Lobby for a Platinmum+?

I'm platinum and I think the very best way to calculate the levels is by dollars spent. The person that does 10 cruises in a DOS or GV will spend between $50-100K, another person doing 10 cruises in an inside will spend perhaps $6-8K. Let's just do away with number of cruises and bonus points for booking early and go on straight dollars spent. If you want more points, spend more on board. Maybe the trigger for gold could be when you spent $25K then $50K for platinum etc.?? Works for me, rewards those that support NCL financially and slows down the growth of gold, platinum etc.

That ignores those who might stay in a free cabin, and spend $200k in the casino.

Or those who stay in less expensive cabins, but rent a helicopter at every port through ShoreEx.

How do you track dollars spent? If it's via the onboard bill, that misses people who pre-book & pre-pay, and it misses those who get casino comps from their onboard charges...plus it rewards those who got OBC and spent it...

SeaShark said it perfectly... it's no longer a Loyalty program, it's a Rewards program designed to promote certain behaviors which are considered beneficial.

That said, I have absolutely no problem with another tier being added. Perhaps one which provides Haven access... and free internet. Somewhere around 165 points would be a good threshold.:D;)

NCL already knows everything you spend on board, pretty much to the penny. I love the current system, however, some seem to want change and I think NCL would benefit from taking care of those that spend their money.

I don't cruise for the "freebies" I might get. We went in the beginning when we got nothing for cruising, and we go now with the "perks". Doesn't matter to us if they give us anything beyond the cruise we paid for.

Of course some would love to have Haven access, and it's available for a "small" price now.

I would tell NCL, leave it alone. From what some say, you would think there were thousands of Platinum members on each cruise. The Latitudes party is for gold, silver and platinum, so of course it's crowded. If you want an exclusive event, limit it to platinum only and see how crowded it is?

I am enjoying the ride. My issue is platinum is no longer an indicator of a loyal guest. It is now easier to attain then silver used to be. I leave next week for b2b 24 days. Those 2 cruises alone would make me platinum under the current program. Under the old program I would still be bronze.

I don't think those of us who have issues are looking for more perks but reasonable recognition for the business we have chosen to give NCL. A picture frame is not reasonable recognition for 500 points

Didn't you and others benefit from being able to achieve points under the current program to have the number you have? It seems that some think it was okay for them to easily become platinum, but not for others.

Not looking for more perks? The OP said he was "longing for the more intimate Latitude Platinum party". In other words, I want to be with just a few other special cruisers, who gained a lot of points under the current program.

Keep the program the way it is, so everyone can enjoy the benefits.

just wanted to say... I finally received my "Pleather Atlas"!!

Woo Hoo!!! :p

Me, too! We achieved our 250 points last December and the books arrived in August. Actually, my husband and I both received them on the same day. Hmmmm.... I guess that means there is one for upstairs and one for downstairs...but what happens when we move to a ranch-style house? ;):D

I had over 250 points when the program started. Earned platinum the old fashion way with 14+ cruises years ago. I think it is great that so many can gain the perks now so quickly. Good for them. The problem is as you point out it is not sustainable with everyone enjoying the benefits. You get 400-500 platinum guest on a cruise that are entitled to concierge services it is just impossible. None of us are looking to take anything away from those earning platinum under the new plan but simply ask for something more then a picture frame for being 7x platinum

As far as numbers they grow like weeds every month. First cruise as platinum there were 4 of us. Cruise in January of this year 370. I can in fact see a day in the not to distant future with 1000+.

Then contrary to what you said, you are, in fact, looking for perks (something better than a picture frame).

I think I wouldn't have a problem with a new tier, if those would just say that they think that after 200 or 300 or 500 points there should be a new tier, but for those to say it is too easy now, it just rubs me the wrong way. I think it is pretty hypocritial, since many got all or many of their points the same way.

OK, but in your example, NCL is going from a ship with 4 Platinum-level repeat customers to having one with 1000+ Platinum-level repeat customers onboard.

I don't see how NCL is going to consider that to be a sign that the program is broken and needs changed!

Len use your brain. They can't keep the same perks in place with a 1000 platinum onboard. The concierge can't even answer 1000 calls a day. They would have to close the Bistro to only Platinum cruisers. No way they could accomadate that many at the VIP cocktail party. Priority embarkation, disembarkation, and tender service would be the longest lines. The wonderful perks they have created will collapse.

Do you really think that every Platinum cruiser calls the concierge every day?

What you're saying makes perfect sense. We had barely earnd our platinum status the old way (number of cruises) when NCL came out with the new program and there weren't that many of us compared to now. I fully expect the rewards to be eliminated or heavily scaled back with the exponential growth in the tier levels. It simply cannot be sustained as the numbers continue to increase so rapidly. A shame.

No I don't but twice a week a week at 3 minutes a call to take it, take some action, and call back translates to 100 hours of concierge time and they still have their primary job to take care of the suite guests with only 68 hours remaining if they never slept . If they called everyday that would be impossible with 1050 hours in a 168 hour 24 hour a day week

The Bistro on the Dawn holds 86 passengers assuming all tables full. Two seatings a night 192 platinum guests. 7 night cruise they can just handle 1000 platinum cruisers.

Assuming that everyone has to attend the same party, and assuming that everyone calls the concierge, and assuming that everyone wants to go to the Bistro...yes.

I think NCL would be thrilled to have 1000+ repeat guests on a sailing. Sure there might be a line for priority disembarkation, but it is priority disembarkation not front of the line disembarkation....as for the perks...eventually people will tire of them, this will give NCL an excuse to drop a couple of the perks and replace them with new ones. New things make people happy.

I still don't see how the current program is a poor business decision. They need to please lots of people multiple times...it isn't a good business to create special favors for a tiny minority.

FWIW...My Jewel sailing in 2009 had 1400+ latitude members onboard. NCL managed this number just fine. The only noticeable change was that they split it into two latitude parties.

I called the concierge yesterday and my call was answered immediately. Maybe a slow day!!! I really don't think the number of calls to the concierge is really a good reason to create another tier.

Very well said!

I think some just want to be segregated from the rest of us.

I am not going to debate you time will tell. The program will change or collapse :(

I think we've already seen the "access to the concierge perk" dwindle. From the get go the phone number given out is not the same number given to suite passengers...recently I've seen Platinum passengers report that they were given no concierge contact info in their welcome aboard packets. I guess I'll see for myself next week!
