke english perfectly fine, even though it may have been with an accent. The staff did put yellow dots on chairs to police them and removed items (we witnessed a couple chair fights because of it). Although I cannot comment on the spa because we didnt use it, that is unfortunate and could have been reported to guest services.

From our knowledge the Epic docks in Nassau all the time and rarely misses port. Sorry you had a bad cruise

It happened! People were yelling because stuff was taken off chairs and people thought that it was rude or something.. I tried to ignore it...we usually sat further away from the pools to avoid that! But yes, it happened!

Too funny! We try to sit away from the pool as well - it's just not as "active". I never could figure out why people wanted to be right on top of the pool (well, unless they have little kids ... ) Glad you had a nice cruise!

I'm just curious. Had the op created the name "Epic Awesome" and gave a 100% glowing review, would they also be labeled a troll and accused of lying?

So they didn't like the Epic. So what? Why do people take it so personal?

Hi Aquahound :D Usually we run into each other on the RCI board - how are things? :)

Usually I would agree with you, the "home board" gets upset with someone who doesn't like the ship and everyone jumps into a pack mentality.

But I don't think that's the case this time. Usually if someone doesn't like Epic - this board is very good with saying "well, it wasn't for you"

This person doesn't seem to have been on the same ship as everyone else and touched a nerve.

You know the same thing would happen on the RCI board ;)

I appreciate everyone's review, we all have different perspectives even on the same trip.

That being said when you sign up with the name 'epic disaster' and your first post is to bash the epic, I can not take everything you say seriously.

As far as seeing someone pleasuring themselves in the spa, did you say something to him or stop and stare? I would have said something to him and probably laughed! I bet he would have stopped.

My mother would have definately come up with a few ad libs.

Or the X, HAL and all of the other boards. I still think the OP was trolling for his 15 minutes and now 9 pages of fame.

I will be cruising on the Epic a week from Saturday and know for sure these things:

I will be LAUGHING at any chair hogs that get their crap removed...

I will NOT be inspecting the ship for rust, mold, or dust under my bed. I don't care, I'm on VACATION!

If something does indeed bother me to the point of getting upset, I will ask the nearest cruise employee for assistance. If they don't help me, I'll move on to someone else and/or the next one. The ARE over 1,00 cruise employees on board.

Bon Voyage! (to me)

Hi Michele! :) Yea, you are right....and my post wasn't Epic specific. It was just one of those days where I was sick of everyone being so sensitive about inanimate objects. I'm back though...feeling much better! :D

Some of what the OP says is true. I sailed on the Epic this past New Years Eve.

There is no running track which is ironic given the size of this ship. Personally I don’t jog so I’m not bothered.

Internet seemed a bit more spotty than usual on a ship.

During sea days getting a chair by the pool was tough. But that’s no different than most ships.

There’s a definite downside to the design of the vessel in that you don’t see the ocean much. I missed being able to go towards the bow or have decks that opened out. This ship really does feel like a resort more than a boat.

Having said that the Epic offers amazing choices to eat. The food in general was top notch. Yes, they charge at some restaurants but being able to head to the Chinese place and have dumplings at 10pm is fantastic. The places that do charge are pretty cheap.

If you’re a gambler the Epic has the biggest casino at sea. I’m a big craps player and they had 2 tables going.

The entertainment was the best I've experienced. Blue Man Group, Legends and Cirque were terrific.

The Epic has some minor faults, but its well worth trying at least once.

Side note..much is mentioned about the bathroom configuration. Having a full sided tub with hard shower enclosure is worth the downside of showering by the door. The toilet, which is in a frosted glass enclosure is not an issue at all.

We boarded the Epic on 2/23. We had a great time, and loved the ship. I have commented to my friends that even though there were 4,700 passengers on board, it didn't seem crowded to us. We thought the food was great. When we go on vacation we expect to have fun. Sometimes life is what you make it! The crew members were wonderful - especially in the restaurants. We also liked the "weird" layout of the bathroom configuration in the mini-suite. Loved the extra large shower. Lots of storage is a bonus. We will sail on the Epic again. Thank you NCL. :)
