But what's inside? We have been told that the beans are decoration only.

They had those machines on my legend cruise in May and the beans did decrease as the machine was used, same witht he hot choc powder, I saw them refilling them too. May not be the best quality beans but the coffee was way better than in Princess's HC.

I am looking at the brocures on Coral and Island Princess. I don't see the Int'l Café or a Coffee Café on either. I am an early morning riser. Anyone know where I would find brewed coffee?

Island doesn't have one; Coral does. It's smaller than the others and located adjacent to the casino.

Your brochures are a little out of date. The IC was added to the Coral at her last drydock. The Island is due to get the same feature added at the next drydock - Oct/Nov 2014. Before then. specialty and the brewed coffee is available at the Pâtisserie on the Plaza Deck.

Happy drinking. Andy

Is there a way to add this card (and the USP for DH) through the cruise personalizer?

No, all the Gifts & Services are ordered by calling or faxing with a credit card. Or buying 'em on board of course.

If you buy a card ahead of the cruise, how is it charged and delivered? I know Princess does not charge the excursions till they are taken. Would be happy to saver the $2 but wondering mostly about the delivery system. Sue

We received a coffee card as a gift. There was a card that had to be exchanged for an actual coffee card. This is billed when purchased.

I just ordered a coffee card for an upcoming cruise. I called Princess, they took a credit card number and said the coffee card would be in my cabin upon my arrival.

We received a voucher (we were told the same!) Also, we had booked a 14 day AK cruise that was actually 2 seven day cruises. Before buying, I wanted to make sure that the coffee card (for the unlimited brewed) would be good for the entire time. I was told yes and that my cruise card would be issued for the 14 days. Well, once onboard, the cruise card was issued for the first 7 days only. I was concerned that the coffee card would have a problem since they are issued with an expiration date now. I had no proof we were onboard for the 14 days with me. When I went to exchange the voucher for the actual coffee card, the person working didn't put any expiration date to allow for the second leg.

Whenever a cruise is sold as a B2B, each leg gets its own cruise card. Your first cruise card would have only shown the 7 day cruise and that was your proof that you had been on the first leg.

  • 1 month later...

This has been a great thread and convinced me to buy a coffee card for the very first time. I know from reading the posts here that the gratuity is included when you buy the card, but does anyone also tip a little extra to the barista making your coffee?

This is what's available:

Espresso

Macchiato

Cappuccino

Cafe Latte

Caramel Latte

White Chocolate Latte

White & Milk Chocolate Mocha

Vanilla Bean Latte

Hot Chocolate

Premium Tea

Fresh Brewed Coffee

With the card you get unlimited fresh brewed, hot chocolate and tea. No punches. My husband gets the Caramel Latte; iced. Or the Mocha; also iced.

I generally wait until the last day and then hand him or her an envelope (mostly because I get my mocha at the same time every day and so it's almost always the same barista every day). If I were to be served by someone different every day, I might start carrying the odd dollar bill and tipping daily. As far as amount, I tip $1 at Starbucks so I figure somewhere around $1 per day is reasonable, adjusted for the quality of the drink/service. On a 5-day cruise, I tipped precisely $5; on a 15-day cruise, I tipped $20 (because the barista on the Coral was exceptionally quick and made excellent mochas!).

Thanks! What would be an appropriate amount?

If I get one that draws a triple espresso but punches one hole in the card, I believe that's earning a dollar per. But I won't tattle to mgt. in case they'd frown on the under-punching.

Wife is diabetic. We will bring sugar-free flavorings (like Caramel and Hazelnut, since the IC usually has no sugarless syrups) and if a barista cooperates thereby making DW's voyage happier, I will be VERY appreciative by the end...

Thanks, I wasn't sure but I sort of did the same last year on Ruby Princess with my Unlimited Soda and More sticker when the same barista at the IC was my go-to guy for my diet soda. He turned out to be one of the nicest staff on the ship and every time he saw me coming just smiled, said I was one of the friendliest passengers he had run across all week. At the end of the cruise I tipped him extra. It would be nice if he transferred over to Royal Princess.

Sounds like my kind of barista. Maybe my first time using the coffee card I'll get so lucky! :D

It's a personal decision, but I gave $5 to my favorite barista at the end of the cruise.

By the end of my cruise maybe a fiver or a ten-spot will do the trick depending on how things go during the week? ;) I guess I'd better tip on each leg of the B2B just in case they get re-assigned or the leave the ship for a holiday back home.

Can those of us in the UK buy the coffee card prior to the cruise? I know not everything is the same for different countries so thought I would ask. Thank you.

Also we are doing a B2B but it is booked as one cruise with a single cruise number, not two. Would one coffee card run over into the second part of our cruise for the brewed coffee in this case?
