Ship board credit

If I start out with a large ship board credit and don't use it all, can it be applied to my next cruise ship board credit? Sort of a roll- over?
No. But depending on the source of the OBC, you can get a refund at the end of the cruise.

Even with a large OBC, chances are you won't have a lot left over. It's surprising how it dwindles down to nothing.

Thanks for the responses..I know I am being overly optimistic thinking I'd have money " left over"! :p

That's what it is there for in the first place to have fun and enjoy yourself!

It will be a miracle if I don't have to pay in the end.

Items that the OBC can be used for: Any onboard charge.

This means plenty of opportunity to use the OBC:

o Princess shore excursions (unlike some other cruise lines, Princess puts the cost of these on your onboard account, even when booked in advance of the cruise)

o Daily "auto-tip"

o All boutique purchases

o All beverage purchases

o Specialty restaurant dining

etc.

The forms for the military onboard credit and for the Carnival shareholder onboard credit both say "This offer cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities." I'm not saying that all ships will enforce this policy, but it is their written policy. Note that this restriction does not apply to most other onboard credits.

Unused onboard credits can carry forward to the next cruise if it is a back-to-back. On a B2B in February on the Crown Princess out of Galveston, they did not charge my credit card at the end of the first cruise. Instead they transferred the balance to my folio for the second cruise. This would include any unused credit balance.

Usually, I don't have any problem spending the onboard credits. However, I am looking at having to spend $100 onboard credit ($50 military and $50 shareholder) this fall on a one-night Seattle to Vancouver cruise. However, my wife volunteered to take care of this problem at the jewelry store onboard :)

Yes, that is the written policy.

However, the onboard accounting software on all the Princessn ships is not sophisticated enough to do that. Any charge to the onboard account, no matter what it is for, will be subtracted from available OBC until the OBC is all used up.

I'm sure once this is pointed out here enough, princess will 'fix' it.

Just like free brewed coffee for life...

We were stopped when trying to disembark in Southampton and told we needed to go to the purser's desk. We thought ?????

So I go to the purser's desk and they tell us we have $27.87 OBC that needs to be refunded before we can depart. ;) That was fun.

We usually plan to spend every dime of it, but on this particular cruise I was too exhausted to go to dinner one night so we didn't spend the end of it (plus a little) on a bottle of wine and, thus, got stuck with a credit.
