winncruiser Posted June 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2013 Hi all, we will be in a full suite (yes, thank you Princess, for the upgrade offer) on our upcoming Med cruise. I understand that a complimentary dinner in one of the specialty restaurants on night of embarkation is now one of the perks of a suite. How do I go about booking this? By calling the "dine line" once onboard? But that line always rings busy, doesn't it? Thank you!

Rare Woobstr112G Posted June 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2013 You can call the dine line, but I've found that it is sometime hard to get someone to answer the phone. The MD usually has a table set up outside the CG/Sabatinis. Next bet is to go to the venue itself.....:):):) Bob
Cruiserkenn Posted June 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2013 i usually get through to the dine line, with a little patience. As others have said, it can take a bit of time. I usually get something to read or look through, and then I call several times. I have done this on the first day, several times now. If you have the patience to go to the venue, that is fine, too. Enjoy! Bon appetit!
winncruiser Posted June 15, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted June 15, 2013 thank you all for your suggestions! just hoping that they make it a bit easier for suite passengers since it's one of their new "perks"!

Rascal1 Posted June 15, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2013 We also just dropped by the Crown Grill and booked it. Nice and easy.
Husky61 Posted June 15, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 15, 2013 Either stop at the restaurant, or call the concierge. We also use the concierge for anytime dining. That way we never wait in line and always have a table for two, which is what we prefer.:)
whynotnow50 Posted June 17, 2013 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2013 Do you reserve the morning of the night you wish, or do you need to reserve on the first day for future nights? I also read that a good night to reserve, say, the Crown Grill, is the first night because it's less crowded and the service is better. Any views on whether this is true? Any views on whether this is true? If you are in a full suite definitely reserve either the Crown Grill (or Sterlings Steakhouse or Bayou Cafe on some ships) or Sabatinis on embarkation evening -- they waive the cover charge! True, but what if your first evening is an overnight in Venice? Surely dining in a Venice restaurant would be more appealing than dining onboard. It would be nice if they would make an exception under this circumstance and waive the cover on the second evening instead. Lew

Crowne Grill service is typically superb on ANY night. The Crown Grille is an upscale place to enjoy a leisurely dinner without giving a thought to rushing to get to a show or anything else. Service is intentionally slower than in the MDR, by design. If you enjoy that you will really enjoy your dinner, if not, you may feel frustrated. We love it. You may even get a call from them, asking which restaurant/time you wish to reserve. Enjoy!!

I had no problem calling the dine line on the first day. I don't know if I was lucky or not as many people call right away. I never had trouble at all on the cruise. Maybe suites get answered more quickly or maybe I was just more lucky on the dine line than in the casino.

The first thing (well almost the first thing) I do is check the Patter for the formal nights and then call the DINE line.:) Never had a problem. We usually board after 12Noon and I have called around 1ish. I think quite a few cruisers do this. Once or twice the time I wanted was already filled. Either that or we are both lucky.:D

IF you know when you want to go, reserving them the first day is always a good idea - but we have never found the specialty restaurants so busy we couldn't just walk in - let alone make a reservation the same day. I would guess the busiest nights are formal nights. We went on the first night last cruise (because we had a suite and the fee was waived that night) and the second formal night which was much busier (probably half full). Feebarn Posted August 23, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 23, 2013 Go in by in person.... have a look and choose your table too. We scored a lovely table by a window by doing that. Also get your stamp for the tombola card thing :)

Formal nights are much more crowded and therefore the experience isn't as gemüetlich. Also on formal nights there's usually something a bit spiffier on the menu.
