Royal Caribbean should look at the CC homepage poll

Thank you for the link! That's an interesting read. August 1st seems too soon though - maybe an August 1st annnouncement of a policy change for the future? When RCI makes big policy changes like this one don't they usually give a lot of notice before the new policy comes into effect in order to give pax the option of cancelling or changing their reservations?

I hope it's true but we'll see.

When RCI makes a big policy change that they know will be controversial they usually provide no notice at all. Most of us find out about it when someone comes back from a cruise and posts about it here.

Too true. However I would think that if this policy change was true, they would have to give a significant amount of notice so that the folks that booked with the expectation of being able to smoke on their balcony would have the time to change their cruises without penalty.

You are thinking too rationally and not like RCI Miami. Would you rather have a bunch of cancellations or a bunch of surprised people aboard the ship? The unhappy people will be screaming at Guest Services not the folks in Miami. And since these people who don't like the policy are not likely to book again Maimi might as welll get one last cruise out of them.:p:D

Has anyone noticed that the OP started this thread and never returned?

Also, this is the same poster who posted a while back, that she peed in the hot tub, because she did not feel like walking to the bathroom. That was a confessions thread that was deleted.

I rather cruise with the smokers. FYI, I don't smoke.

Almost half of cruisers have a problem with smoking balcony neighbors.

Wake up RCI! When I pay ten thousand dollars for a suite, I don't want smoke in my face during breakfast!

The problem is what kind of sample do you get. I have posted polls on my threads and am sure that they don't reflect a large portion of even CC members on a particular board. Most people that I met on cruise have never heard of Cruise Critic. I never saw the poll that you are referring to. So, 50%??, maybe of those who took the poll and not who sail. I never noticed smoke on my balcony, I might have been fortunate (not complaining).

I remember that thread. I'd rather have smoke on my balcony than pee in the hot tub too.

Former smoker here.

Really?

They announced the no smoking in cabins in July to be effective the next January.

They announced the no Diamonds in the CL in March to be effective in July.

My issue with being next to a someone who smokes on their balcony is that cigarette smokes triggers migraines for me. So it is difficult for me to handle the smoke. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't mind if RCCL doesn't. However, other cruiselines drill into you that you are NOT to through your cigarette butts over the side because they can fly back and cause a fire. This is kind of disconcerting to me.

In response to the Original Post:

I am one who hates smoking with the best of them. I grew up around family who smoked ALL time. Everywhere I went, homes, cars and clothes smelled like an ash tray. I absolutely hate it.

However, that being said, you roll the dice on buying a balcony stateroom with the knowledge that your neighbor may be a smoker.

And if RCCL takes away the smoking on balconies, where else are the smokers going to go? You'll have one giant smoke stack on the pool deck. And what's left over will cloud up the casino. It's just not practical. In my opinion anyways.

It seems to work fine on Celebrity.

They denied there being a charge for Johnny rockets for weeks after it had been instituted.

Ten thousand dollars !! You have been robbed !!:)

We paid more than that for the Royal Family Suite in May. There were 6 of us. Two of the six people were smokers (AFT middle cabin). The cabin next to us also had family members in it, so in effect we had three bedrooms and a living room for 8 people. It was really nice. All together we paid about 13k for the balcony cabin and the suite.

True, but I remember the hullabaloo when it was announced. Smokers complaining Celebrity would collapse as all the gamblers would leave, and that smokers were the biggest spenders...
