San Juan Taxi fares

I have the link to the zoned taxi fares. My question is can you walk into the cruise terminal with your luggage?

On the taxi link they don't mention cab fares from hotels to terminals. We are with Royal and will be at the Pan Am terminal.

The link I am referring to is:

Maybe I am just missing it?

Thanks

The Pan Am terminal is isolated and you will not be able to walk there. Will you be coming straight from the airport or from a hotel? The airport is zone 1 and the Pan Am pier is zone 4. The taxi rate between these two zones is $19 plus $1 per bag. We love cruising out of San Juan.

We stayed in the Condado area and taxi took about 8 minutes and was $17 plus the $1 per bag + tip. And yes they counted every bag.

FYI, we flew in late then night before and there is an upcharge of $1 after 10:00pm.

Ok I dont understand your question at all. There is a link "list of hotels by taxi zone" on the website you posted (just under the part where they list generally what the zones are). The pier is in the middle of no where, so you have to take a cab. It is in zone 4.

If one were to stay at the Sheraton Puerto Rica Hotel and Casino which is on Isla Grande beside the Convention Center and Isla Grande regional airport it would be possible to walk to the Pan Cruise Terminal, located where the two ships are at top center, which would be about a 1/2 mile away. A warning though, the road into the terminal doesn't have sidewalks.

I thought the taxi drivers are only supposed to charge for each bag they put in the trunk. Why would they charge extra for a woman's purse they never touch?

Or is it safer to just pay whatever they tell you and shut up about it?

Whenever we'v taken a taxi from the airport or from the cruise terminals for our many cruises out of SJ there was a dispatcher who provided us with slip of paper with the correct fare which only included the cost of driver handled bags not the carry on type if you kept these with you and did not place them behind the taxi for loading by the driver.

At hotels there isn't such service so the driver will sometimes add all bags to increase the flat rate fare. They are counting on that most people won't dispute the fare but most will back down and charge the correct fare if you do.

So you are saying that if you stay at this hotel you don't have to pay cab fare and you can walk right into the pier with your luggage?

No you absolutely can't do it...... No one does it....... I have sailed out of San Juan 10 times and have never seen anyone even attempting it.......

I don't care if you are an olympic athlete......unless you are craving a visit to the Emergency Room instead of a cruise, you should not do it.

On our last trip we were getting a taxi from the OSJ pier to the airport, and we were quoted one price by the person dispatching us from the pier. When we got to the airport the driver did inflate the rate about $2, so it just came out of her tip.

Does anyone know if there are different rates if you need a taxi around 4:30 am?

Sadie- the link says that the $19.00 charge includes up to 5 people from the airport to the pier so we would all just split that or is that each plus bags

That is total plus bags (not each).

We had a driver try to pull the each when we got to the airport. Traveling companion took great delight in arguing with the thief.... err I mean driver.

If you do run into trouble just pay him what he is owed less tip and walk away. Please everyone do no tip the thieves it only encourages them .
