Using OBC for gratuities?

Hello everyone, I hope you had a nice weekend!

Want to make sure I have this right:

To use OBC for gratuities I need to cancel the pre-paid gratuities (I call X), then once on the ship (day 1?) I go to customer service and have them reinstated? That way they will be charged to the "room" which my OBC will pick up?

Is that right?

Thank you in advance :)

As long as you don't have select dining, you can choose whether or not to put gratuities on your reservation before your trip. I chose not to, because I wanted our OBC to cover them. I did not have ask for them to put them back on. There was an automatic daily gratuity added to our account. If you have select dining, I do not know of a way to accomplish paying the gratuities with an OBC.

If you do not prepay gratuities this service charge will automatically be added each day to your account (it sometimes takes a few days to appear if you check it onion your tv) - you will not have to go to guest services to activate this, it is automatic. So long as your OBC is not coded as not being permitted to go towards gratuities (this is very rare, nearly all OBC's can go towards this) you are all set. Keep in mind if you opted for select dining you will not be able to cancel your prepaid gratuities.

If you booked thru a travel agent, you can't call X to get service on your booking. The TA has to do that. If you have "select" dining, you have to pre-pay gratuities. There's no way around it. Use the OBC for a nice couples massage. :)

You can also use the OBC for excursions, speciality restaurants, and gift shops which will include jewelry and liquor.

As long as you do not use Select Dining, you can apply your OBC to gratuities.

Thank you! Now if there was a way to get more OBC! :D

Maybe you could "hint" to family and friends that they can give you a wedding gift of onboard credit !!! On Celebrity's web site go to- "Shop Celebrity"-"Gifts by Celebrity"-"Onboard Credit"-"Shipboard Credit". They can also buy you spa credit, specialty restaurant credit, casino credit, and bar credit but with shipboard credit you can spend it wherever you wish. BTW, enjoyed your review and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

GREAT idea :D I had no idea you could do that!

Thank you for the kind words :)

After spending (no exaggeration) 5 hours today on wording for the wedding invitations I cannot wait for this honeymoon! I thought we had the wording all set, run it by everyone... dad doesn't like "honor" mom doesn't like "company" fiance doesn't like anything with "joy" in it. Geeze people! We went back and forth over 3 lines on the invitations for hours!

It's all good :p

You should have run it by us first! :D

Ditto. :) Also, my husband and I were in Paris in May and thought of you and your fiancé when we viewed the Eiffel tower at night from our apartment. ;) Your review was a big help to us on our cruise.

Haha would you like to weigh in on the "honoUr" and "favoUr" debate too?

Seriously, I felt like I was writing a second dissertation!

Awww how nice! Thank you :) Love your pictures! That is awesome you had an apartment, and with a view. One day I want to go back a spend a week or two and rent an apartment.

The apartment was the way to go! There were 4 of us (apartment had 3 bedrooms) and much less cost to rent for 4 nights (we left the afternoon before staying the 4th night to take the train to Venice) than to book 2 rooms in a 3* hotel for 3 nights. ;)

Did you rent through tripadvisor? Do you recall what part of town it was in? We are going to Paris next year with another couple, and would like to rent an apartment.

Wow! Where did you book this from? Not sure if that is allowed on here or not but I would be interested for the future!

Tom, I will send you a private email on the details.

Ashley, is there a link through your Blog that I can send an email to?

We rented an apartment in Paris as well with great success. Loved the area (Arr 1), close to the Louvre, Notre Dame and public transit with plenty of shopping and tons of cafes and restaurants. We especially liked that we were able to pay everything with a credit card (including the deposit) as many others we looked at required a hefty cash deposit as well as the entire rental in cash. With all the stories of theft and pickpockets in Paris, I didn't want to be carrying that much with me. If you google "my paris visit" it should be the first hit. We rented the #150 Beaubourg Terrace Suite because it had a little enclosed patio but there are many others. The company was very easy and professional to deal with. I definitely plan to use them again for our next visit.

OK, emails sent!

urkidn - Our apartment must have been close to yours as we were about two blocks from the Louvre on one side and a block from Notre Dame on the other. :D Not the same company, though, we were also able to pay by credit card. The other plus is that the company is US owned.

OK, I think we got a little off subject, so I am bowing out of the thread. ;)
