Well, she sails from Southampton on January 10 so I don't know who does the maths at CC. I suppose if you don't count tonight as they may leave after midnight, they are technically correct.

Since the ship's departure from Red Hook has been changed to sometime after midnight, are the sailing dates now 4 January departure, with arrival as scheduled in Southampton on 10 January. Could that explain why it is now being called a 6 night sailing

Edited to add - sorry, I was typing my post and didn't see the previous comment. BTW, going by the statement by Cunard on Twitter, the ship will definitely not be departing before midnight tonight. Edited by Salacia
I don't know how "real time" the marine tracker I follow is, but it seems like she's docking now. It looks like she made very good time today to get to New York early. Hopefully those on her will not have too much of a challenge getting home tomorrow, and those planning to embark tomorrow will be able to get to New York.
I'm glad my destination was Pennsylvania and not Massachusetts or points north. We were in our car (parked at EWR) a little after 11 and by noon the Turnpikes were dry. The biggest issue I had was that the windshield washer nozzles had frozen (following the rain, perhaps) and it was getting very hard to see until they thawed.

Well The passengers will save Britannia Staterooms: US$11.50 per person per day
Princess Grill and Queens Grill Suites: US$13.50 per person per day Unless they Queue and take them off altogether at The Pursers desk, which is not
unusual ! Preferring to tip individually, mmmmmm ! Edited by Pennbank

Alternatively, isn't it also possible that since passengers could board on 3 Jan, and will be disembarking on 10 Jan, that's 7 nights on board - so, no savings to passengers on H & D charges, and no refund for a shortened voyage (even though it's 6 nights at sea, it's still 7 nights on board). Just my opinion, but I think that's the most likely scenario.

Hi All. As an avid Cunarder, Diamond member ,past tense.,
I have booked the 12 night Caribbean
Cruise from New York this January .
Great ports!!!
Having sailed in September on the
Breakaway to Bermuda, I have to say
The ship is new , well done, high tech
Great restaurants , high end casino.etc , Etc
Cunard may be ok for Europe , but
Not for Americans
Good bye Cunard , hello NCL :)

I love this easy and straight forward decisions ;)

During one of the QM2 short trips from Hamburg I shared the breakfast table on the first morning with a German couple. They had already decided for themselves that QM2 is not a ship of their liking...

Btw: the Norwegian Breakaway is build and constructed in Germany.

That's funny - I had the same 'experience' once with some people from Hamburg with whom I shared a table and who kept on complaining about the ship throughout the entire lunch session. I could not believe my ears, the more so as I have always known 'Hamburgers' to be open-minded and well-tempered, and this was also in contradiction to what a Commodore once told me about Hamburg and its citizens: No other harbour in the whole world receives QM2 with such warmth and enthusiasm, and this already for many years!

Thanks Cats! But I am not giving up QM2.
I want to sail from NY to the Caribbean , this
Winter , without flying half way around the world to pick up
The QM2
NCL has Caribbean cruises from NY
All winter on the Breakaway.
If the QM2 had winter cruises from
NY, you all know I would book at least
2!!

So would I. But 2010 was the last QM2 Caribbean sailing outside of the annual Christmas voyage. NCL wouldn't work for me as don't care for the "free style" dining and atmosphere and would prefer not to spend my money on something not to my liking. And I would rather look out at the ocean than an atrium mall from my balcony.

Fortunately there are different lines to suit different tastes and personalities.

Me too! And unfortunately QM2 will not see any Caribbean port in 2015 either, not in winter nor at any other season ... Will have to go to Asia and Australia/NZ to get away from cold winters ... :)

Hi there are balconies and suites with balconies on the Breakaway
I had beautiful sea views and Bermuda
Views from my stateroom
Free style dining is up to "you".
Again I prefer to sail than fly from my home
Port this winter
Cunard doesn't offer than option:D Edited by turquoise 6

Hi, I personally don't care for the NCL cruise style either but I can understand Tourquoise's point.

We had been paying premium prices for the Christmas cruise and after a few years I began to wonder why. The QM2 is my favorite ship and the crossings, Europe, for me, are amazing as was the Canada/NE trip in Sept. For the Caribbean, I just don't need that special feeling. We did a repositioning cruise on RC last May. Sailed out of FLL with 4 Islands and then sailed to Southampton on the southern Atlantic route. We paid less for the 14 days than we pay for a 7 day crossing on QM2 and had an absolutly wonderful time. BUT, I did enjoy knowing that I would be crossing home on the QM2. The TA on RC was simply a cruise and the crossing back on QM2 to NY was a voyage.

The people of Hamburg do indeed have a special bond with the QM2 and come by the thousands to see her sail in and out of Hamburg and along the Elbe.....but it's not about the on board experience because most have never sailed on her. It's about her stunning glory as she sails past.

I can't understand Cunards passion in working so hard to get the German market. Cunard makes special offers price wise and 18 and under sails free. The three times we've sailed round trip from NY, after Hamburg, the ship had an abundance of strollers, badly dressed teens, and a younger demographic that used the ship as cheap transportation. Being hearty eaters, KC had a hard time keeping up and the fruit had to be put out in giant bowls to accommodate all those that hoarded. The older group just seemed rather bored and nightlife was nonexsistant. We now know that we would rather disembark in Hamburg, spend a wonderful week, and reboard on her way back from Norway for the crossing home. Especially since we are not offered the German prices. The NY/NY round trip crossings were also a favorite but those are now harder to find. It's sad to realize that Cunard doesn't want us. :) Edited by brigittetom

Hi,

Sorry that you seem to believe that Cunard would not want you. Why should they?

Anyway, you may rest assured that German prices are very much higher than those in the US - sometimes double or triple depending on the route. No reason to worry!
