ricardin Posted March 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2013 I obviously realise that the majority of members on here are either from The States or Canada. Can anyone with a CC dictionary please take a moment to give me a list of the meanings of the abbreviations you use, DS, DH, BIL etc etc. I love cruising, and I love cruise critic and sharing everyone's experiences. I just feel such a plank typing everthing in full.

LuvBNatC Posted March 22, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 22, 2013 RCCL sometimes shows up as RCI for Royal Caribbean International. I think I've also seen DoD. Isn't that Drink of the Day? I agree with ricardin. Sometimes it's like reading secret code. ;)
ShakyBeef Posted March 22, 2013 #13 Share Posted March 22, 2013 Yes, DOD is Drink of the Day. And PP is Previous Poster - not the OP, but someone posting after them and before you on a thread. FWIW = For what it's worth. IMO = In my opinion. IMHO = In my humble opinion YMMV = Your mileage may vary
ShakyBeef Posted March 22, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 22, 2013 There are cabin category abbreviations, too. RS - Royal Suite RFS -Royal Family Suite RLS - Royal Loft Suite OS - Owner's Suite (This is sometimes Ocean Suite on other cruise lines. On Carnival, it can get a little confusing because their ships have Owner's Suites and Ocean Suites:p) GS - Grand Suite JS - Junior Suite OV - Ocean View BAL - Balcony PH - PortHole (cabin with little, round windows (portholes) instead of bigger, picture windows) I know there are more that I'm not remembering right now. CL - Concierge Lounge DL- Diamond Lounge
reallyitsmema Posted March 22, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 22, 2013 OBC = On Board Credit Most ships on Royal are abbreviated like - LOS = Liberty of the Seas, etc RCCL = Royal Caribbean Cruise Line The ships actually have two digit abbreviations that the cruiseline has given them. The three letter abbreviations that some cruise critic members have created become confusing because when you say LOS, you could be referring to Liberty or Legend. You get in even more trouble when you use MOS because of Mariner, Monarch and Majesty.
Rare S.A.M.J.R. You are the OP for this thread  OP can also be 'Original Post', as in... "They asked for definitions in the OP." PP can be 'Previous Poster' or 'Previous Post'. Paulxyz2004 Posted March 22, 2013 #18 Share Posted March 22, 2013 RCCL = Royal Caribbean Cruise Line While this is often used on CC (Cruise Critic) it can be misleading as some Posters also use it differently. Actually RCCL = Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is the Company that owns a number of cruiselines including RCI = Royal Caribbean International, X = Celebrity Cruises, Pullmantur, Azamara Club Cruises and a few others. Another one that Needs some context to it is TA = Travel Agent or TA = Tranatlantic. Then of course CC sometimes means Cruise Critic and other times Credit Card. Scotty G Posted March 22, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 22, 2013 RCI - Royal Caribbean International; the cruise line that this segment of CC (Cruise Critic) is about. RCCL - Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.; the parent corporation of RCI, Celebrity, Azamara, CDF, Pullmantur and a joint venture with TUI Cruises. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Caribbean_Cruises_Ltd.#section_2 RCI and RCCL are used on these boards interchangably as is the case in the travel industry. My TA manager uses the RCCL for RCI and has been in the business for years. CruisinMatt Posted March 22, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 22, 2013 OK I guess I can't win on this thread! :D  I use RCCL because I type rccl.com to get to the website. I noticed that it does redirect to royalcaribbean.com Sorry to be misleading!

JudyM Posted March 22, 2013 #22 Share Posted March 22, 2013 Ricardin, could you explain the phrase "feel like such a plank"? I gather it's not something to be proud of, but I'm wondering what the origin is, and are there social settings in which it would be inappropriate? Thanks! PS: I could have also said "TIA" meaning "Thanks in advance."
ShakyBeef Posted March 22, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 22, 2013 MD = Maître d'(hôtel) GS = (in addition to Grand Suite) Guest Services RS = Room Steward ETA - I just remembered, RS can also mean Room Service.
