kimanjo Posted March 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2013 DH asked me, and I did not have an answer. Why such a late departure from Dubrovnik on our May 5, Riviera cruise? I have docked in Monte Carlo, and 11 p.m. departure, I think because of people wanting to go to the casino? Santorini we left at 9 p.m. last year. Why do the ships stay in port after dark. Is there one uniform answer?
Mura Posted March 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2013 Sailing time to the next port? People want to be in town as long as possible? Frankly, I have no idea ... but those two suggestions do come to mind. Mura
Rare Dr. Cocktail Posted March 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2013 DH asked me, and I did not have an answer. Luxury ships generally stay late in ports so that 1) you can enjoy the ports after the sometimes (tens of) thousands of other passengers have left. 2) you can enjoy dinner or the nightlife in port 3) you can enjoy a port when it's not 152 degrees outside. Have an early dinner and take the shuttle or the tender into Dubrovnik at night. It's beautiful and will be a fascinating contrast to the herds that you will have witnessed only hours before. billy.qc Posted March 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2013 The proximity of the next port might be the reason. Dubrovnik was a dock port when we were there aboard Insignia a few yrs back. There could also be several ships departing and it has to do with 'traffic'? It is always enjoyable when there is no rush to return to the ship.....you could take advantage of this extended time and share an interesting tour of the countryside with fellow CC members, then dinner etc... kimanjo Posted March 9, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted March 9, 2013 I have stayed later at the ports that had late departures, like Monte Carlo and Santorini. I just didnt have the answer for DH is there was a specific "why".
paulfromontario Posted March 9, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2013 I don't know the reason. However, a couple of years ago we were there with Oceania and the captain of the ship was from there too.
LAexNY Posted March 9, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 9, 2013 It's only 60 nautical miles from Dubrovnik to the next port, Kotor, so there's no rush to leave.
wripro Posted March 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2013 Port fess are probably not that expensive or they would leave earlier and take their sweet time getting to Kotor.
