lynn2002 Posted September 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2013 Have only cruised Royal Caribbean in the past and taking my first cruise on Hal on Neuw Amsterdam next year. What format does the HAL Formal Nights' take. For example on Royal Caribbean the first formal night was the Captain's Reception where they would have entertainment and then the ship's staff would be introduced. Also an opportunity to have photographs taken with the captain.
CruiserBruce Posted September 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2013 A little reading on this board would reveal the first formal night takes a similar format. However, haven't seen an opportunity to have pictures with the Captain in a while.
Rare rafinmd Posted September 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2013 Much the same, but instead of the cocktail party there's a toast with champaign in the the theater. The Captain introduces the senior officers there. Roy
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2013 The first formal night is called the "The Captain's Welcome Aboard" toast. Show times are usually 8 and 10 PM. About 15 minutes prior to the show the doors will open to the show lounge. Staff are usually standing there with trays of champagne or wine on some ships. Other ships they come by your seat and give you a glass then. After about 10 minutes the CD introduces the captain who then introduces a few senior staff as well as the employee of the month. Then the Cellar Master opens a huge fake bottle of champagne which throws out confetti into the audience. Then the show begins. It has been many years since any of the captains have had a receiving line for pictures.
