BV8818 Posted September 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2013 Hello, I am planning Alaska trip for wife's parents. Based on schedules, looking at a cruise in late May/June. Right now looking at Princess that leaves 6/4 and arrives in Whittier (7 days). My question - looking to find good spots for the salmon runs. I know later in the year is better, but looking to find 1-2 places that they can see salmon around the first week of June. Don't really want a fishing charter, looking for for places (rivers/streams) that they can view salmon. I didn't really see excursions that did this, unless I am wrong? Appreciate the information/help!
Budget Queen Posted September 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2013 Check the charts for the salmon runs, overall you are way too early. Are they touring mainland Alaska?
bottom-dragger Posted September 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2013 they aren't in the freshwater streams yet
Rare Coral Posted September 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2013 While they probably won't see salmon running, historically, the week you picked usually has great weather! I love to cruise at the end of May/first of June. Having seen salmon run, I would still choose the first of June to cruise and miss the salmon. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2013 I too like cruising earlier in the year but as others said it's not the time for the salmon run. Keith
Arusha Posted September 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2013 Salmon runs don't start until July. I was in Alaska on a cruise this past May 25 - June 4: no salmon runs.
