Royal Caribbean should look at the CC homepage poll

Recommended Posts

I am currently in Oasis- room steward told me there would be no smoking in balconies by September. Not sure about the first official date though.

OMG I hope this is true!! Please please please be true!

I will only believe it when it's official though. Hoping.

That's the second time I've read this on CC, unless you posted this a week or so ago.

Bob, I had heard that it would be effective August 1st. Someone over on the D and D+ board posted that they had heard it as well. Must hae been postponed a month if it is true. Time will tell.

I would love it if it turns out to be true, but I cannot believe they would do this with such short notice. Not fair to the folks who expect to be able to smoke on the balcony and are past final payment date.

I agree. I don't remember how other lines handled it when they stopped it.

Three weeks ago today, I was told it would happen on August 1. It seems strange that RCI hasn't made any official announcement about this.

Since they still would have someplace to go smoke RCI apparently doesn't think this will be an issue. IF they even stop allowing it. I believe they'll stop it but what do I know? ;)

I'm sure there was a time when people didn't think airlines would stop allowing smoking completely on planes. After all, how could people go that long without a cigarette. :)

I agree. I think if RCI is going to change they will put a date at least three months out. I don't smoke but they need to be fair about this. Looks like Celebrity announced their changes in April and made them effective in October of that year.

I despise cigarette smoking with every fiber of my being, and it does keep me out of the casino . . . But I've never had a problem with a neighbor smoking on the balcony. I've also never had a person in real life mention such a problem.

I find it hard to believe that half of all cruisers have had problems with this.

I've had problems with it more than once. I've had people who go out and start chain smoking so early in the morning that my balcony hasn't been usable. I've had some who smoke so much that my room had the musty smokey odor upon entry even with the balcony door shut. Although the majority of our cruises haven't been affected by smokers on the balcony.

On our first cruise we had pot smokers on the balcony next to us.

You have been very lucky. If most people haven't been affected by a neighbor smoking on their balcony, that would tend to show that not many people will be affected when/if they stop allowing it.

And that only took a federal law...

My biggest cabin balcony pet peeve is ___.

Not having enough space: 7.30%

Late-night partiers: 5.86%

Neighbors smoking: 44.70%

It's a balcony; I can't complain!: 42.13%pixel.gif

Total Votes: 1,246

Everyone should note how the question is asked:

- My biggest cabin balcony pet peeve is ___

The people who have a problem with space or partiers might have problem with smokers - it's just not their biggest problem.

Even the people who states they can't complain might have given a different answer if the question was asked differently.

The question should be:

– What's your opinion about smoking on the balcony?

A. It's fine the way it is

B. It should be banned completely

C. It should be restricted to one side of the ship

D. It should be restricted to only a few top floors

That poll would give you some direction of peoples actual feelings about balcony smoking.

Just saying.

Colorado - We're former smokers, and we agree.

I'm wondering if the 'announcement' of the ban is what is going to happen on 8/1?

It doesn't mean they haven't experienced it. It means they haven't been affected by it e.g. the smell wasn't blown back to them when they were there and/or it didn't concern then.

It could still mean many will be affected, although I haven't seen any stats to say either way.

Nice try of twisting, but wrong. I´ve never had a Problem, have never been affected by a neighbour Smoking on their balcony. That however does not Transfer into I never had smokers on my neighbour balconies. The truth is I´ve had lots of smokers on balconies next to mine, but despite me being a non-smoker as well as someone disliking smoke at a max I never had a Problem on the balcony.

As much as I am against Smoking I say the policy is great as it is and I make it a Habit to put it on my comment Card every cruise.

IMHO smokers have every right to have their cigs. in designated Areas and balconies are a perfect fit for that.

Me too, I think everyone should have a chance to choose for themselves.

I agree with this statement, although in a different way than you meant it. I think everyone should have a chance to choose for themselves whether or not to be exposed to smoke. If you're in your own private area of the ship (ie your balcony), you shouldn't be exposed to other people's smoke.

I'll go there ............. again.

The smoker has the right/permission to smoke on 'their' "own (paid for) private area of the ship ... ".

Until that's changed, this argument will go on and on, blah, blah, blah. ;)

I agree and I have e-mailed RCI and asked the question as we will be cancelling if this is the case. Will let you know when I get a reply.

Still not fair in my opinion. Our cruise is 11 months away and we booked a balcony on the understanding that smoking was allowed.
