I have seen some posts about booking excursions directly with providers-we will be on the Eurodam eastern caribbean end of March-anyone have recommendations or experiences doing this-thanks for the info

Your best bet is to go to the Ports of Call Thread on CC. That's where we found our vendors for private excursions. Hope you have a great time.

As to experience - we primarily do private excursions for the quality of the experience. Much preferred for us in most situations.

If you're on the March 30 cruise, come on over to that roll call & join us. A group is planning a trip to St. John together, so at least you'd have an option for one port.

 

Yes, we often book with private tour operators. More often than not, we rent a car & take off on our own. We love the freedom of doing what we want, when we want, & lingering (but not too long) if we're enjoying ourselves. With shore excursions, you don't get that. What you do get with a ship's excursion is the peace of mind that the ship won't leave without you!

I prefer to NOT go through the cruise line IF there is ample time to do something and get back to the ship with no concern of it leaving without us. If we're in port 7 hours and the trip would be 6 - we either pick something else or go with the cruise.

The roll calls were very helpful in 2011. We together booked a chartered snorkeling excursion in Grand Turk. It was fabulous!
