cc editor agrees ccl's problem is its pr

I would never tell anyone NOT to sail Carnival.

However, I would also no longer actively recommend them as I used to. I haven't been on the CCL recommending bandwagon for close to 2 years now. I just can no longer stand behind the product.

That is us, as well.

We sail the Liberty on Saturday:D But, this is the first time I've been embarrassed to tell people we are sailing CCL. Three people we told-all non cruisers-replied, "you're joking." They seriously thought we were kidding. I know it's *only* 3 people, but this is CCLs target market, the new cruiser. There is NO way any of them would consider a CCL cruise because of the reputation that is in the media.

DH and I were watching an RCCL commercial and he looked at me and said, we should cruise with them next summer. He NEVER comments on what cruise line to take. He just goes with what I book.;) We have cruised RCCL, but not with the kids. I don't remember the last time I saw a CCL commercial. If they're on, they aren't memorable.

good for you that you only have had positive experiences....

I stick by my statement:cool:

I would be happy if all my experiences with Carnival were all positive. Some of us that post on CC have been through a few unexplained episodes with Carniva l:eek: I could see a change in policies around two to three

years ago.

The staff had been trained to use the word sorry for any and all problems that may arrise.

So when I read a person has had no problems with Carnival, I'm happy for them.;)

It's so brilliant it was made in regards to facts.

Your two statements;

"They also got the media to shut up about it..."

"As to shutting up the media, no it has nothing to do with a conspiracy. I said their PR folks did a great job. Meaning they managed the message."

Both are not 'Facts': they are conjecture. You have no proof that RCI or its PR agents are 100% responsible for the media 'shutting up'. Therefore, your statements are not facts.

And BTW your first statement was very vague if you really meant to say that the PR folks did a great job. It might have been easier to write it the way you did, but any confusion about your meaning rests with the writer, not the reader.

As Earnest Hemingway said; "Easy writing makes hard reading."

Yep, poorly worded. Not sure how anyone would think there would be some conspiracy such as paying off all of the media. But the discussion was about PR so....

lol...the word "sorry"...absolutely correct

yet they are "sorry" but have no POWER to correct the situation....

that is why so many seem to have issues with Carnival

Then of course there are those who ALWAYS think it is all roses and butterflies

some just don`t face reality that they have declined over the past few years...didn`t stop me from cruising with Carnival...but I will not be booking another cruise for a while:cool:

She also has said she would not recommend doing a Carnival cruise in the recent past. Since you know she says to people to not go on Carnival .. Id say its more than a pr problem she has with Carnival. pr is nothing.. telling people not to do Carnival is another.

Does Carnival pay for any advertising on this site? If they do, I would pull the Carnival ads.

And there are other people who were also there and had aft cabins or went back there who described what I posted either in posts on the rcl board or interviews on nbc and cnn. An explosion was heard. Cabins burned or ruined from water damage. A lounge burned. Flames 3 decks high that lit up the water and sky. At least 2 hours to out out. 4 hours at the lifeboats. All described by people who were there.

As to shutting up the media, no it has nothing to do with a conspiracy. I said their PR folks did a great job. Meaning they managed the message. The way they handled it caused the media to go away. But go ahead and think the post meant they paid someone off.

Your post are well said!!! I agree that Grandeur of the seas had the potential of being far worse then anything that happened to ccl. Just look at the pictures of how close the flames came to the aft balconies. The closeness of the fire to pax areas is the reason the captain sounded the general emergency alarm and mustered the guest. The aft muster stations had to be moved to the casino and theater. One news outlet made mention that Triumph guest were not mustered. Well that's because they were never in danger because the fire was contained to the engine room unlike grandeur that crawled up the aft section of the ship.

Now I give big kudos to royal and their pr team. However if there had not been the triumph and the media lynching of ccl I don't think royal would have been so forth coming with info. I think all lines including carnival have learned lessons from triumph.

Does anyone have any idea how many of those who are constantly dissing Carnival are TA's who are upset about Carnival restricting their activities ?

On the other hand, how many of those who have had pleasant experiences with Carnival are actually satisfied customers ? Usually referred to as cheeerleaders by the dissidants.

Since TAs are frowned upon by CC, I doubt there are very many. Most either keep their mouths shut and their advice to themselves, or they have moved on to other TA friendly sites. I imagine that swimming against the current gets old pretty quickly.

Cruise Critic is heavily sponsored by RCL and all its lines.. Anything that comes from her mouth about carnival is immediately dismissed by me. The management of a site such as this shouldn't be taking payments from any cruise line. You can't critique something if you are biased to one company...

We were very loyal Carnival cruisers during the years when "Uncle Bob" was in charge. Loved the food, service, professional quality shows and entertainment, supper clubs, interesting ports, new build ships, savvy fellow cruisers and competitive pricing. For years we convinced friends & relatives to cruise with us. We even owned CCL stock.

It all started going downhill for us about the time "Uncle Bob" retired. Our last trip on CCL was a generally unpleasant experience aboard Liberty in 2008. At that time we realized CCL was changing, and the only reason we continued to sail the line were the low fares. We reluctantly decided to try other lines, even if we had to pay a little more for the experience.

After some trial & error we decided that RCL best fit our needs. We have since sailed over 450 days on that line. We don't hate CCL or anyone who sails her ships. To each his/her own.

It is interesting that the recent surge in complaints about Carnival seem to be directed at Gerry Cahill. He has actually been in charge of most of the financial systems for Carnival since 1994 (1994 to 1997 as VP finance and as CFO and CAO from 1998 until he took over as CEO.

Maybe the problems are because he upset a certain group by some of the changes he made recently.

Two words for you - Costa Concordia.

CCL has the same PR problem as GM would have if they experienced a recall in their Buick brand and then one in their Chevy brand. Customers and media link these together and so GM would be seen as having had two recalls, not Buick having had one and Chevy having had one.

I'm pretty sure CCL will address the safety issues but they have a tonne of work ahead of them to repair the brand(s). Better PR and Marketing Management might just be a good place to start.

I have no idea who in theses forums are TA's I do know that Carnival has broke the straw on the camels back with quite a few people in these forums. If anything Carnival has become infamous for dissing their customers.
