abitaturbodog Posted September 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2013 We're trying to decide whether to book a Bahamas or Western Caribbean cruise for the week of Thanksgiving. Last time we were in the Bahamas, it was December and the water was very cool and uncomfortable to snorkel. What are your experiences with the water temps in the Bahamas at Thanksgiving? Is it worth it to spend the extra $$ to do Western Caribbean and guarantee warm water, or take a chance on Bahamas and put the cash toward my bar bill? It can vary, Water depth and how many cold fronts have came down from the north. But a very realistic range would be 75-80 degrees. I think this is chilly. it will be much warmer farther south. Bahamas weather can and will vary November through March. It can be darn cold in fact although not the norm. I'd go Western anyway
dappledumpling Posted September 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2013 i would go carribean.... bahamas can be pretty chilly at thanksgiving.. That statement only applies to us living in the south.. if you are from the northern lands than it should be fine We have gone twice that time of year and just stayed away from beach activities Rick

I'd go Western anyway How true! Honestly, it does get quite chilly in the Bahamas at times. The Western would be our choice. LuLu ~~~~

jgrif102 Posted September 1, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2013 We usually always cruise between November and December, and we have never had a problem with it being chilly. During our trips to the Bahamas, it's usually been in the upper 80's, sometimes warmer. Although, I do agree, the Western itinerary is much better than the Bahamas. canjay95 Posted September 2, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I've been Western and Eastern and would have to disagree about Western being better. There is not another beach anywhere I've been as beautiful as Half Moon Cay. I love both routes, but if you get a chance to go there, you should! As for temps, I was in the Bahamas in November once and we swam, but it was chilly, but so was Cozumel in January. JohnSpo Posted September 2, 2013 #9 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I'll be on the Splendor to Florida/Bahamas in Jan 2014. Does anyone have any experience with Bahama water temperatures in January. Thanks.
MrBanana1240 Posted September 2, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 2, 2013 On my 3 past Thanksgiving cruises the water has been very warm and delightful. This year we are sailing to the Western on Glory. Loved the itinerary. Try the Western.

Minneapolistraveler Posted September 2, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2013 We always travel Thanksgiving week, and in our experience the caribbean is nice and warm that time of year. We chose the Western itinerary over Thanksgiving. Good luck and happy sailing! Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Greysea74 Posted September 3, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 3, 2013 What about the weather in December for Little stirrup Cay? My Fascination cruise goes there, is there anything else to do there other than water activities?
