Balcony on which side do you prefer?

Right side of the ship or left if the ship is pointed to the north. Does it really matter?

Really doesnt matter, they never know which side they will dock along side a dock. its hit and miss.

I always look at the map and see what side of the ship gives me the best view of the land. It is just a personal preference but I really like to be able to sit on my balcony and see the ports as we approach. Certainly more relevant on the Med cruises where there are so many ports so close together.

Right side if initial embarkment day is on an odd day of the month, left side if embarkment is on an even day of the month. Unless there is a full moon during the first 15 days of the month, in which case these have to be reversed. Sorry, I know this is correct if initial embarkment is from a northern hemisphere port, but I no longer recall what happens if embarkment is from a southern hemisphere port.

I knew that but too bad someone doesn't tell the Carnival phone reps. When I booked my port room, she told me that was a great location; I'd get to see all of the ports from that side.

We always book port side. Like it best. We have always been lucky to see the land and dock towards the islands. I know it sometimes is different, but we've been lucky.

I agree. there's really no reason we like it better, we just do. One of those weird things you can't explain. We have been docked on that side and on some stops not been.

Yes if that is a location they are trying to get rid of, they probably do.

I had an excellent rep. We were discussing where I might choose and I picked one cabin and she had one on her screen that wasn't online and told me it may be a better choice. The one I chose was between the elevators and the doors to the pool deck. She gave me one past the elevators and told me, it may be quieter there because there may not be as much traffic as the one i chose.

I guess we'll see if she is right.

I prefer an aft balcony!! We had one on our recent Conquest cruise.

In the past we have always had side balconies, and I usually tried to find out which side was "better" in terms of being in ports. Which side saw the "pretty side" of the island, etc.

With the aft you see it all as you can see both sides. Plus the balcony is bigger, we were able to have a lounge chair in addition to the two regular chairs and small table. Plus it's quieter back there, lots less foot traffic as generally the only people that come back to the back passageway are those in the aft staterooms.

For future cruises I hope we can always get an aft balcony room, or maybe an aft wrap! :)

If you are sailing out of NYC - which we always do, take the port side balcony (or an aft) - left facing the bow.

It's about 20 min. to a half hour by the time the ship backs out of the berth and heads down the river until you get to the Statue of Liberty, so you will have a great look at NYC - the view is awesome! When you get to the point where you can see the new Freedom Tower (WTC site) head up to the highest deck on the ship. The Statue of Liberty will be on your right facing the bow. Lower Manhattan will be on your left. And you don't want to miss going under the Verrazano Bridge! It's such fun!

Happy sailing!

It's kind of like on which side of the airplane is it better to be seated? No matter which side you choose, you won't get to see everything. Maybe instead of a ship being roughly rectangular, it should be round, and those decks with ocean view or balcony cabins could slowly rotate, so that you're not in a fixed position for any length of time.
