Karysa Posted April 17, 2014 #126 Share Posted April 17, 2014 We don't. Finding our stateroom has never been a problem. I wasn't aware it was an issue for some, although I guess I could understand it being a problem for an unescorted child or some elderly folks. We never allowed our teen DD's to decorate their cabin door. We never wanted them to draw attention as to which cabin was theirs.
O2Cool Posted April 17, 2014 #127 Share Posted April 17, 2014 Some of the people here need to lighten up  If you don't like door decorations, don't decorate your door !! For those that do like them, have a Blast with it. I love to see the creative ways that some people come up with to make their cabins unique :D. I don't see why more people won't just live and let live when the thing being discussed has no impact on their lives other than not agreeing with their own personal opinion of tacky. Maybe because some of us prefer to not have to look at a magnet factory barfing all over the doors in the hallway as we pass. Decorate your room al you want, we don't need to see it. But we don't have a choice in the hallways.
reedl Posted April 17, 2014 #129 Share Posted April 17, 2014 My memory is perfect, and I have no issue remembering numbers at all (I am a software engineer so I need to remember numbers and other random bits of data anyways). On RCCL, the last digits of the cabin number are printed on your seapass card anyways, so if you can remember which deck you are on, then you can find your cabin. Maybe I am not a social person, but I never seem to meet "new friends" on a ship, and furthermore, I really do not want other people who I do not know in my cabin anyways. Also after a day or two, I know where my room is purely by the path taken to get to it. I have a very good visual memory, so I can remember where something is as long as I have been there before. I really do not want my door "standing out" anyways.

Are political statements ok? What about Pro life pictures like the one's that adorn our city buses? What about religious symbols on an Easter cruise or is the Easter Bunny the only thing that would be allowed? I never thought about the need to decorate my door before but you may have given me the notion to do just that.;)

CruisingAlong4Now Posted April 17, 2014 #133 Share Posted April 17, 2014 The only times I have seen doors decorated were in assisted living institutions where they lessen the confusion for the residents.

I have no problem if someone want to plaster their doors with stuff, but I find it to be somewhat sophomoric in nature. On our last cruise, one couple changed their door every single day on a 14 day cruise. Why???? Just kind of immature to me. And I agree, you don't want to advertise kids being in a cabin by themselves.

We are discussing door decorations, not politics, pro life or religious symbols. I have never decorated my door before, but I think I will have to take a trip to the magnet factory with a bottle of ipecac before my next cruise just to watch the uptight anti decorating people on this thread foam at the mouth.

jaybird from SC Posted April 18, 2014 #137 Share Posted April 18, 2014 I agree...It is fun to do the door. We always try to bring something representing our state or locality. We like to decorate for holidays and special occasions. Like someone said, those halls get long and boring and I'll admit that at times I have gone right on by my cabin. So now I discreetly decorate the door.

Krissica Posted April 20, 2014 #139 Share Posted April 20, 2014 We have never decorated our door, although we have seen some decorated. Definitely isn't needed for us to find our room, that's no problem. However we will be cruising for the first time this year during a "holiday" on New Years Eve, so for fun we may bring some sort of decoration since we always do it up big during holidays. ducklite Posted April 20, 2014 #141 Share Posted April 20, 2014 A 2011 thread worth a visit: Consequences of careless cabin decorating. Interesting. I'd be livid if my cabin had that residue all over the walls. And yes, I would want some sort of compensation for having to look at HOHOHO on a spring break cruise. I expect my cabin to be in good condition barring minor wear and tear. That is not what I would consider minor.

BeatySC Posted April 22, 2014 #144 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We have a yearly cruise in the Fall with family and friends, we print out signs to put on each member of our party's door. This allows us to know where everyone is in case we don't have a list with us. We've also printed funny signs, such as "If the ships rocking, it's our fault" and "If we're making too much noise, they have earplugs at guest services". Making memories with family and friends, that is the main thing.
Michael P Posted April 23, 2014 #145 Share Posted April 23, 2014 A few months ago DW and I did B2B cruises as the first part of a five week global honeymoon. On the first cruise I surprised her with a cute "just married" doorhanger, and she loved it. Since I had ordered decorations for the stateroom as a surprise, I figured that the door decoration would complement that. In general though, I feel that door decorations such as pictures, magnets, "funny sayings", etc., are pretty tacky, although I have no problem with it, and certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it (live and let live). I don't mind seeing them, I just wouldn't do it myself (aside from that honeymoon situation). As a few have pointed out though, there are some great exceptions, like New Year's Eve, or Halloween. I especially feel that Halloween door decorations would be so much fun. Sent from my iPod touch using Forums mobile app
aideek2000 Posted April 25, 2014 Author #146 Share Posted April 25, 2014 I believe decorations are a way to celebrate special occasions and being on a cruise is a reason enough to celebrate. So why not show your creativity by having a door decoration. Sent from my Le Pan S using Forums mobile app
LaraTiara Posted April 25, 2014 #147 Share Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) Never planned to decorate, but my festive work colleague made this one for us to use on our most recent cruise.. A little silly, but not adhesive, and it had our steward laughing! Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited April 25, 2014 by LaraTiara
