Embarkation Lunch in the Dining Room

Our experience is that the embarkation lunch can be one of the best meals of the cruise. Do they do it on the smaller ships, Pacific or Ocean Princess - headed out of Dover in a couple of weeks and would like to know if its worth boarding in time.

They had it the last time we boarded the Pacific Princess.

:)Hi

Every Princess ship serves lunch in one of the MDR on embarkation day, no matter what the crew that greets you says. They like to send people to the Buffet. We have never gone, always had lunch in the dining room.

They serve from 12:00 to 1:30, we always board early no matter where we are. Forget about their suggested boarding times. Get there early.

Enjoy

yup the sign outside the MDR says 'closed' but we walked in anyways and had one of the best meals of the cruise.

No doubt those that actually were stopped by the sign were confused when we walked out after lunch. It pays to know one 'of those secrets they don't tell you' even though it really isn't a secret...more like a little known fact and maybe the staff don't want to be busier than the few that do know about it.

Actually, the dining room open for lunch is now listed in the dining section on the last page of the Patter. We have only had one time on 10 cruises since 2009 when the DR wasn't open for lunch. That was last fall on a 3 day coastal cruise from Vancouver to LA. There was no DR listed on the back page of the Patter and, except for the Maitre d' sitting at a table in one DR, both were empty on the Coral.

Secret or not, that is really poor to post that the MDR is closed and still serve those who bypass the sign and walk in. Either it is closed, closed for a special event (B2B lunch) or open.

Same as on NCL. Always directed to the buffet, but we make our way down to the main dining room. Never been denied. (in suites with NCL, we were sent to Cagney's)

-as an aside, do suite guests on Princess sent to Sabatini's?)

Since they started posting the daily Dining Guide on the back page of the Patter in the second half of 2011, we have had no problems with lunch on embarkation day. The DR that was listed in the Patter has been open and we have been welcomed, at least on the Sapphire, Golden, Island and Emerald :) Once or twice before that, the DR door was closed but once inside we were welcomed. We haven't seen a closed sign on the 10 cruises we have take since started offering lunch in the DR to everyone.

Sabatini's is NOT open for lunch for anybody. The only exception, apparently is on the Royal (and next year the Regal) where Princess has stated that it will be open on Sea Days. No one has posted a menu or cost as if yet.

Would you please email me at spoct7 at att dot net.

I have some Google doc questions I would like some help with.

Thanks
