Hi! We are considering a vacation with our son and daughter in law and they a baby who will be 9 months old. Any experiences with cruising with a child this young? Are syrollers allowed on board? Funny, we have taken a number of cruises but I can't remember seeing a lot of little ones!

Thanks for any advice.:)

I have been on many cruises with RCI on many itineraries..But my most recent one on ROS to Alaska this past May had an unusual high number of infants ranging in age but approx 8-9 months old most of them seemed to be, including Captain Borsheim's baby...RCI has wonderful nurseries and tot facilities on most of their ships now. We are looking forward to taking our grandchild (17 mos) and his parents of course also ;) to Alaska in 2014....Lucky little one he'll be a D level C&A after this cruise :)

Where did you get this info?

Quite a lot of cruise lines restrict ages of children to at least 12mths old if there are certain numbers of sea days in a row. Some are'nt too specific, and say its on transatlantics and other listed cruises. others say if there are more than 3 days in a row.

The rules are stated in the cruise lines terms and condition, so as said, it's really better to check first.

Strollers are fine, just make sure the stroller is not left in the hallway by the cabin or any other place where someone could stumble and fall.

Also, at 9 months the baby will not be allowed in any of the pools. A child must be potty trained to use the pools. All cruise lines have similar policies and this is NCLs "Guest must be fully toilet trained to enter the pools or hot tubs. Therefore, guests in diapers, pull-ups or swimmers may not use the pools or hot tubs, even if accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

There are no exceptions to this rule because a contaminated pool will have to be drained and then set up again so no one becomes ill. Lots of work for the crew and the other passengers will not be able to use the pool for several hours.

The "pool policy" is always a hot topic. And sometimes people will report you if they see a baby in the pool. Not fun.

The independance has a splash pool for babies in daipers /nappies. There was approx 10 babys in strollers on Indy in August, you get to see the same people walking the laps around the decks....

One that sails from a port you can drive too!

I'm not a parent yet, but DH and I have decided when we do cruise with a little one (hopefully by 2016), that their first cruise will be the Bermuda itinerary out of Boston on NCL. Since we'll have to bring more stuff for an infant, and we're hoping we could get other family members to come, airfare and baggage fees wouldn't be an issue since we live about four hours from Boston.

an umbrella stroller is fine, any of those large behemoths not so much.

since the child is under 12 months old there cannot be 2 consecutive sea days.

too young to use anything but the nursery( if available on board) and that may have limited operating hours. Inquire on board for in cabin babysitting.( can get pricey though)

not allowed in any pool or hot tub and not all ships have a splash zone

Some cruise lines won't book children that young regardless of the number of sea days. As long as there is a nursery, choose the line that works best for the adults. I am a fan of the Disney product, have sailed with them twice and been very satisfied with the quality for the money spent.

As another poster suggested, the family boards might be a better place to ask the question.

We are planning to take our ~10 month old (not yet born, but will be that age at time of sailing!) on NCL for its first cruise, and will be joined by both sets of our parents. We chose this primarily because of the price and departure port, although the general atmosphere of flexibility on NCL I think will be good for the baby. We probably would have done Princess if it had been in our price range as our parents prefer it, but they are happy to go with us on whatever trip we plan. If we sail by ourselves with the baby before it is 3 we will likely look at RCI since many of their ships have nurseries which would allow us an evening or two to ourselves. But our parents will do that for us on this trip :)
