I am not sure what you are referring to by the "JR" is open. If you can let me know, I may be able to confirm this for you.

Sorry, I sometimes forget folks aren't in my head when I ask questions.....Johnny Rockets. Thanks for the insight. :)

I am quite sure the "JR" was open when boarding. We felt there was enough "free" food that was very good on the ship, so I did not want to pay any more than I had already paid for food. I am 99% sure that "JR" was open on embarkation afternoon. We did eat the "free" breakfast at JR, and it was excellent. I wish we had tried the breakfast there earlier in the week so we could have done it a second day.

I'm not able to see any photos is this because in on my iPad?

I changed the name of the folder that the images were stored in using Photobucket, so I guess that was the problem since CC no longer recognizes the update to the link. I have just switched it back to what I believe the old file folder was called. Please try to see if you can see the images and let me know if it now works.

I am also unable to see any photos. The place holders say that the photo was removed.:(

Same message as I told the person above. I hope I have fixed it now.

Thank you so much for this report!!! We went on last summer with our family of 4 and both sets of grandparents--we had only been a 3 night Disney cruise before and were worried that we weren't "cruise" people and 7 nights would be way too long. NOPE!!!! We all said it was the best vacation we ever had--even with the many personalities together each day!!!

We are going back next summer and it was great to read both this and your regular trip review--I may post on there as well asking about a few kid specific questions.

One dining question--am I right in remembering that Formal Nights were Day 2 and Day 6? DH and I do 2 date nights and let the kids have dinner just with grandparents, and we messed up the order last time. We will be on the Western, but I think it's the same? We don't want to miss Formal Night with kids in MDR, so we choose 2 other days in advance.

Thanks again!

OP, question because I think I got a little confused. Which is the night the tortellini and lobster are served? Is that night 5 or 6? I had heard lobster was served the 2nd formal night which has been posted as night 6. Just double-checking because we had booked Chops for the 5th night since that seemed to be the least enjoyable menu. Thanks!

I heard too lobster was on day 6 -2nd formal on eastern itinerary. I too booked a specialty on day 4-and 5. We have early seating so figured we could enjoy a later seating these days in port.

I realized after I had finished posting that I think I got a day or so behind or ahead when doing the titles for each day. I just checked the date stamp on the photo and I took the picture at 7:41pm on March 14, that is a Thursday, so that would be night 6 of the cruise. Sorry for the confusion.

The night you have scheduled for Chops I think is the night they offer that really good beef duo for dinner in the MDR.

I did not like the food in Oasis dining room at ALL! we at in the specialty restaurants all the nights, and windjammer the last night,\. The room service food was horrible/

Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the food on the Oasis. I see that you traveled on her in July of 2012. They introduced a brand new MDR menu two months after you sailed on her. Maybe things improved immensely between your sailing and our sailing 7 months later than yours. I would NEVER personally choose the Windjammer over the MDR on any evening.

me, too!!

Unless you drink very heavily, it is hard to get your money's worth out of the package. More than likely, you break even. What is nice is the convenience of not having to sign, not having to check your account to see if it is correct, trying new drinks and discarding them if you do not like them.

I believe that the second formal night is different depending if you are on the eastern or western route. It could be night 5 or 6.

  • 3 weeks later...

thanks for posting- great info. I saw someplace the menu listed the days- Sun-Sat- is it more Day 1- etc so if the cruise starts on Friday- it would be the Sun/day1 menu- sorry know this sounds real simple- newbie here.

Leaving this Friday on GOS

Different ships may have a different order of menu. Best to check when you get onboard. The specialty restaurants will have a list of the MDR menus.

Do they use the same menus for Eastern & Western itineraries? Trying to plan Chops, shows, etc and figure out what night would be best to skip MDR.

A somewhat belated answer, but I'll bet I'm not the only one who read this review months after it was posted.

The menus are the same for both Caribbean cruises, but may be presented in a different order. I think that the order for the Eastern cruise is:

MOJO, Day 1

SAFFRON, Day 2

JASMINE, Day 3

PIMIENTO, Day 4

SHI TAKE, Day 5 - (I had to add a space or the first 4 letters were replaced with asterisks)

BASIL, Day 6

They also might scratch one of these menus to present a special one on a holiday. We experienced that on Thanksgiving, 2012, on the Eastern cruise. I think they had a "typical" American Thanksgiving dinner (and ran out of turkey). We skipped the MDR that night because of other plans. As near as I can tell, I think we missed out on having POMODORO night. I remember because I was looking forward to the Sweet and Sour Premium Vegetarian Chicken Chunks, and they weren't on the menu the night after Thanksgiving.

Thank you so much for this outstanding MDR review. Not sailing till Oct, but I, too, am trying to figure out what night to do specialties. The pictures and your comments are a huge help.

I've known people in the past who didn't like any of the food on a cruise ship. Their choices of restaurants on land explained it. To each his own.

I forgot to add POMODORO on Day 7 to the above list. It also seems to me that they may have switched a couple of days around on our Eastern cruise last year, but I'm not sure about that. I'm not planning to eat dinner anywhere except the MDR on my upcoming Nov. 2nd cruise, so it really doesn't matter to me, but I can see how it might affect those who are making reservations at the $$ restaurants.
