Feb. Cruising

Looking at cruising next Feb with some first time cruisers who are Leary of rough waters. I'm wondering first about the Ensenada/Catalina Island cruise. Is Feb a storm season in that area? Or is there a time of year when the waters are rougher in general?

 

Basically the same question for the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

You can never be certain on cruises but those are nice times to sail each of those areas.

We have cruised the Caribbean in nearly all months including February -- sometimes we have had excellent weather -- sometimes we have had rough seas.

As for Catalina -- we only sailed there the first part of May -- lovely weather.

It is hard to predict what the weather will be like.

There's absolutely no way to predict the seas or weather. It's like asking you, will it rain in your neighborhood on May 4, 2014. I've cruised a lot in Feb and have experienced all kinds of weather and sea height.

We have cruised Mexico many times during that month and just as recent as last Feb...Also have done the eastern caribbean many times in March...go and enjoy.

I realize a storm can hit any area at any time. What I'm specifically looking for is seasonal info. Example. Where I live we get more rain in May than in July. It is MORE LIKELY. Wondering if there is a STORM SEASON for those areas and if that storm season is Feb.

February is not storm season in the Caribbean. Storm season there is June 1 - November 30 (otherwise known as hurricane season).

Do a weather history search. That is the best guide for the dates you have in mind to see what recent history shows the weather has been.

Check the average weather for cruise ports. They will tell you average temps and average rainfall. Have a great cruise. ;)
