spyro1952 Posted October 21, 2013 #30 Share Posted October 21, 2013 Hmmmmm have not heard of him before, but we are going on the Emerald for the 4th time in just 19 days - Always had great food, service & a fun crew - can't wait!:D I am also on the 11/9 Emerald cruise. I've had nothing but the best on this ship. The last trip was 2010 and did the UST on this cruise. The food and service was excellent. Jose is the maitre'D and I really do prefer him over Generoso. Jose was our MD at the CT experience we did a few years back. Wonderful guy. Just looking forward to 10 days of relaxation in the sun. No tours, no fuss, and some shopping in St. Thomas. :)

Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted October 22, 2013 #35 Share Posted October 22, 2013 Thank you! And, in my post, I meant the OP is in for a treat with the Emerald, not my blog (lest you worry you've given me a big head here. I shouldn't be posting while waiting for the doctor to come in!!). The blog is just a blog; the Emerald is amazing!!

smilz Posted October 24, 2013 #47 Share Posted October 24, 2013 We took a cab to Dickenson bay in Antigua It was a beautiful beach but not one for snorkeling. In the past we have done the Sail snorkel and beach which was very good but we found the time on the beach too short (beautiful though) We have actually done that one a couple of times and are booked but we may go back to Dickenson since it fairly close to the port. We have done the a few variations of Nelson's Dock Yard which was also quite enjoyable. In Barbados we took a cab to Paynes Bay and swam out to where the boats go to interact with the turtles. It's an easy swim in the morning but the jet skis whip up the surf and it gets too rough for my liking so we swim and enjoy the beach in the afternoon. We have been to the caves several times, the botanical gardens and have done the Atlantis submarine. (the best place to do it in our opinion) We are going back to Paynes Bay because we can leave enough time to walk into the city. In St Kitts we took the excursion to Cobblestone Beach. A beautiful ride that you view the Atlantic and the Caribbean at the same time. Nevis is very close and looks great in the photos! We snorkeled there and saw some unusual things and picked up some anemone skeletons they look like puffed up sand dollars with pink stripes. Very delicate though. All but one broke! We have done the rain forest hike and loved it. It can be strenuous. They give you walking sticks to keep your balance while crossing logs across the river. We have also done Brimstone Hill and enjoyed it very much. The walk up to the top is quite steep which was hard with elderly parents with us. This time we are planning to take a cab to South Friars Beach to snorkel because it is close enough to the port to return for shopping. (love their stores!) We are traveling with another couple that we will meet for shopping because they are doing other things. In St Lucia we went on the snorkel boat that did not involve any beach. The snorkeling was fabulous! We have done the all day excursion in some variations to the drive in volcano, botanical gardens Grand Anse, lunch and sail to go swimming a couple of times. Definitely a must if you haven't done it. We have also sailed to the black beach. Also cool but not literally because the sand is HOT!! We also sailed to Pigeon Island on the brig Unicorn but the boat was damaged in a storm and has been retired. Too bad. Loved seeing the pics of Johnny Depp during filming of Pirates of the Caribbean. We are booked on the snorkel boat again but are considering taking a cab to Pigeon Island to snorkel and hike. It is close enough to consider a cab but don't plan on going far by cab because the roads are not well developed and it takes a long time to get from point A to point B. It will also be expensive. BTW we have seen a family with small children left on the dock and our ship was only about 2 football fields out. They cannot return because of immigration (and probably port charges) If a ship excursion is late the ship will wait for you. If you are only doing one ship excursion, this is where you want to do it. In St Thomas we went to St John through the ship. I don't remember the beach we went to but we found the excursion to be unorganized and was disappointed in the beach. We have done a sailboat to Honeymoon beach which we enjoyed, the half day sail to St John to snorkel which we enjoyed and the Champagne sail to St J to snorkel which we loved. Conditions can vary though. When we started cruising about 13 years ago, we took the ship excursion to Megans bay. Since then we have taken a cab there several times, an open air bus several times, been to Coki beach several times, Sapphire beach several times and Emerald beach several times. We have also done the ski ride. This year we are going by cab to snorkel at Sapphire beach and then to Megan's bay because it's been so long since we've been there. Last year the last stop was Princess Cay instead of Nassau which we prefer. In Nassau we have done day passes to Atlantis (great aquarium; did not have access to the water rides. Casino is worth a visit) , a tour of fort and the pirate museum (enjoyable) and have walked to Junkanoo beach which we did not like at all. We have done the snorkel boat excursion there which is reasonably priced and sails right past the Atlantis and paradise island so the sightseeing is good! Not the best snorkeling but ok. The rom is great! :D We have also done an excursion to a close island that you could pearl dive at which we really liked but it has changed names and I don't think they do the pearl diving anymore. This year we are booked on the snorkel boat but we are considering walking or taking a cab to the rum factory. We have also done the horse drawn carriage but didn't think it was worth the money. Have also done all the excursions in FT L which are a nice diversion if you have a late flight and is a guaranteed earlier (not the first) departure from the ship. We have an earlier flight this year because we both have to work the following day. Hope this info is helpful.

2little time Posted October 28, 2013 #50 Share Posted October 28, 2013 What's wrong with it? It is smaller than most suites and has 2 large beams on the balcony that both obstruct the view as well as make it very difficult to move around on the balcony. The balcony is very shallow to begin with and a lounge chair in the sitting position is right up to the railing. While I knew this was an obstructed balcony when we took the room, I did not realize how much of an obstruction the beams would be.
